ProGrade Notice: Stop Using Sanitize for SD Cards With Select Canon Cameras

We have discovered an issue where the SD card is not recognized by the Canon EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R5, or EOS R3 after sanitizing it with Refresh Pro (version 4.0.3 or earlier). We plan to release Refresh Pro (version 4.0.4) soon, which will implement a fix. We ask that customers using the affected […]

Canon R5 Mark II + 600EX-RT Compatibility - Need Quick Advice!

I'm getting contradictory information online about flash compatibility and need to order soon due to shipping timing constraints.

**My setup:**
- Canon R5 Mark II
- Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
- Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM

**What I want to buy:**
- Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT (used)
- Canon MR-14EX II macro ring flash

**The confusion:**
Some sources say the 600EX-RT works perfectly with R5 Mark II, others say it's "not recommended" or has significant limitations (lost IR AF assist, weather sealing issues requiring AD-E1 adapter, etc.).

**My intended uses:**
- MR-14EX II for macro work with the 100mm lens
- 600EX-RT for wildlife/herp photography with the 100-500mm
- Potentially using both flashes together wirelessly

**Questions:**
1. Do any of you actually use a 600EX-RT with R5 Mark II? Any real-world issues?
2. Does the MR-14EX II work well as a wireless trigger for the 600EX-RT?
3. Should I go with a newer 600EX II-RT instead, or different speedlight entirely?
4. Are the "limitations" I'm reading about actually problematic in practice?

I know the 600EX-RT is older, but the price is right and I've heard good things. Just want to make sure I'm not buying incompatible gear!

Thanks for any real-world experiences you can share - time sensitive due to shipping logistics.

Canon Has Multiple New Product Announcements Coming in November

I have been bugging a lot of people about when Canon announcements were coming in 2025, I knew there were two more dates, but I didn’t know when. These dates are 99% accurate unless something goes sideways. Announcement Dates Canon will have two announcement dates in November. We will see new gear announced on November […]

Godox Releases the Godox X3Pro Flash Trigger

This is a great-looking flash trigger. Godox stepped up their game with this one. Today, Godox has announced the X3Pro flash trigger, featuring a significantly larger screen and body. Some proponents can really argue, though, that while this looks good, the lack of tactile controls makes this more challenging to control in the studio environment, […]

End of an Era: 1DX Mark III Discontinued

First of all, I’m a little surprised by this. Canon’s 1-series cameras usually had a reasonably long lifespan, and the 1DX Mark III was announced via development announcement on October 24, 2019, and officially announced on January 6th, 2020, so it’s not even that old of a camera. Especially by professional standards. TOKYO, October 24, […]

TS-E 17mm repair needed

I purchased a Canon Refurb TS-E 17mm lens a few years ago and up until this weekend it has been fine.
Now the lens will shoot wide open, but won't stop down to a smaller taking aperture. I just get a 01 code on the R5 and 5D Mark IV.
This code is a communications error between the lens and adaptor or camera body. I have(very gently) cleaned the contacts, to no benefit.
I can hear the lens making a noise during its stop down attempt. This lens has never been dropped or mishandled, and when not in use resides in a dry cabinet.
Canon's website says they no longer repair the lens, so I was wondering if anyone out there has a repair house they recommend.
Thanks in advance.

Focus off

I do astrophotography. My workflow in the field involves manually focusing the lens, and then mounting the camera on my tracker and shooting multiple frames. Once mounted on the tracker, checking focus is cumbersome.
One of the key sources of bad data, and sometimes whole wasted nights, is focusing errors. It is very easy to bump the focus ring to throw things off slightly, just enough to create unacceptable frames. Things get even trickier when a lens heater is needed.
Is there a way to turn off focusing completely - i.e. no autofocus and no manual focus. In theory one should be able to turn off manual focus because modern R mount lenses are focus-by-wire and there is no mechanical coupling between the focus ring and the lens elements. I want to focus my lens at the start, and then leave the lens elements where they are.
My camera is an RP.

Having some fun with a couple of Maven filters

The first image is a normal color photo
The second image I was using a Maven CPL/ND6 filter
The third image is a .jpg example of what a RAW IR photo looks like. I was using a Maven IR730 filter
The fourth image shows the IR photo after I processed it using DXO Photolab Elite 9
The last image, I pushed the processed IR image through DXO NIK 8 Silver Efex90D_2025-09-16_IMG_5527_DxO_1-1.jpg90D_2025-09-16_IMG_5528_DxO_1-1.jpg90D_2025-09-16_IMG_5531_DxO-1.jpg90D_2025-09-16_IMG_5531_DxO_2-1.jpg90D_2025-09-16_IMG_5531_Nik_1_NIK.jpg

Everything We’ve Been Told About The Canon EOS R7 Mark II

We’ve received a bunch of communications about the upcoming Canon EOS R7 Mark II, most of which we can’t vet for accuracy. When you can’t vet things, you have to wonder if things are made-up or simply wish lists. I’ll say up front that Canon’s APS-C camera lineup doesn’t really interest me, but I do […]

Nikon Teases its Z Cinema lineup of Lenses

Nikon has created a new Instagram account for its Z mount cinema gear called ‘zcinema’ and immediately showed off an upcoming lineup of lenses that certainly are cinema in appearance, with what appears to be focus and iris (aperture) gearing. Canon states the G7X Mark III is Now Back in Production

It appears that the G7X Mark III is back in production. Hopefully, we’ll see some change in stock, as right now, when we look at B&H and other websites, we see this: The status of “temporarily out of stock” feels almost like an exaggeration, at least the “temporarily” part – I can’t recall when it […]
