Despite the fact I haven't really done this before, I've been asked to do some shots to appear in promo material for a food truck (hamburgers and such).

I'm expecting the setting to be a picnic table in natural light. I'm thinking of using the 50L for relatively natural perspective and a polarizer to bring out the colour and cut glare. Will I need extension tubes, and if so, how long? There is a chance the photos could be blown up quite large, so I want to avoid cropping if possible.

Also, should I augment the natural light with flash?

I'm thinking of sending my G1X to LifePixel for conversion to IR; either Standard or Enhanced. I'd appreciate comments from anyone who has had this done giving details of their experience with LifePixel and how well the camera works with the conversion (i.e., focus accuracy across the zoom range and hotspots). Also, any recommendations on which of the two conversion options to pick would be helpful.

Hello all, I am looking for a faster replacement for my 24-105. I will be able to finance it through selling that lens. And about 250$ extra dollars (maybe a bit more). I was thinking about the 28-70 canon. What are your thoughts? I would use this lens for event shooting and some landscape.

There’s a thread on the FredMiranda.com forum that says a few users have experienced lockups of their 7D Mark II after upgrading to firmware 1.04.</p>

<p>One of our forum moderators recommends the following procedure after updating firmware. It can solve some issues, but not all.</p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">My recommendation with any new firmware is to recordthe camera settings, and after installing the firmware,  do a camera reset, remove the battery for a few minutes, then restart the camera and restore the settings.  That will eliminate some issues, but not if there is actually a firmware issue.</span></p>

Hi,
FYI, there is a new firmware available for the Tamron 150-600mm. According to the engineer, the new firmware improve AF speed and IS during panning. I update mine last week and from my initial impression, the AF seem to be faster and more consistence on my 7D2. Seldom do panning, so didn't notice any difference.

Hello folks, I am looking into getting a newer camera for myself and my wife for general photography / pictures of our son. Usage will be indoor and outdoor, but more focused on taking pictures of people than landscapes.

The only SLR we have experience with is our Nikon D40, for which we have the 18-55mm kit lens and a 35mm f/1.8 prime. We plan to move to Canon due to the better lens lineup and pricing, which brings me to my question.

A 7D Mark II will be our first Canon camera, so we have no Canon mount lenses. We're primarily focused on EF lenses as we may move up to a FF in a few years and would prefer to stick with weather sealed lenses, which I believe means we would be restricted to the L lineup.

So if you were buying your first lens, not expecting to buy another for at least a few months, would you go for a 16-35mm f/4 IS or 24-70mm f/4 IS?

Since I picked up the new 100-400 II, my beloved 70-200 II has been sitting unused. I tend to shoot a lot at the mid-long range of the 100-400 for sports especially, but something in my gut says to keep the 70-200 for portrait/low light work. As much as I love it, it's hard to justify the expense of the 70-200 for the odd shoot though (I'm no pro). Don't want to kick myself later if I sell it now. Is there too much overlap for these lenses, making them a little redundant or are they really complimentary?

Any thoughts?

<p><em>Leica Camera would like to inform you that the Leica Monochrom (Typ 246)’s DNG files are currently </em><em>incompatible with Apple’s ‘Photos’ App in Mac OS X Yosemite causing the library to crash and potentially lose all existing image files in the Apple Photos library.</em></p>
<p><em>As we will start shipping the new Leica Monochrom in the coming days, it is important that all dealers, sales personnel and customers are aware of this incompatibility issue.</em></p>
<p><em>With the new Apple ‘Photos’ App, when loading Monochrom DNG files from the new Monochrom, the library will crash continuously on loading. This may cause the Apple Photos library to be destroyed. This means that pictures previously taken with any other camera will be lost. <strong>As such, Leica Camera does not recommend using the Apple ‘Photos’ App for DNG files from the new Monochrom (Typ 246) until further notice.</strong></em></p>
<p><em>Leica and Apple are collaborating to resolve this issue and develop a solution so that the DNG files from the new Monochrom can be used with the ‘Photos’ App without any issues in the near future. It is anticipated that Apple will have this resolved in the next update for ‘Photos’.</em></p>

Pentax Australia has suggested that a full frame camera from the company will be addressed “closer to November” of this year on their Facebook page.</p>
<p>The Pentax digital medium format 645 is quite a good value and I suspect their first full frame camera will follow that same concept. Pentax has to do something that is feature rich and a great value if they want people to buy their 35mm DSLR.</p>

Hello. I just purchased two PC Buff Einstein lights. I am trying to use a Paul C Buff Cyber Commander on the hotshoe mount to fire the lights (6d does not have a sync port). Has anyone been able to make this work? Cannot figure anything out in flash settings menu on my 6d. Any help is appreciated!

Sometimes it’s nice to get a new perspective on an older lens. The EF 50mm f/1.2L might be one of the most polarizing lenses in the Canon lineup, some can’t live without it, while others wish it never existed. The contrasting opinions of the lens are usually because of the focus shift that some photographers experience with it. Certain shooting styles make the issue more prevalent for some.</p>
<p>Friend of the site Dustin Abbott has completed his thorough review of one of my favourite lenses in the Canon lineup. I love the EF 50mm f/1.2L as well as the EF 50mm f/1.0L. I think I just have a fetish for fast 50’s!</p>
<p>Dustin has this to say about the 50L when compared to the competition:</p>
<blockquote><p>The biggest threat to the Canon 50L has been the release of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART lens. TheZeiss Otus 55 f/1.4 (review coming next week) remains the class leader since its introduction, but its dizzying price (nearly $4000) and lack of AF means that it will stay off most photographer’s radar. The Sigma, however, has image quality that charts much better than the 50L’s along with autofocus, although it can struggle with focus accuracy and consistency. It also retails for about a third less than the 50L (which retails for $1450 when not on sale). You can read my review of the Sigma here. Is it the better lens? It is certainly sharper and has better contrast, but I’m not convinced that it has as “magical” a drawing/look as the 50L.</p></blockquote>

Hi all, looking for a bit of input.

I'm going on a trip to Ireland soon. This will be more of a vacation with my girlfriend than a dedicated photo trip, though I do want to catch some good shots and she is pretty understanding. I'm trying to pare down my kit since lugging around a bunch of stuff I end up not actually using is a pet peeve.

I have a 6D, and shoot almost exclusively without flash. I have a 430ex II, but since I don't use it much it seems large to carry around as a "just in case" piece of equipment. I've been looking for a more compact flash (more for fill). I thought about a white box 90ex, but I have heard very mediocre things here about it. I looked at a Sunpak RD2000, but that doesn't play well with the 6D.

That's when I found the Meike Mk320. It seems like an alternative to the 270ex that can act as a master unit.

Has anyone used one of these here? Any feedback? I was planning on picking one up on Amazon for $80.

Not sure about the EACHSHOT name. I think it may be re-branded but...

Also, planned gear for the trip: 6D, 24-105mm, 40mm, (possibly a 14mm), remote, spare batteries and cards, polarizer, ND, Lowepro Photo Sport 200 backpack.

Also looking for a stable small (possibly table top sized) tripod. Not convinced I want to drag around my 3 Legged Thing, but I don't really trust the old Gorrilapod that I have.

I noticed with my 7D M2 focus is missed when I have the camera set to single spot focussing (not sure if this is the correct term) but is accurate when I have micro-spot focussing.

This is repeatable on my 7D M2. I plan to send the camera will be sent to Canon for warranty service.

Dear experts.
Am thinking of selling my 5d3 to buy the 5d3r. They only hitch in my mind is low light. Will the IQ at ISO 3200 be almost equal between the two cameras? What do you think please? I rarely shoot above 3200.
Another note: 80% of my work is handheld. Tripod only when doing proper landscapes.

How does the 17-40 compare to the 16-35 f/4 when stopped down? Most of the information I find talks about shooting wide open (and the 16-35 f/4 is the undisputed king in that regard), but I haven't found much when shooting stopped down. I'm usually shooting between f/8 and f/16, almost never wide open, so I'm wondering whether it makes sense to upgrade.
