Canon AE-1Program.

Hi Folks.
I inherited my dads gear,
AE-1Program with power winder A,
Remote release cord with bulb lock,
FD 50mm f1.8,
Canon Speedlite 188A
Hoya 75-260mm f4.5 Macro FD fit.
Camera works but I think it has the shutter squeak, been so long since I saw it used I'm not sure. Don't know if the power winder works, I haven't put a film in it, the 50mm might have a problem with the diaphragm, the flash doesn't seem to work at least not with my rechargeable batteries, Hoya lens appears to be converted from Pentax S fit and appears to work in manual only.
The glass is all clean and fungus free.

Does anyone want to make use of this kit. I don't want to split it up and sell it to make a small amount of money, I don't really have the inclination, it was my dads after all. If you do all well and good but I'd prefer to think you might be going to use it.
If you are interested pm me and I'll try to arrange getting it to you if you are in the central south of England I may be able to arrange delivery as I'm over there a couple of times in the near future. If you are further afield I will post for cost.
I'm giving this away FREE you pay the postage.
If I'm breaking list rules I'll gladly remove this post.

Cheers, Graham.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Replacement Talk [CR1]

HTML:
Over the last 48 hours, we’ve seen and heard a lot of talk about the EOS 5D Mark III replacement. Nothing I’ve seen has come from a known source, but I’ll pass it along anyway.</p>
<p>These are direct quotes of what we’ve been told or seen.</p>
<blockquote><p>“Next 5D will be announced around NAB and will be called 5D X. 4k is certain, moderate pixel count and <span class="il">new</span> AF system based on 1D X II. No separate video-orientated version.”</p>
<p>“We have been told Canon upcoming Canon 5D series camera will have Canon <em>Log</em> and Wide DR gamut. [<a href="http://thenewcamera.com/canon-5d-mark-iv-coming-with-4k-and-dualpixel-cmos-af-sensor/" target="_blank">source</a>]”</p>
<p>“The next full frame body from Canon will also move to CFast, along with an SD card slot. Which I assume is for 4K video.”</p>
<p>“The follow-up to the EOS 5D Mark III is already in testing with a select group of photographers and is basically ready for production beyond obvious software tweaks.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Everything above is rated as [CR1] and comes from different places, please treat the information accordingly.</p>

Tilt Shift Lens questions

I am thinking of buying a tilt shift lens; probably the TS-E 24mm F3.5L II. Although most user reviews on B&H are very positive, there are a few that mention problems with fringing, cheap locking knobs that jam, and easy access for dust. I'd appreciate receiving any comments on these potential issues, or any other issues, from owners of this lens. Also, is it easy to focus manually through the viewfinder (5DIII) or is it necessary to use live view with magnification. Finally, what percentage of the available shift and tilt ranges can you use before image degradation becomes apparent. I anticipate using the lens for photographing buildings and would try it for landscapes. How does it compare to a 24mm prime for landscapes (I have the Sigma 24mm F1.4DG HSM (Art))? What do you primarily use the lens for? I'm open to suggestions on the other available Canon tilt shift lenses, but am assuming the 24mm is the one to get for my anticipated uses.

Thanks.

B&H Once again sued for discrimination

B&H is once again being sued for discriminating against its employees (this time it's for discriminating against its Hispanic employees). http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/27/nyregion/bh-electronics-store-sued-for-discrimination-of-hispanic-workers.html.

Like most pro and amateur photographers I know, I've been a loyal customer for years. But perhaps it's time we stop giving our money to companies with questionable morals and illegal conduct.

Coming price increases in Canada for Canon, Nikon and others

As posted in Henry's newsletter.....

February 26, 2016

There are many great things about being Canadian, but the ups and downs of the Canadian dollar is not one of them. As you are aware, the value of our dollar has been in sharp decline over the last six months. Some economists have predicted that the dollar may go as low as $0.59 against the US dollar before we start to see a recovery. As a direct result, key camera and camera accessory manufacturers have notified us that after delaying as long as possible, they have been forced to schedule price increases over the next few months to cover increased costs associated with importing goods. Neither our manufacturers nor the retailers are profiting from the depressed Canadian dollar.
Canadian Dollar

The sharp decline in the value of the Canadian dollar will impact prices for all Canadian retailers.

With that in mind, we would like to advise our customers that on April 1, 2016, price increases due to currency value will be in effect from most of our major camera partners, including Nikon, Canon, Sony and Panasonic. They will apply to a majority of goods from these brands. Price increases are expected to range from 10-30%, possibly even higher. These increases will be reflected across ALL Canadian retail outlets selling photographic equipment, not Henry's alone. We feel that it's important to keep you up-to-date on industry developments and help you make the most informed purchase decisions possible. And, as always, you can shop with us with confidence because our Price Match Policy means that we will match any lower advertised price from any other Authorized Canadian Retailer.

We'd like to share the good news for 2016 too. It's a very exciting time to be a photographer. Technological advancements have been made in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality, the capability of drones, 360-degree panoramic cameras and even 3D printing. The latest in these products will be coming your way over the course of this year. Thank you for your continued support of Henry's and for sharing your love of photography with us. We hope we can continue to be your photography partner for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Gillian Stein

No more announcements for 2016?

The Canon website says new arrivals winter 2016. What a strange way to describe the latest announcement when it's not even spring. Is Canon implying with the phrase Winter 2016 that any new camera announcements made this year will not be available till next year?

I still think Canon 6D Mark ii will be announced in September 2016 since has been four years since it came out in September 2012.

There Will be a 4K 5D Camera [CR2]

HTML:
<p>A good source is quite sure that <em>“there will be a 5D camera that shoots 4K video”</em>. The specifications of the video features are unknown, along with any other specifications for the camera.</p>
<p>The source was quite sure that an announcement for the next 5D will not come before the EOS-1D X Mark II begins shipping, which we’re told will definitely happen in April. There won’t be an overlap like there was with the EOS-1D X and EOS 5D Mark III roll out.</p>
<p>More to come…</p>

Patent: Moving the Sensor to Improve Contrast AF

<p>Canon has filed a patent that shows the sensor moving to improve contrast AF, as you can see in the image above from Northlight Images, the sensor moves back and forth.</p>

What extender for Canon 500mm F4 IS L II ?

Hello everyone!

I wonder if someone can help me in this decision.

I am going to to buy the Canon 500mm F4 IS L II and also a teleconverter to be able to improve my focal distance.

I´m a wildlife photograhper so distance is always a big thing. The perfect lens probably would be a 600mmm, or a 800mm, but I have not the budget for thems. I do have for the 500mm

I had the previous 500mm (version 1) and just loved the lens. But sometimes do feel short. I had also a 2x teleconverter from kenko but never convinced me so it was really rare to use.

My doubt here is what to buy, the 1,4x III teleconverter or the 2x III teleconverter

- 1.4X is better in quality, as i seen in posts doesn´t loose so much detail in photos as the 2x does. But does it really justifies having "only" a 1.4x? It gives you an importan gain in distance?

- 2x really gives you a significant improve in distance, you get a 1000mm and in 7D markII give´s me about 1600mm witch is insane! However i am really worried about posts that saying you loose a lot of detail. Just dont want that...

I now, i now, there are not perfect solutions, but that concerns me...So i was looking for some advice of someone that really have the field experience with these combos. With the 500 F4 II or another telephoto lens II (400mm or 600mm.

I am going to the north pole in June, and there especially the polar bears can be quite in a distance, so the 2x is the preference...but if it takes a lot quality in image can be better to have a 1.4 and make a small crop?

I think its important to refer that i dont care with internet quality, i DO care about print quality

Hope you can help me on this one, i am really confused... :)
Thank very much!

Portrait lenses: Canon vs. Pentax 645d/z?

Hello guys! For those of you who use Pentax 645d or 645z along with your Canon to shoot outdoor portraits, what do you think about the image/bokeh quality produced by lenses for 645 system? I got some idea from the article by CR member Chris Giles (wockawocka) http://chrisgilesphotography.com/blog/pentax-645z-review-pt3-ccd-vs-cmos/ but I want to hear some other opinions as well, especially in relative comparison to Canon 85 f1.2, 135 f2 and 200 f2.0. Thank to you all.

Sigma on a Roll (new cameras)

Sigma has announced two new cameras and a new flash.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/news/unveiled-sigma-sd-quattro-mirrorless-cameras-and-ef-630-flash?utm_medium=Email%201607195&utm_campaign=NewAnnouncement&utm_source=MultiBrands%20160223&utm_content=Explora&utm_term=sigma-sd-quattro-and-quattro-h-article

The SD Quattro cameras with apps-c and - H foveon sensors are for still photography and have some interesting ergonomics. The new flash will have a Canon compatible version.

The Next DSLR from Canon Will Be...

HTML:
<p>…. we don’t know.</p>
<p>We knew well in advance that the EOS-1D X Mark II was coming, and knew after that announcement that we’d get the EOS 80D. What’s coming next is currently unknown. Which tells us, there is nothing on the immediate horizon.</p>
<p>The next big show will be NAB 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada starting on April 16, and we expect a few Cinema EOS announcements, but not a DSLR announcement.</p>
<p>We know that the replacement for the EOS 5D Mark III is likely the most highly anticipated Canon imaging product. We don’t think Photokina in September is when the camera will be announced either. We think that show will be used by Canon to show off their new EOS M line of products and perhaps the EOS 6D Mark II. We also don’t think that the EOS 6D Mark II will be announced before an EOS 5D Mark III replacement.</p>
<p>This leaves us with part of April, May and June for an announcement. Nothing ever happens in July and August as far as major product announcements. We are hearing nothing concrete about any other DSLR outside of what has been recently announced.</p>
<p>Going back to NAB, if they do decide to announce a DSLR for that show, it has to shoot 4K video or the poor folks at the Canon booth will be in for a very long week.</p>
<p>I wish I had something of value to post, but I figured I’d address the many questions I receive in a post.</p>

1DX Mk II Australian Price

Hi all :)

Im a bit irritated watching the Aus price of the 1DX mk II. Teds had it for A$9000 but has now changed it to A$9500 because you get a 'bonus' CFast card and reader for 'Free'... Digidirect is still to announce prices but other shops looks to be A$9500 too...

Whats irritating is the Nikon D5 is A$9000 which is cheaper than the Canon even though the Canon is US$500 cheaper?!?!

Anyone know why we are getting ripped so bad?

Sigma Announces Two New Mirrorless Cameras: Sigma sd Quattro and sd Quattro H

HTML:
<em>Interchangeable lens APS-C and APS-H Foveon Quattro sensors in state-of-the-art camera systems</em></p>
<p><strong>KANAGAWA, JAPAN — February 23, 2016 — </strong><a href="http://sigma.cmail20.com/t/r-l-vuduthk-dkikkkllld-e/" target="article-null"><strong>Sigma Corporation of America</strong></a>, a leading camera, DSLR lens, flash and accessories manufacturer, today announced the new high-performance, compact <a href="http://sigma.cmail20.com/t/r-l-vuduthk-dkikkkllld-s/" target="article-null"><strong>Sigma sd Quattro</strong></a> and <a href="http://sigma.cmail20.com/t/r-l-vuduthk-dkikkkllld-g/" target="article-null"><strong>Sigma sd Quattro H</strong></a> mirrorless camera systems with Foveon Quattro sensors. The Sigma sd Quattro features an APS-C sized sensor and the Sigma sd Quattro H touting a larger APS-H sized sensor for even greater image quality. Thanks to the mirrorless aspect of the cameras, both the sd Quattro and sd Quattro H are designed to take full advantage of all Sigma Global Vision lenses.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p><em>“With the introduction of these two new cameras, Sigma continues its rich history of innovation. The Foveon sensor is renowned for its imaging characteristics, and the mirrorless interchangeable format offers photographers the full line of Sigma Global Vision lenses to help realize their creative visions,”</em>stated Mark Amir-Hamzeh, President of Sigma Corporation of America. <em>“The sharpness of detail and nuanced color tone captured by the Foveon sensors is a key component of Sigma Global Vision. The sd Quattro, and the sd Quattro H, with the newly announced Foveon Quattro APS-H sensor, will be greatly appreciated by photographers who demand the utmost in imaging purity, with the added benefit of portability for both in-studio and on-location photography.”</em></p>
<p>Both the sd Quattro and sd Quattro H feature similar design aspects with a compact form consistent with the dp Quattro line, making them highly portable and utilizing the Foveon Quattro sensor for exceptional imaging quality and fast processing. A magnesium alloy body makes the sd Quattro and sd Quattro H durable and rugged, while a dust- and splash-proof design makes it ideal for photographers facing harsh conditions. In addition to the new body design, both cameras boast a list of useful advancements. These include a two-mode Autofocus detection that combines Phase Detection for focus speed and Contrast Detection for focus accuracy. The focus settings have also been enhanced with such modes as Movement Prediction, Face Detection, Free Movement, Focus Peaking and a variety of others. The new 2.3 megapixel viewfinder displays close to 100% of the field of view and when placed in “Auto” will toggle between the viewfinder when the user has the camera to their eye and then to the LCD when the user lowers the camera. A new “Super-Fine Detail” mode brings out the full potential of the Quattro sensor by capturing seven different exposures with one shot and merging them for exceptional dynamic range (images can be extracted individually as well). Meanwhile an updated algorithm for the Auto White Balance allows for greater accuracy, even with multiple light sources.</p>
<p>While the sd Quattro and sd Quattro H are similar in physical design details, they stand apart when their Foveon sensors are compared. The sd Quattro utilizes the same sensor found in the dp Quattro line and produces image quality comparable to that of a 39 megapixel Bayer-pattern sensor on resolution testing. The stacked silicon Foveon Direct Imaging sensor captures all detail information on the top 19.6 megapixel layer along with all color information for the Blue channel, while the two five-megapixel layers below capture Red and Green color information, all without the need for a low pass filter. Merged together they create incredible image quality that is comparable to medium format files. The sd Quattro H boasts a larger APS-H sensor (26.6×17.9mm) than the sd Quattro and can produce images equivalent to that of a 51-megapixel Bayer-pattern sensor camera on resolution testing. The sensor structure is similar to that of the sd Quattro but uses a 25.5 megapixels on the top layer of the sensor that captures the detail information. Both cameras use the latest Dual TRUE III image processor and take full advantage of the Art, Contemporary and Sport line Global Vision lenses that are made for high megapixel cameras. Like all Sigma Cameras, RAW (X3F) data can processed via <a href="http://sigma.cmail20.com/t/r-l-vuduthk-dkikkkllld-w/" target="article-null"><strong>Sigma Photo Pro</strong></a>, which offers editing options, including Monochrome mode to take advantage of the incredible monochrome images the Foveon sensor captures.</p>
