LucrOit 165mm Pro L Filter Kit and Adapter for Canon 11-24mm Adapter 233

There's been lots of chatter about Fotodiox developing a 186mm filter for the Canon 11-24mm lens. I ran across a filter system from Lucroit that's already out there!
Out there, but not in the US as of now as far as adapter number 233 is concerned.
I have screen shots of the vignette issues of this filter system. There is vignetting with 11, and 12mm, but it's clear on 13mm. What I've been told is that vignetting disappears on 11, and 12mm when using the LR vignette selection.
Would the Fotodiox or, Lucroit system be better than the Lee filter system?
Does anyone have any thoughts?

I have contacted B & H to see if they're willing to bring in the new adapter for the 11-24mm lens.
I've also contacted Adorama. Once I hear from them I'll post their answer onto this post.

Pro-100 and ink use

I print a lot of proofs at home on a Pro-100 ... I notice some ink levels drop or empty faster than others. In particular the Lt Gray, and maybe the Gray tanks indicate empty much quicker than others.

In fact, the other day I installed new ink tanks and printed only four photos and the Lt Gray was empty. I contacted Adorama and it sent a replacement ... but it still empties quicker.

For any that have this setup, is it normal to have these two tanks empty so quickly under normal printing conditions? I'm wondering if one of the print settings might account for this ... although I don't see any way to control it anywhere.

I bought extra Gray and Black to counter this, but it makes little sense to continuously buy extra. Seems Canon would address this with two Lt Gray tanks in the ink bank if it is common in color printing.

Canon 1DX II Underwater housing

Hi All :)

If the current rumours are correct the body will be the same size just 4mm taller on the top - im just wondering would the 1DX II still fit in current underwater housing or would it require a new mould? Im asking as I want to upgrade to 1DX II but there are some great second hand deals on underwater housing for 1DX now and wonder if they will fit it. Im looking at Aquatech so if anyone owns one and has a chance to see how much internal space there would be I would greatly appreciate it :)

cheers

Second Mitros+ or 600 ex-rt?

Looking at picking up a second flash potentially. I have a Mitros+ with Odin Transmitter already that works perfectly for semi-pro needs, but have a wedding shoot coming up so want additional lighting.

Options include
- get second mitros+ for $250. They are on amazon right now and a steal at that price.
- Get pro system 600 ex-rt with odin receiver. Better build, better zoom range, more powerful, but almost $300 more.

If only the 600 ex-rt worked out of the box with odin transmitter... Then it would be a no brainer.

AF Wishes - The future :)

What are your wishes for AF from Canon in the future? I am thinking of mainly lower end cameras, 80D, 6D mark II etc., those cameras without a million AF points. My dSLR has 9 AF points, one x-type. Not revolutionary! The non-cross type points are not very good, and I want them to be x-type and be better placed in the viewfinder, bigger spread, not necessary more point. If the camera cant track, then there is no need to keep the AF-points crammed together. Also, better accuracy with large aperture lenses. My wife got a mirrorless which is way way more accurate than my dSLR. And last but not least, Eye-AF. Probably a LiveView only (or mirrorless), but I want this feature non the less. Awesome to have automatic focus on nearest eye with my beloved Sigma 35mm ART.

What is your wishes for AF?

Canon 1DX MK II in the sky :)

"Yu Wei chanced upon a set of ladders while on a photowalk with his friends in Chinatown, and thought the view above would make an interesting perspective. Little did he expect to catch the NEW CANON 1DX MK II in mid air. We’ll try looking up too"

1DX II -- what are you most excited about?

Just curious, as the 1DX II spec list doesn't exactly scream 'new hotness' nearly so much 'steady progress', what are you most excited about with this new rig?

  • Full spread of AF points available with 2x teleconvertered f/4 lenses or 1.4x teleconvertered f/5.6 lenses?
  • The +2 MP?
  • The +2 fps?
  • The potential of more DR?
  • Better performance in low light? (Spec limits be damned, we won't know until we shoot it)
  • Red servo AF indicators?
  • Movie AF, 4K, touchscreen for video, etc?

I'm just curious for those who are already preparing to pre-order -- what sealed the deal for you?

100-400mm ii - Question on loudness of IS

Hi!

We bought an Canon 100-400 version II and I have an question of the loudness of the IS:
Wenn I start the autofocus, the IS makes an strange and loud sound when it begins to work, also when it stops. The sound is like when you close the aperture of your lens if you want to check the sharpness when you shoot macro. The sound is 3 to 4 times louder. Is this normal?
The IS works. It is just this loud sound.
My husband is on studies in Asia, so I can not ask him.

Thank you
Daniela

Dust on new Lee Filters

Hi Guy's

Treated myself to a new sets of Lee Hard Neutral Graduated Filters, they arrived safely and were nicely packed in box, triple filter pouch and tissue paper, but were covered in dust. This is the second time I've had this, and it isn't a major problem, but it would be nice to have a pristine set of filters when new. I'm sure the filters I purchased back in the naughties were spotless, is dust to be expected when purchasing Lee products these days ?

Some Conflicting EOS-1D X Mark II Specifications [CR2]

HTML:
The following information comes from a very well known source, who has been correct about 80% of the time. The resolution information about the upcoming EOS-1D X Mark II contradicts what we were previously told.</p>
<p>Specifications (Italics are a direct quote):</p>
<ul>
<li>20.2mp sensor (We messed up and screwed up a translation and reported 22mp, instead of 20.2mp.)</li>
<li><em>“Some sort of a built in AA filter removal function. User can choose to have AA on or off, not too sure how that works.”</em></li>
<li>Improved dynamic range, but still won’t match the Sony sensors.</li>
<li><em>“Specifications may not be perceived as exciting as the Nikon D5.”</em></li>
</ul>
<p>Leaks for this camera have been extremely hard to come by.</p>

FF Bodies Using EF-s Lenses in Crop Sensor Mode?

Just a curious stills shooter jonesing for a 5D-IV body...
Not an engineer... seems to me that the image circle of the EF-s family are designed for APS-c sensors & some FF bodies can select "Cropped" mode, therefore selecting in middle of the sensor.
Since the physical mount is the same, meaning that the distance to the sensor is the same, and not seeing rear elements deeper than the mount (no mirror crash?) -- why not use a EF-s on a FF? :o

Help pls. 600EX-Rt RT with Manual master & Manual slave

As I understand this, the only way I can avoid pre-flash that is scaring the dickens out of my little birds before they are captured, I need to use manual, M. I've previously tried to shut off pre-flash without success and believe it's necessary for ETTL to function, so I don't want to use ETTL.

The 2 flashes are being used for fill at reduced power and 20mm setting. They are out of reach once I'm set up. I'm using the 6D to control the master/slave via a hot shoe cable. The problem is that while I can configure the master for M and RT with the master as A (and slave as B), I can't make the slave operate in M, the mode button is inoperative.

My goal is simply to not have pre-flash and to remotely balance the two fill flashes from my camera. 6D set to M. Help please.

Landscape shooting - Used 5DMII or Used 6D or New 7DMII

Hi,

I've got a Canon 7D that I've been using for a few years now and it's a great camera, but I would like to make the move to a full frame setup. Also the the 7D is experiencing intermittent problems, with "Error 30" (shutter sticking) appearing from time to time.

I do a lot of landscape photography, some action (kids/wildlife/birds). Now that the 6D has been around for awhile the used prices in my area are around the same as for the older 5D Mark II. But with either option I would also need to buy lenses as mine are EF-S.

For the price of a used 5DMII/6D + a lens, I could buy a new 7DMII and just use the lenses I already have (Canon EF-S 15-85mmm, 10-22mm). I would like to go full frame, but I've been getting along with aps-c so far even for my landscape photos, and the newer 7DMII is tempting.

Any thoughts on the best option?

7D MKII and EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Autofocus

Hi I wanted to open a thread to discuss this. I have a few issues with the AF performance of above equipment (as I also had when I got my 5D MK3 too), so please bear with me.
The 5D and Lens went to Canon to be calibrated and checked out and were found to be OK.

I have done AMFA calibartion of the above combination and at 100mm needed to go to -5, 400mm seemed to be correct.

I'll try to add a few separate posts showing the issues.
Cheers Brian

Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 VC Focus Retest

Hello, everyone. Many of you saw my reviews here on CR of the new Canon 35mm f/1.4L II or the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG ART. In those reviews I did a comparison between several different contenders in a variety of areas, including autofocus. I noted in that comparison that I didn't feel that the copy of the Tamron 45 VC that I had was performing up to the spec of my review copy of that lens when it came to focus. I sent it to Tamron, who concurred and sent me a replacement copy (this is my own personal copy). I redid the test after doing a thorough AFMA, and this brief video has my findings along with a variety of fresh images from the lens:

Canon Sales Going Pretty Well in Japan

HTML:
The BCN Japan 2016 award winners have been announced in various segments of the digital imaging world. Canon continues to show strong sales in point & shoot and DSLR camera sales. The surprising finish for Canon in Japan is third place in mirrorless sales.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/TS560x560.png" rel="attachment wp-att-24439"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-24439" src="http://www.canonrumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/TS560x560.png" alt="TS560x560" width="560" height="501" /></a></p>
<p>Keep in mind Japan may not represent the rest of the world, especially when it comes to mirrorless. That is the one marketplace where mirrorless cameras have had the most acceptance.</p>
<p>We suspect point and shoot and DSLR sales would favour Canon on most of the planet.</p>
<p><em>Thanks Richard</em></p>
