1dx2 with Sigma 35 Art - Rings showing up in image

Hi all. Has anyone ever seen this? Shooting on a new 1DX2 with my Sigma 35 f1.4 Art. Weird one, have had the lens for a year or more without ever seeing it on a 1DX or 5D3 or 5DS. Only shows up when using an open aperture, maybe anywhere north of f2.5 or so, but it's not consistent. Shows up in live view, on the playback, and on the image forwarded to the iPad. Attaching camera shots of each.

It almost looks electrical, but the edges of the rings aren't perfectly sharp. And it doesn't change with the aperture - same shading, size, shape, etc. It's either there or completely gone. I'm stumped.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Talk [CR1]

HTML:
You can file this one under the “heard it from a Canon rep”, which going by past experience, rarely turns out to be accurate. However, I <a href="http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/cameras/Canon_5d4.html">and others</a> have been told that the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV would be “<span class="s1">32mp with 24mp mode”. What a “24mp mode” would be beyond an MRAW setting is unknown.</span></p>
<p>All we know for sure about the EOS 5D Mark IV at the moment is that it will be announced in August for Photkina and should be in your hands by October of this year.</p>

DPReview reviews the D810... two years after release

I could imagine DPReview were playing some slow jams while they wrote this:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/7058035710/benchmark-performance-nikon-d810-in-depth-review

That album might have been called Exmor: Mi Amor. :P

Choice bits:

"Dynamic range at ISO 64 competes with medium format"

Spot-metering linked to AF point is listed as a 'Pro' when to my knowledge that feature is available across the entire Nikon SLR line. (That's just DPR thumbing their nose at 5DS/5D3 owners, IMHO.)

"You can underexpose your images to protect your highlights as much as you'd like. Leave your graduated ND filters at home or, better yet, sell them while they're still worth something."

Really? >:(

How hard was it for you to sell your old cameras?

With the 1DX Mk2 being out and everyone starting to sell their 1dx's and 5d3's I decided it was time to to sell my 5D Mark 3 with a battery grip as I have two and barely use them now since I upgraded to the 1DX and start saving for the new 1DXMK2 instead and was really curious how hard selling off old gear was for you guys? also after selling it did you have any regrets?

Also I hope it's alright of me to post this in here, I didn't know which category it would fit into :/

A9 Prototype in the wild: 72 MP

I find it spectacularly dubious that a field testing model would have specs badged right on it like this, but here you go:

http://petapixel.com/2016/05/12/man-spotted-72mp-sony-prototype-a9-wild/

So either this is a deliberate leak or (much more likely) a load of crap. A deliberate leak makes much more sense on a strategically targeted date, like on the eve of a 5D4 or D820/D900 announcement.

Also, I'm still putting my chips on an A9 (or other 'pro' rig) to be massive -- huge grip, intergral vertical grip, etc. At this price point and for those users, they're kidding no one with a 'smaller/lighter' rig. Those folks need a stout grip for that heavy fast glass, and an integral grip would do wonders for battery life.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III Coming in June [CR3]

HTML:
<p>We’re told that we can expect to see the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III to be announced in June of 2016, and availability coming fairly quickly, likely by the end of July.</p>
<p>A person who has used the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III says it’s every bit as good as the recent L offerings from Canon and “solves the most glaring weaknesses of the current version.”</p>
<p>We haven’t been told anything about pricing yet, but we hope to hear more about that in the coming weeks.</p>

1DX Mark II buffer?

So I was really excited for the 170 image raw buffer. But my camera only shows 59 shots as the remaining shots with the included Cfast 64gb card. I also tried removing the CF card and still is the same.

Speaking of CF card, I have a Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB UDMA7 card and that only shows 59 shots as well. In the manual it says 59 shots for Standard and 73 for Highspeed/UDMA7.

Is anyone seeing low buffer counts?

1Dx mk2...The end of an era

There is ZERO low light ISO quality difference between the 1Dx and 1Dx mk2. Every review I saw from these people who got this camera early said it had half-1 stop low light ISO improvement. Clearly they were saying what they needed to say to get the camera early or free. So where does Canon go from here. What will the next 1D body have to offer to compel people to buy it. Canon is going to need more than uncompressed 4k HDMI out or 6k internally.....or 18fps. The quality of my light and focus is what makes or breaks a picture and the 1dx 2 failed to give any type of noticeable improvement. You have to take like 200 pictures to notice that the auto focus has gotten better bc it was already so good.

Will Canon be using Sony sensors in their next 1D body to keep people from jumping ship. Sony now has 2-4 years to get a camera between the a7s2 and a7II with high framerates and canon league autofocus. Lets hope it happens or your next upgrade will be like this 1.....a waste of 4 years for anyone who doesnt use the camera for video unless F8 autofocus points was a must have for you.

Honestly....how LITTLE could Canon upgrade the next 1D body to match this 1 in the relm of actual picture quality upgrades...18fps...more auto focus points....what a joke.

I shot this picture this morning with my 1dx and 1dx mk2. 6400 ISO 1/2500 f8 6500WB

if not for the extra 2MP I could just lie to you as to which is which...or just use the same camera and changed the image size on 1 of the pics!!!

<p><strong>First Macro Lens in the Canon EF-M lens series</strong></p>
<p>Photographers looking for a compact, lightweight macro lens should look no further than the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens, the first Canon Macro Lens specifically designed for the EOS M Camera System.</p>
<p>The new lens features a pair of built-in miniature Macro Lite electronic flash units that illuminate close-up subjects as needed, helping to freeze movement, enhance color accuracy and provide a better sense of depth and dimension. Two curved flash units surround the front element of the lens, with the ability to illuminate both simultaneously, or one at a time. Users are also able to adjust the brightness of the Macro Lites between “bright” and “dim” settings.</p>
<p>The standard focusing range of the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens extends from infinity to life-size (1 time). Additionally, a Super Macro Mode allows shooting at even higher magnifications up to 1.2 times. This feature allows you to capture smaller details that really make your subjects stand out against the background.</p>
<p>Additional features of the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Hybrid IS, the same feature as found on Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens, helps reduce camera shake for enjoyable handheld photography.</li>
<li>Stepping motor (lead screw-type STM) helps provide smooth and quiet focusing operation when taking photos, and near-silence when shooting videos.</li>
<li>One UD lens and two aspherical lenses<span class="green">**</span> help deliver outstanding image quality at all distance settings by reducing chromatic and spherical aberrations.</li>
<li>Angle of view similar to a 45mm standard lens (35mm equivalent) provides flexible image capture of various subjects and scenes at macro distances and beyond.</li>
<li>Tapered lens top shape makes it easy to capture high-quality images at close range without casting shadows.</li>
</ul>
<p>The Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT electronic flash unit is scheduled to be available through authorized Canon dealers in June 2016 for an estimated retail price of $579.991. Canon’s EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens is scheduled to be available through authorized Canon dealers in June for an estimated retail price of $299.99</p>

Urgent - canon 1dx mark II. 4k files stutter

Hello
Need some help. Just got the 1dx II. And recorded some 4k clips at 60 fps. To 2 different cfast cards. The sandisk that was provided and a lexar. Play back on multiple pcs and a macbook pro. Even went to the apple store to play on the latest and greatest 5k mac. The video from both cards is terribley stuttery. This is my first time really getting into 4k and i am leaving to go out of the country on friday. Need to figure it out.

Btw also tried downloading vlc to try playback and that didnt help.

Need any help you can provide.
Dustin

OK! I really want to ask my last camera bag question ever.........

There are lots of "what bags should I get" threads here, some of which have been mine. But, because of an injury, I need to change the way I carry my gear and the problem is that I don't often get to places where I can actually look at bags to try myself. So, I try to narrow down my decisions based on reviews and opinions before ordering (and somethimes returning) things.

My dilemma: I will be carrying my 5Diii, 24-70 f/2.8ii, 100-400 mkii, a 430 EXii and a WA (along with cards, batteries, etc.) on a long trip to Ethiopia. I've relied on shoulder bags (love my City Walker) but due to an injury and what this will weigh, will now carry a backpack. I've not decided on whether to bring a tripod. There will be no overnight trekking or long hiking on this trip. I do have access to a Guru Kiboko 22+ which is a great bag but feels too bulky for this load. I am trying to carry "smaller" especially because of some internal flights with restrictions.

My present system is to place my loaded shoulder bag into a carry-on duffle along with paperwork, some layers, toiletires and one a change of clothes and tablet into the duffle which is carry on legal sized and take this along with a rolling carry-onfilled with the remaining clothes to make the 2 items I carry on. Should the gate decide this is too heavy or large (only happened once), I'll always have the ability to not let my camera gear go into the hold of the airplane. I can just take out the camera shoulder bag, pull some items from the roll-aboard, and add them to the now almost empty duffle, carry the duffle and the camera bag as my 2 items and let the roll-aboard get checked.

Depending on the size of any new backpack, I still might put it into the carry on duffle (suspect it will occupy more of the duffle than the shoulder bag) and still have my roll-aboard with clothing and other items and use the same system. So, I don't want a large backpack, just one that can carry my walkaround kit on two straps instead of one and still be easy to travel with. My system to keep camera gear out of the hold would still work.

Right now I am thinking about Flipside 300 (or 200 or 400?) versus TT Streetwalker but have looked at lots of others online.

So, for the (hopefully) last time, given this gear, what would fit and what do you think you'd do? I know about the security benefits of the Flipside but my TT bags are all wonderful.

Basic Flash Question about Shutter Speed AV Mode

Apologies for asking such a basic question for which I should really know the answer but its something I get caught out every so often over.
Usually when I use flash I'm in Manual or Tv.
Every so often I'm not paying attention and I'm in Av Mode.
Frustratingly in low light the camera goes to a very low shutter speed.
The photos look fine until you see them on a PC and you get movement blur

Some real examples recently
24-105mm at 24mm at ISO 400 F4 went to 1/10.
24-105mm at 56mm at ISO 400 F4 went to 1/5
The ISO wasn't fixed but I'm not 100% sure and can't confirm

If I accidently fixed the ISO I can understand the camera has no option but to reduce shutter speed because two elements are fixed.

If I didn't fix the ISO how does a Canon camera decide between ISO and Shutter Speed.
How low does it go on shutter speed and can you preset a lower limit based on the focal length of the camera or a fixed shutter speed.
Does it 50:50 the changes between ISO and Shutter speed or is it biased to changing one more than the other.

Ideally for me I'd like to set the camera so that regardless it doesn't drop below 1/100 shutter speed.
Can I set that as a custom function on the dial ie: C1 , C2, C3?

The camera was a 5DSR (which limits the ISO faster than the 5DIII).

Speedlight modifier for bird portraits suggestions

Will be going to an event where rescued birds and other animals will be posed by handlers. Handlers will give the thumbs up/down to the use of flash for each critter.

The event will be held between 10-1pm local time, probably in open shade or no shade.

What types of speedlight modifiers have you used/recommend for this?

I'm thinking of using something like the Neewer Octagonal Studio Softbox Flash Diffuse
Thx

Damage?

I lent my standard 50mm lens to my son-in-law to try it on his camera. Being used to a zoom he inadvertently twisted the focus ring round beyond the 'stop' point in an attempt to zoom in closer on his subject. The lens doesn't appear to be broken, it works absolutely fine, it focuses ok, but there's not a huge amount of resistance where it should come to a stop when focusing in either direction. I've no idea whether this is normal, I guess the only thing to do would be to take it into the shop, ask them, and compare it with another such lens. Does anyone know whether forcing the focus ring beyond the 'stop' point would actually do any specific harm to the lens, whether there's anything internal aspect that can be damaged by doing this? I twisted it back the other way to re-align the focusing dial to where it should be.

70-200 f2.8 IS ii vs. 100-400 ii for Landscapes

I am torn between the 70-200ii and 100-400ii specifically as they apply to landscapes. I will be shooting mostly handheld @ f5.6 or f8 with some f4 and f11. Currently will be paired with a 6D but will likely upgrade to a 5DSR with in a year. I have a good idea of the pros/cons for these lenses as they apply to other genres of photography but landscape performance is probably the most important to me.

As I see it the biggest difference is the 70mm on the 70-200ii. As a pixelpeeper, is there any noticeable difference in IQ for the shared focal lengths? How does the IQ of the 70-200ii+1.4xiii compare to 300mm on the 100-400? With the 100-400 I think I would still need a 24-70/24-105 in my kit whereas I could pair the 70-200 with a UWA zoom but more likely a 24 prime. Any input is appreciated!
