Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation to be Established

HTML:
<em>Reinforcing Devices Segment</em></p>
<p>Sony Corporation has been implementing a series of measures to reinforce its Devices segment, a key growth driver for the Sony Group. As part of these measures, Sony will adopt a new operational structure for its Devices segment. The aim of this new structure is to enable each of the three main businesses within this segment, namely the semiconductor, battery and storage media businesses, to more rapidly adapt to their respective changing market environments and generate sustained growth. The Devices segment will continue to be overseen by Tomoyuki Suzuki, Executive Deputy President and Corporate Executive Officer, Sony Corporation.</p>
<p><!--more-->

In the semiconductor business, where image sensors are a primary area of focus, Sony will establish Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (“Sony Semiconductor Solutions”) to further reinforce this business, and concentrate on sustained growth. R&D, business control, sales and other operations related to the semiconductor business, which are currently overseen by business groups and R&D units within Sony Corporation, will be transferred to Sony Semiconductor Solutions. The new company will aim to commence operations on April 1, 2016. As part of its mid-term corporate strategy announced in February 2015, Sony outlined its intention to sequentially split out the business units currently within Sony Corporation and operate them alongside existing Sony Group companies. The aim of these measures is to ensure clearly attributable accountability and responsibility from the perspective of shareholders, management policies with an emphasis on sustainable profit generation, and the acceleration of decision-making processes and reinforcement of business competitiveness. The decision to establish Sony Semiconductor Solutions forms part of this strategy.</p>
<p>Terushi Shimizu, currently Deputy President, Device Solutions Business Group, Sony Corporation, is expected to be appointed President, Sony Semiconductor Solutions. Sony Semiconductor Corporation (President: Yasuhiro Ueda) and Sony LSI Design Inc. (President: Makoto Ishii), which cover Sony’s semiconductor manufacturing and design operations respectively, will become subsidiaries of Sony Semiconductor Solutions.</p>
<p>In the battery business, Sony Energy Devices Corporation (President: YoS___o Ezure) will continue to engage in integrated business and manufacturing operations. It will remain focused on reinforcing business operations and enhancing product competitiveness, in order to maximize opportunities for expansion in the growing battery market, and enhance its ability to generate profit.</p>
<p>In the storage media business, business functions currently located within Sony Corporation will be transferred to Sony Storage Media and Devices Corporation (President: Mitsunobu Saito), which currently engages in manufacturing. By integrating these business functions and manufacturing operations, the Company aims to ensure continued, stable profit generation. Sony also targets April 2016 for the completion of this transfer.</p>

Please, advice asked.

Dear all. I've got eight images left from my last holiday. I've processed a lot and now I'm fed up with it;) I can't decide which one to keep. I only want to keep .... real keepers. But I stared that long at them, that I can't make my mind up. Is there one of these images which one you would keep or are all of them ready for the bin? Thank you for reading my question.

manual focus lenses and accurate eye sight

This is the question for people who have experience with manual focus lenses. i have an opportunity to acquire Zeiss 135 f2 for a decent price but hesitate because of MF. I do not really trust my own eyes when it comes to manual focusing and doing 3 things at the same time (holding camera, holding the focus button, and focusing) might not be so easy. i do not use tripod very often and mainly shoot my kids in action, portraits, weddings and some sports. i really like the focal length and the aperture and also own the Canon version. Any advice would be appriciated

A good price for a 70D?

At work someone is selling the following for $900 (US)

"Canon 70D; Sigma 18-250 f3.5-6.3; Canon 24mm f2.8 STM;Shutter release cable; Shutter release remote (wireless); Low shutter count"

Would keep the 24 but don't need the Sigma so would probably trade it in for a credit at a local camera store.

Currently have a T2i and was thinking it might be a worth the investment for an upgrade but wanted to see what people thought here.

More of a hobbyist so take photos of landscape, my son, anything else when I have my camera. At times need a better quality at a higher ISO.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II to Shoot 4K Video [CR2]

HTML:
We’re told that the upcoming Canon EOS-1D X Mark II (if that’s the name) will indeed shoot 4K video, which sounds like good news. However, we’re told not to expect a very video orientated product, as the camera’s primary focus will be on the still photographer. We’re also told that this will be the only next generation DSLR in the lineup that will shoot 4K video at launch.</p>
<p>There will likely be another EF mount product some time in the next 18 months that will shoot 4K, but it won’t be a DSLR.</p>
<p>Not much else is being said about the next iteration of Canon’s flagship DSLR.</p>

Sony sensors are now their own business

News -- Sony is moving sensors into its own business (or business unit):

http://petapixel.com/2015/10/06/sony-to-spin-off-its-image-sensor-business-as-a-new-company/

I presume this gives that arm of the business more clout to drive its own R&D investments, IP, capital, etc. as a sensor business instead of as a smaller part of an imaging business.

But one has to wonder if their imaging (camera) business might suffer from this. Perhaps -- and I'm completely riffing here -- a standalone sensor business will more aggressively try to license their tech as widely as possible.

We've been waiting for CaNikon to dive into FF mirrorless, and though Nikon has been licensing Sony sensors, no Nikon FF mirrorless offering has arrived. There are many possible reasons for this, but one might be that Sony has contractually limited the use of those a7 sensors to Nikon DSLRs to protect their near monopoly on FF mirrorless.

So it's a bit of a wild tangent, but might a standalone Sony sensor company just try to boost its numbers and allow Nikon (or Canon) to license their tech in more places?

Canon 7D mark II compatibility with Tamron SP AF Tele-Converter 140F-CA 1.4X

Hi, is anyone having problems using the Tamron 1.4X tele-converter with the Mark II, it worked fine with my 7D but now it locks up the camera gives and error message and when you turn the camera off it says that it is downloading. Only way to unlock the camera is to unload the battery. It happens with the 24-105 and with the 70-300mm L lenses. Appreciate any thoughts!

Silverfleet Capital to Buy Hasselblad?

HTML:
We’ve heard in the past that various companies had taken a look at Hasselblad’s books with interest in purchasing the struggling Swedish camera and lens manufacturer. We know for certain that Canon had done so a few years ago.</p>
<p>New reports suggest that Hasselblad, which has been in serious financial trouble for quite some time now is out of cash. It’s rumored that Silverfleet Capital, who owns Phase One, may be interested in purchasing the company.</p>

Quick 85mm question

Hey! I have a quick question about the Canon 85 mm 1.8 and 1.2. I used to own the 1.2L and used it for everything, rarely took it off, but I made the mistake of selling it. I am now considering saving up for it, but as it's so expensive I am also considering the 1.8. When I had the 1.2L I used it at F1.2 80% of the time, so will I miss having F1.2? How big of a difference is there between F1.2 and F1.8? Anyone ever owned both?

7D2 + 100-400 II + 1.4 III MFA

I seem to need a lot of MFA with this combo. Before I proceed the 100 and 140mm adjustments are around +3 for both TC on and off. Without the TC I'm at about +4 @400. When I add the TC I need +14 @560.

I came across this article and the author states that TC's are tuned for long primes. Canon does say that the 100-400 is compatible with the TC.

http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2009/01/teleconverters-101

I don't shoot a lot with my 300L F4 IS anymore but I tried it. No TC = +4. With TC = +5

It is not a problem but I'm just curious what would cause that on a telephoto zoom. There are a few more people out there saying they need these high numbers. +12 was the other highest.

Thanks in advance.

Zeiss Otus 55 ZF.2 mod to ZE?

The Otus 55 is offered for a good price second hand in my country and I'm tempting to purchase it. However, it has the Nikon mount and I shoot Canon ::)

Novoflex has an adapter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grB9ET2D2jk), but as far as I can see, the lever on the adapter is then the only possible way to adjust aperture + viewfinder gets dark(er) + no exif-info in raw files on aperture and lens used.

Would it be possible to ship the lens to Zeiss to have it modified to a ZE mount? Are there people here who have experience with this type of modification? :)

The Girl and The Moon

I was biking home slowly (still with camera in my left hand) after shooting deer in the local park and happened to pass by this bench just after sunset where a girl was watching the Supermoon. I stopped the bike to find the right composition and shot 7 shots fairly rapidly. Luck would have that the 300mm was wide enough to get the full bench in the picture.

Both shot handheld at 1/320sec, 300mm, f/2.8, ISO400, with a 5D3.

Pocketwizard Plus III issue with 1DX

I'm having an issue firing my Pocketwizard Plus III with the 1DX and am trying to figure out how to solve it.

I'll have 2-3 lights hooked up to Plus III triggers plus one trigger in the 1DX hotshoe, but 99% of the time the lights won't fire. If I hit test on the trigger while in the 1DX hotshoe all lights will fire, but when I hit the shutter it's not firing. The only solution is to turn off the Pocketwizard and turn it back on, after which I'll get about 2-3 frames where lights fire until it stops again.

I've tried changing batteries, units, etc., but no difference. This problem doesn't happen when I'm shooting with the same Pocketwizards using a 5D3. All firmware is up to date.

400 2.8 -- Mk1 or 2

I'm in the market to purchase a 400 2.8 and I'm looking for some opinions from people who have used both the Mk1 and Mk2 versions. I've used both but can't decide.

The weight isn't an issue for me. The only real draw to the Mk2 for me is IS mode 3 for sports. While I didn't like the results when using it during the day, I noticed it made a difference at night. For those shooting football with the Mk2, are you shooting with IS on or off?

I'm currently using a 300 2.8 IS Mk1 for field sports which I'll be selling to finance the 400.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Should Canon make 2 or 3 versions of the 5D

Should Canon make 2 or 3 versions of the 5D series camera

1. High megapixel camera - I count the 5Ds and 5Ds R as one version with a minor difference.

2. Update to the beloved 5D M3. 25-30 MP, reasonable ISO range, ...

3. (NEW) Low resolution (12-16 MP?), high ISO camera. Perhaps there would be limited demand for this camera but it would fill a niche (just like the 2M ISO video camera does).

Thoughts?
