Which prime lens for nature fotography?

I saved some money, I´d like to buy an prime for nature photography (animals, birds,...). I will use it for day trips, no longer expeditions.

As they are not cheap, I´d like to ask which lens to buy?

300mm 2.8 with 2x converter?
400mm 2.8 with 2x converter?
500 or 600 mm 5.6 with an 1.4x converter?

Optically, all 4 lenses are now very good. (my old 400mm DO IS was not).
I will carry it around all day long - so low weighted will be an plus, but I want an good optical quality too. So the 2x converter is not the best solution....

But which one to decide? Can you give me an advice?
My cameras are: 5DII, 6D and 7D

High Megapixel Camera to Come in Two Variants? [CR1]

HTML:
<p>An unknown person has sent us a bunch of cryptic information about Canon’s roadmap over the next 6-9 months. I have been unable to confirm any of it, but hopefully this post will help shed some light on things.</p>
<p>We’re told that Canon will introduce a high megapixel camera in Q1 of 2015 and it will be released in two variants. What those two variants are wasn’t mentioned. I do not see Canon doing what Nikon did with the D800 and D800E, I’m thinking that the second variant could possibly be an astronomy version, like the 60Da and 20Da. The other possibility could be an EOS and Cinema EOS version of the camera, and everyone can drool at the possibility of an affordable 4K DSLR from Canon.</p>
<p>It was also stressed that the cameras being talked about wouldn’t be in the $8000-$9000 range like has been discussed recently, and likely cost half of that.</p>
<p>More to come</p>

The Next Cinema EOS Camera Will Be..... [CR2]

HTML:
<p>We’re told that the next Cinema EOS camera to be released will be a replacement to the EOS C100 and not the C300 or C500. No details were given as to when the camera would be released or any specifications, but I would assume it’ll come before NAB 2015 in April.</p>
<p>Saving a new C300 or C500 for that show would make marketing sense. Although, we do hear that Canon has plans for an over the shoulder style Cinema EOS camera, and perhaps that could be shown at NAB.</p>
<p>More to come…</p>

EOS6D or 7DMKII ?

Been looking for a replacement for my 40D which is getting a bit long in the tooth & had first thought of going for the 70D but reports of AF problems put me off it. In the meantime I bought an EOS100D/SL1 as I'd fancied a small body too & have been very pleased with it.

Having 17-40L & 70-200 F4L IS lenses, I was looking towards the 6D as my main interest is travel/landscape photography & a bit of airshow stuff (for which the 100D is fine) so FF seemed the logical way to go.

However, the 7D MKII is very tempting; whereas the 6D is kinda bottom of the range FF, the 7DMKII is certainly top of the range APS C sensor.

I do like the 7D's joystick & the new lever round it that you can assign different functions to like Exp comp looks really good. I like the GPS too, shame no wifi or articulating/touch screen but the 6D doesn't have those either.

If the early reports about the 7D MKII's lack of noise are accurate then then I think the IQ between the two is going to be minimal unless you print really large (which I don't).

The 7DMKII just seems a more complete camera whereas the 6D seems more of a compromise? Shame there's (not yet) a wideangle L series zoom for APS C bodies.

So, head says 6D, heart thinks 7DMKII. Any thoughts ?

Thoughts on Having a 35 and a 50 on Crop?

I have a crop sensor camera and really do like my 35 2.0 IS for most things. Paired it with a 10-18 and I have most non-sports things covered. Just got a job to photograph a large legal practice so figured that I would do well to have a 50. The Sigma 50 1.4 Art just arrived and I've all but already welded it to my camera. Focus is spot on and the colors/contrast/etc., well, you know.
I view the 35 as my landscape lens, wide angle zoom for large groups/tight spaces/foreground subject and the 50 as the portrait lens and general purpose (similar to the 35).
Does that make sense? Any thoughts on coexisting with a 35 and 50 (or a 50 and 85 on a full frame) would be a great thing.
Thanks.

Both Sony and Canon will announce Full Frame cameras with around 50 Megapixel during the first quarter of 2015. Those cameras will likely be displayed at the CP+ show which starts in mid February.

The Sony 46 Megapixel FF camera will almost certainly be a new E-mount A7 (or A9?). It will feature an advanced autofocusing system based on the current A6000 hybrid af camera.

Canon is likely to announce a new DSLR with such a 50MP sensor. But there is a small chance Canon could use that sensor also on a new Full Frame mirrorless system camera.

I am 100% sure those kind of sensors are coming early 2015. We have an exciting time ahead of us!

this is a quote from another site about Canon ..and FF sensor with 50 Megapixel!!!! I'm buying...

Has your wife (or significant other) thrown away your stuff?

I got a new copy of Light room 5... in a retail box and somehow it found its way into the recycling bin. Yeah... maybe I shouldn't have left it on the floor until I was ready to install it, but it didn't look like trash.

The person who I'm related to by marriage and lives in my home is the only one who cleans, so I'm ok with the occasional why is this now missing for the rest of my life... because it is a fair trade off to having to clean.

Maybe I need labels that say, NOT TRASH.

B&H Photo Hands-On With the EOS 7D Mark II

HTML:
<p>B&H Photo has posted their hands-on video with the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. As you might expect, they’re extremely favourable of the new APS-C camera from Canon. I can’t wait to try it out.</p>

7D2 theory

I was reading this thread on DPReview today (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54525945) and noticed that some had observed that the person doing the video review repeatedly referred to the 7D2 as having a 24 Mpixel sensor, and that got me thinking. If you all recall from the numerous rumours leading up to the 7D2, there were two sensors being talked about, a 20 Mpixel one and a 24 Mpixel one. So, the idea occurred to me that there were two development cameras, one using a modified 70D sensor to test the other components and design of the body, and a second camera with a more advanced 24 MPixel sensor that was supposed to go into the final body. And then perhaps during testing it became clear the more advanced 24 Mpixel sensor was not quite ready for prime time yet - maybe there were issues in read speed/timing, that sort of thing. since the 7D2 was already way behind schedule, Canon may have decided to go with the prototype using the 70D sensor instead so they could get it out of the door.

If that is the case then the 7D2 we got is not the camera Canon originally intended, but it became the final product so that it could be moved out the door and Canon could move on, even though it arrived already essentially obsolete.

So maybe there might be a 7D3 in the not too distant future if they can get the 24 Mpixel sensor to play nice.

Multilayer Sensors are Coming From Canon [CR2]

HTML:
<p>Canon has been hard at work on multi-layer sensors and they will be coming in an upcoming professional level full frame DSLR we’re told. There will be two cameras based on this technology coming in 2015, one would expect a replacement for the EOS-1D X and perhaps another professional body with a high megapixel count. There was no mention of an EOS 5D Mark IV.</p>
<p>The high resolution camera is expected to be announced in Q1 of 2015. Even though we have heard from places unknown that such a camera would make an appearance at PhotoPlus at the end of this month. A Canon Explorer of Light has told us they’ve been promised a high megapixel camera to come “sooner than later”.</p>
<p>I suspect most of this came from Photokina chatter.</p>

24-70 swap

Hey guys, I'm currently shooting on a 24-70 f/2.8 L (version 1) and it's just not giving me the results i was hoping for. I find it to be soft and i think it has less than stellar AF.

I'm considering swapping this lens for the 24-70 f/4 L IS. The sharpness is really what I'm seeking at if it takes a stop to get there so be it. The lenses have almost an identical price tag so that's a non factor. Also the size and weight of the new lens are an upgrade as well.

Has anyone here made the switch from the 2.8 version 1 to the new f/4 IS?

ALSO - my budget doesn't allow a 2.8 version II. I know how much CR loves that lens, don't try to recommend it. it's not happening.

recommendation: canon 24mm f1.4 or 85mm f1.2 for wedding?

Hi folks! Need your input on a next-lens purchase: Canon 24mm f1.4 II or 85mm f1.2 II for wedding?

I've dug through shotkit.com's pages and found that both of these lenses are mainstays in a large number of wedding photographer's kits. Please help me decide, based on your own experiences, which one I should go after when considering the lenses that I already have:

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8
Sigma 35mm f1.4
Canon 50mm f1.2
Canon 70-200mm f2.8

My dilemma is, the 24mm is only slightly wider than my excellent 35mm so it's not a drastic upgrade in wideness. The 85mm is already covered within the range of the 70-200mm. Both offer huge aperture for indoor wedding shots and would be an improvement over my existing lenses.

I plan to eventually steal/rob/plunder/pillage my way to both lenses. But if you were in my shoes right now, which lens would you guys pick? Thanks in advance!

Lens adapters for Samsung NX ??

Hello there

I am undecided wether to go for the new 7D 2 or the NX1. Of course I will wait until December anyway until there are some real-world tests about them but I find the NX1 quite interesting.

Let's say the new Samsung NX1 will be as good as advertised. Is there an adapter with which I could use Canon EF lenses on it? If so, what would be the downsides of such a combo? I have seen quite some reviews of the so highly praised Sony A7 series where they used metabones adapters to use EF lenses on them and in these tests they were quite happy with the IQ outcome.
