Give me reasons to by the 200 f/2

I am a wedding photographer and I already have a lot of great gear that helps me do my job well. I have a 1DX, a 5D3, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 24-70L II, 85mm 1.2L, 50mm 1.2L, 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro, 90mm f/2.8 TS, and I just picked up the 300mm f/4L IS. I obviously have everything I need to do a good job at any wedding, however I just like to buy gear and get the best I can as long as I can justify buying it. Sure it would be really nice to have the 400mm f/2.8 for when I am stuck in the balcony of the church but I can't justify the price of the lens for that reason.

I am so close to buying the 200mm f/2 but I am actually having a hard time justifying the price. I have looked into it so much and I know it is superb, but will it be worth the $6000? I don't know? I love to shoot wide open and I love lens compression. I shoot with the 85 at 1.2 always and I try to stand back and use my 70-200 at 200mm or sometimes I even use the 300mm for portraits.

I also like the 300mm for when I am stuck in the back of the church during ceremonies, but I would probably have to sell it if I picked up the 200 f/2. I am curious how the 200 f/2 would preform with the 1.4xIII or 2xIII teleconverters in terms of IQ in relation to the 300 f/4L. I am not terribly concerned about focus speed because the 300 f/4 isn't super fast and I mostly use it when everything is still.

Anyone have any thoughts? Especially those of you who use the 70-200 f/2.8L IS and the 200mm f/2. Also if by chance any of you have any knowledge on how the IQ of the 200mm f/2 with the 1.4III teleconverter relates to the 300mm f/4L?

Is the C500 / C300 worth it anymore?

With a slew of other cameras coming out with equal or better specs at lower prices, and these cameras being several years old with no new significant upgrades, I am wondering if this is still worth it?

My company is looking to buy a 4K camera like, now. C500 is a beautiful camera, but is it unjustified?

Still think Canon is the best at this game, but there are some other contenders - I hope I wont have to sell my Canon glass. (I wont :0

I edited this post because I initially rambled on a bit.

Given all of the love and hate that's arisen on CR from the Sigma 50A's debut, I thought I'd set up a silly poll... Yes, I'm guilty of 50L love, but have no ill feelings towards the Sigma.

Canon 70D vs. 6D - Which is the better "Do-It-All" camera?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to these boards so I am sorry if this question is redundant, however I would like some input from more experienced photographers.

I am looking to update my Canon T2i. It has been a good camera for my wife and I, but it just isn't cutting it anymore and we would like to update to something that can really do it all.

As poor college students, we have a tight budget so a 5D mkIII is not really an option right now. But we are looking for a camera we can share and that will be best utilized for our different styles and settings of photography as well as videography.

My wife has seen a recent surge in interest for wedding photography but mostly does engagement, family, and graduation portraits. And really needs a camera that can keep up. She mostly shoots out doors in early morning or dusk lighting and enjoys using a 50mm lens pretty exclusively, but is wanting to also use zoom and wide angle lenses occasionally. My needs are more for video. I mostly do sporting events and dance concerts, but was recently asked to do both a promotional film and a music video. I don't mind using manual-focus, but would prefer a camera that could help me out a bit, especially in filming fast-paced sporting events. I mostly use a 70-200 lens and occasionally a 50mm.

Needless to say, we need to update our equipment ASAP.

Which of these cameras will best serve our needs and why? We are also open to other options.

Thank you so much for your time and advice.

Back Button Focussing and AF Points

I just attended a Canon Roadshow over the weekend where one of the speakers was extolling the virtues of Back Button Focussing (BBF).

The presenter explained about using BBF to gain sharpness on your subject and then recomposing your frame before engaging the shutter. It seems so logical and more precise to me!

His presentation finally made me 'get' BBF and I've decided to convert. Well, once the muscle memory kicks in

Landscape lens for backpacking

I am lucky to say that I have a permit to hike the John Muir Trail this August and cannot wait to bring my camera along with me. I currently have a 40D, 24-70 mk I, and 15 fisheye. I would like to get wider shots than the 24-70 on my crop, and am kind of forced to make a decision: get a FF body or a wider lens. I'm not 100% sold on any FF body as being the one for me (new or used), so I'm leaning towards new glass. Weight and price are not of concern to me as this is going to be one epic trip. The obvious choice seems to be the 16-35 for superior IQ over the 17-40, despite weight and cost. But are there primes I should consider as well? I certainly wouldn't hesitate considering one, especially if the IQ and weight are superior by comparison to the 16-35.

Thanks!

Another Interesting (or just Meaningless?) Comparison

Being the proud new owner of the Canon 50/1.2L, and seeing all the hype regarding the new Zeiss Otus 55/1.4, I thought I would dig through my old issues of Popular Photography for a comparison of their respective "SQF" charts and other test data. Much to my pleasant surprise, it's seems to be a literal dead heat, at least from their efforts. (Both charts are attached below - Zeiss on the left, Canon on the right.) If nothing else, an interesting comparison from another source.

As an aside, I don't think I have ever run across a CR thread that mentions tests in Popular Photography magazine. Any reasons/opinions on this? Just curious ...

How to remove image information

My friend took some images of a model for me
He took the photos portrait

I'm trying to upload into Wordpress to create a product
The problem is that it makes the images horizontal

I've tried a zillion things and am going nuts!
I'm guessing there's some extra info with the picture that says the camera was slanted or something?
Anyone know how to get rid of the information in bulk??

Thanks

Omar

Canon 135mm f/2.....Is this normal?

When in dark lighting, when the AF is trying to find focus, the lens makes HARD stops going back & forth, trying to find focus....making small but noticeable clunking noises. I can even feel the vibrations coming from the lens. It sort of reminds me of a car trying to get a parking space & keeps bumping into other cars. My other Cannon lenes do not do this. Is this normal for this lens? Thanks, Bill

Sigma 50mm F/1.4 Art Image Quality comparisons posted at The Digital Picture

Bryan Carnathan's most excellent TDP website has posted a very nice head to head of IQ of the Sigma 50 Art against 7 similar focal length primes, including the Canon L, Canon 50 1.4 and the Zeiss Otus:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=9491

His IQ comparisons are fun if you haven't used them before. You mouseover the sample shot and the arrow indicator flips to show what image is being shown. You can change the aperture and see what changes, and he'll eventually even run the same test on crop body (note: he only has FF data on the new Sigma 50 right now).

By my eyes on these sample shots, the new Sigma Art thoroughly trounces the Canon 50L (as expected) and the Canon 50 F/1.4 (though it's pretty similar after F/4 or so). The Zeiss, to me, looks sharper wide open, esp. in the corners. Maybe that's what +$3k buys for you. :P

Of course, this is not the end-all be-all for a lens review. I'm sure Bryan will write quite an opus on this one in the next week or two.

But it's looking good. Have at it and see for yourself!

Has anyone confirmed the 12 FPS on the 1DX?

I have put several thousand rounds on my 1DX. I have made extensive use of the 12 FPS. Short of recording the sound of the camera firing and examining the sound file, how do you confirm 12 FPS? Has anyone confirmed the 1DX captures 12 FPS through testing?

I have this feeling I am not getting it and was hoping to hear of the methods used to test the claim to see exactly what I am getting. I understand that AI Servo may slow it down, lighting situations, etc. I just want to confirm it on my own camera. Any help would be great.

Total Lunar Eclipse - #1 of 4 - April 2014

There are FOUR total lunar eclipses occurring over the next two years. Tonight is the first of the four. It starts at 1:58pm ET, 11:58 MT, and 10:58 PT. If you are planning on photographing the first lunar eclipse this year, share your photos here!

I'm aiming to get a full sequence of the entire eclipse, from the first penumbral dimming through totality and ending at the point the moon moves out of the penumbra (for me, that's from 11:58pm through 3:30am.)

Anyone still shoot with an FTb?

I'm not even sure that this is the right forum but I can't find anywhere else this fits.

My first Canon was an FTb that I purchased back in about 1973. I loved that camera and took a lot of pictures with it, mostly transparencies and Tri-X B & W negatives. A few weeks ago I was rummaging around in a closet and discovered the camera, neatly stored away. It's in flawless condition and I still have the lenses that I purchased for it including my personal favorite, a Bell & Howell/Canon FD 24 mm f2.8 (yes, Canon was briefly a subsidiary of Bell & Howell, back in the 70's).

The camera is in flawless condition. It probably needs a tuneup, a thorough cleaning and the shutter should be retensioned, but aside from that it's absolutely good to go. I really got excited for a while thinking about taking some pictures with it. But then, I was hit with the practical considerations. Do they even make transparency films? And, if so, what do I do with the images?

So, I'm wondering. Does anyone out there still shoot pictures with this old warhorse? What do you shoot? What do you do with the images? I'm intrigued with the idea of going back into transparency shooting just for the sheer hell of it, but I'm daunted by the fact that this is apparently an extinct technology. Your thoughts?

70D manufacturing delays

Copied this from PetaPixel...
Released back in September of 2009, the Canon 7D is long overdue for a much-anticipated refresh. The problem is, up until just recently various sources have published conflicting reports that seem to get us no closer to knowing what this camera will actually look like.

However, yesterday, Northlight Images reported some interesting news that seems to make sense and go along with some of the more plausible rumors about the impending camera.

The Northlight Images report claims that the Canon 7D Mark II will feature a higher end version of the dual pixel sensor Canon used in the 70D. A slightly less powerful version of the tech is also rumored to appear in the 700D (Rebel T5i) and 100D (Rebel SL1) replacements.

However, it seems some manufacturing issues with the dual pixel design of the 70D sensor has delayed production of the 7D Mark II and other successors, forcing Canon to push back release dates until late summer or possibly even early fall.

canon7d_mini

Beyond the new sensor technology in the camera, the below specs are just some of what has been rumored to make an appearance in the 7D successor, although there are a few conflicting reports:
•20MP APS-C Sensor
•ISO 100-12800 (expandable to 25600)
•1/8000 – 30s, Bulb, X=1/250
•150,000 shutter life
•Silent shutter mode, similar to 5DMIII
•19-point phase autofocus
•8fps
•15 Raw / 126 JPEG Buffer
•3.0″ 1040k LCD, touch screen
•Optional WiFi
•Magnesium Alloy body
•Battery capacity 850 shots
•148.2 x 110.7 x 73.5 mm
•Weight 910g

Ultimately, much of this is up in the air still, with nothing considered confirmed until Canon decides to make an announcement itself, but the rumored specs seem to be fairly logical considering what Canon has put out in the past

Sigma 300-800 - Anyone use this lens?

I have an opportunity to pick up a Sigma 300-800 for a good price. I've been saving for a while to get a long prime for when my 300 2.8 + 2x TC isn't enough. I'd be using it for wildlife and some field sports. I'm interested in hearing thoughts from anyone who has used or currently uses this lens. I'm specifically interested in how well it will take a 1.4 TC and how well the AF performs. I realize that this isn't a 600 f/4 IS or Canon 800 f5.6 IS but I'd really like to know if it will make a decent poor man's super tele, at least until I hit the powerball :)

7D Mark.II delayed again + 1Dx replacement mentioned.

http://petapixel.com/2014/04/14/canons-7d-mark-ii-reportedly-delayed-due-dual-pixel-sensor-manufacturing-issues/

Northlight :
In an interesting set of information we're told (thanks), that manufacturing issues (yeild was suggested) with the dual pixel design of the APS-C sensor in the 70D have delayed the launch of the 7D mk2 -and- the 750D and 100D replacements.
A higher performance version of the 70D sensor is used for the 7D2, whilst a cheaper version will appear in the 750 and 100D replacement (150D?)
All are dependent on having sufficient volume of sensor chips available at suitable price/performance points.
The information was passed along to several larger (European) dealers querying Canon DSLR camera availability for later this year, especially the holiday season. All three cameras were loosely slated for Q2 release, but are now Q3. There was no news of a 'big megapixel' body only that the replacement of the 1D X was 'on schedule'.
