No EOS-1D X Replacement in 2014 [CR2]

HTML:
<p>There’s been some talk about an EOS-1D X replacement some time in 2014, and it has been discussed even more with the <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/09/deal-canon-eos-1d-x-body-4799/" target="_blank">apparent price drop on the camera through grey market retailers</a>.</p>
<p>I have it from a good source that the EOS-1D X won’t be replaced in 2014, but should see an update in 2015. This is a pretty safe bet, especially judging by the EOS 7D Mark II features. That brand new 65 point AF system should be making its way to the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II within the next 12-18 months.</p>

Review: Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS by Dustin Abbott

HTML:
<p>The extensive reviews of the Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS continue to roll on. This time Dustin Abbot has posted his review of the Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS.</p>
<p>This is another review that is quite glowing about the Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS. It looks to be a good upgrade if you have an EF 17-40 f/4L and a great choice if you need a fill frame wide angle zoom don’t need the extra stop of light that the EF 16-35 f/2.8L II provides. I have yet to seriously shoot with the lens, but I hope to change that soon.</p>
<p><strong>From Dustin’s Conclusion

</strong><em>“This lens is good…really, really good. It is so competent that you have to stretch to find criticisms. What is even more true is that this lens is going to serve hundreds of thousands of photographers around the world very, very well.”</em><strong>

Patent: Tamron 10-50 f/3.5-5.6 VC Fisheye for APS-C

HTML:
<p>Tamron looks to be continuing their set of VC wide angle zoom lenses. This time with a 10-50mm f/3.5-5.6 VC fisheye lens for APS-C cameras. This would <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/09/tamron-announces-development-of-full-frame-15-30mm-f2-8-vc/" target="_blank">follow the very well received 15-30mm f/2.8 VC</a> that was shown at Photokina this month in Germany.</p>

Video Editing Work Flow?

I am beginner on taking video / film making / videography (i dont know if these terms can be use interchangeably).

After recording a video using my 6D. The SD card shows .mov file.

1. What is usually the next step? should I convert it to other format prior to video editing?
2. What are the usual video editing that needs to be done? cutting/rejecting portions of the video?
3. What is the usual final format (for still, its jpeg).

Thanks.

Site trolling

Do Canon owners traditionally go to other camera fanatic sites ie... nikonrumor or fujiforums or sonyfans whatever they might be... and troll and deride those members for their equipments faults and shortcomings.

You cannot ask a question on this site anymore without someone saying go buy a sony because Canon sucks...

Is this what Canon owners did when the Nikon was an inferior product? is this our payback?

It is really bad right now... what gives?

You would think that Nikon . Sony owners would haunt there side of the interwebs...

50mm f/1.4 Canon vs. Sigma

I currently have the Canon version and while sometimes it takes amazing images, a lot of the time I find it's super soft or just misses focus. I also own the 85mm f/1.8, which I find to be much sharper and hits focus a lot more often, so it's not me having a focus issue.

My question is, would it be worth switching to the Sigma version? I'm mostly worried about it not having the creamy bokeh that the Canon version has because the Sigma is a much sharper lens.

Example of when I hate this lens:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/jesseherzog/14892121262/

Focus is off and image is super soft. Not a fan of the bokeh in this either.

Examples of when I love this lens:

Sony a7r with Canon Lens experience

Hello Guys,

I know that this is a Canon forum, but i would like to hear some thoughts on this matter from Canon people.

So i`m thinking on buying a Sony A7R to join my trusty Canon 5d2 and Fuji X100s. I have a Sigma 35mm 1.4, Zeiss 21 and a 70-200 IS 2.8, and i`m thinking on buying the sony 55 FE 1.8 too.

You can see my kind of photography here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/giamppiero/

I would like some advices from people who bought and use the A7r for Landscape photography and streetphotography, and what about the adapters experience, and general experience with the camera.

Thanks
João

Next purchase?

So, I've got a 70-200 2.8 II, 6D, and a 2.0 Tele III, and many other lenses, but, currently nothing longer than that. I really want a 200-400 1.4 but am hesitating because of the price. But, I was talking to photo professor at a local big time university, and he said with my 6D, I shouldn't buy the 200-400 unless I also (or first) buy a 1Dx body. I was holding off until the next generation since I like the 6D sensor, although I realize the 1Dx can do other stuff the 6D can't do. Which is more important to own- the 1Dx or the 200-400 1.4? If I get the 200-400 is it that important to get the 1Dx? Thoughts? A 200-400 1.4 with 1Dx total like $17,000! Ouch.

What 3rd party flash?

Hi, I currently own a 430EX and a 580EX, along with a number of Canon cameras (DSLR and Powershot).

I am looking for two extra flashes:

Flash A, to be used off-camera:
Must have:
  • ETTL optical slave (Canon optical wireless)
  • Dumb slave, so that I can trigger it with my Powershot
Nice to have: some kind of radio slave support, any system.

Flash B, to be used on- and off-camera:
Must have:
  • ETTL optical master & slave (Canon optical wireless)
  • Dumb slave, so that I can trigger it with my Powershot (currently S90)
  • zoom
  • AF assist (reliable)
  • some kind of radio master & slave support, any system
Nice to have: video LED.

What are the current choices?

mirrorless ?

I was wondering, are we all hoping to be using our lenses and flashes some day on a mirrorless camera? What is it that we want from this camera? do we want it to fit in our pocket? Do we want it to have a FF sensor? We certainly want the best AF Canon can muster, but do we want a little plastic computer hanging off the back our our teles? Or do we just want what we basically have now, - the mirror + any and all benefits that a mirrorless arrangement gives us?

EOS 7D Mark II: More High ISO Samples

HTML:
<p>Fotoblogia.pl has posted some sample images from the upcoming Canon EOS 7D Mark II. The images at ISO 3200 look pretty awesome to me, especially for APS-C. There’s not a lot of great imagery out there from the EOS 7D Mark II yet, so we should see even better results when the real world stuff comes out.</p>
<p>The initial reception to this camera based on specs was pretty tepid, which I didn’t understand. However, as the sample images and hands-on accounts have come out, there seems to be a pretty big shift to genuine excitement for the camera. I personally can’t wait to shoot some hockey with this camera come November.</p>

Shootout: EF 16-35 f/4L IS vs EF 17-40 f/4L

HTML:
<p><a href="http://www.grahamclarkphoto.com/canon-16-35mm-f4-review-hands-on-shootout-17-40/" target="_blank">Graham Clark</a> has completed a shootout between the latest Canon ultra wide angle zoom, the EF 16-35 f/4L IS and the always dependable and very popular EF 17-40 f/4L.</p>
<p>There are tons of RAW files and video to whet your appetite if you happen to be undecided between the two lenses, or if you’re not sure you want to “upgrade” your EF 17-40 f/4L. I found this to be about the most thorough review and comparison between the two lenses, as well as showcasing the EF 16-35 f/4L IS.</p>
<p><iframe width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/K7n1L1QCjqU?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p><strong>Graham says in his conclusions

</strong><em>“The inclusion of Image Stabilization, incredible corner sharpness and bar-none the best CA performance on corners I’ve ever seen put the Canon 16-35 F4 IS at the top of a very short list of must-get Ultra-Wide Angle Zooms. If you’re a Canon or Sony landscape and/or a travel photographer in the market for a ultra-wide angle zoom, and/or you’re looking to upgrade whatever you currently have, this is the one to get.”</em></p>

Help: Canon 24mm f2.8 IS Vs. Canon 24mm f1.4L II for astrophotography

I am aware that these two lenses compete in different leagues in terms of build quality and IQ.
I am planning to get into astrophotography and many folks have told me that my 24-70mm f2.8L (I) will not be good enough.
There is a guy that is selling his 24mm f2.8 IS at a good price and the lens is in like-new condition, would you stay with the 24-70mm and give a try, or buy the 24mm f2.8 IS or keep saving and get the 24mm f1.4L II?

I am aware that there is a Rokinon 24mm f1.4 that seems to be a good option but I prefer to use canon. And my other current option will be my EF 15mm f2.8 (fisheye) lens.

If you go with any of the options, could you tell me why?

Thanks
