Sell 60D now or after 70D is shipping?

I received a brand new 60D kit (with 18-135mm lens) last year for Black Friday (I didn't even have to wait for Christmas). So it's only a few months old, and I've only taken a couple thousand pictures, and it is in mint condition.

I was considering upgrading to either the 70D or 6D, and was wondering about what the optimal time would be to sell the 60D.

It appears that on eBay/Craigslist, the most I might be able to get is maybe $750, so a lot of depreciation has already occured.

My question is, when the replacement is announced, will the used price plummet, or will it remain relatively stable? If it's not going to drop much more in value, then I'll probably hang onto it for a while.

However, if the price is going to go through the floor, I'll seriously consider selling it soon/now, even before the 70D is announced/shipping.

(I know a lot of this is contintent on the 70D specs, but looking for general advice.)

Thanks

Recommendation for lens 18-20 mm

Hi

I have the 24-70 II and 14mm. Both are excellent lens as is the 24 II (which I don't currently own). However there is a gap here. the 17 TS-E would fill the gap but it is big, heavy, cumbersome and expensive if only used as a straight 17. There is the Nikon 14-24 but it is awkward to use (though not impossible to use).

Other recommendation? Nothing in the Canon lineup seems to fill the gap without giving up on IQ. Any recommendations.

Thanks

24-70mm upgrade?

Keep or upgrade

    Votes: 2 9.5%

I've been debating adding a f/2.8 standard zoom to my kit to use for lower light and indoor family and event photography. I currently have the following lenses that I use on my Canon 6D:

24-105mm 4.0 L
35mm 1.4 L
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.8
135mm 2.0 L
70-200mm 2.8 II L

I normally use my 35/50/85/135 primes for low light photography and they do a great job, but I find myself often wishing I had a fast standard zoom to avoid frequent lens changes or missing shots with the kids who are moving faster than I do.

I use the 24-105 for most outdoor and landscape shots. Its a good lens, but after extensive use this winter, I'm a little disappointed with its IQ, distortion at the wide end and I don't think colors are rendered quite as well as my other L lenses. So, if I buy a 24-70, It will probably become my primary landscape/outdoor lens as well and I may sell the 24-105 at some point.

Budget isn't a major consideration. I have the money available for the Tamron lens now and can have the money for the Canon II in a month or two.

Indoor Skydiving: iFly

Apparently iFly was on NikonRumors and got sick of it and sold all their gear and switched to Canon ;D ;D ;D

---

Seriously though . . .

---

I took my boy to iFly (indoor skydiving) and saw the canon camera behind the glass.

They had the benefit of front-lighting, I was fighting that light from the back (won't know until I get home how well I did since I'll have to post-process for the lighting).

Bought a pic as a hedge against my still growing skills with the Tamron 24-70; I was mostly paying for the curiosity of the exif . . .

THAT said, I got what I wanted for $4:
They're using a 50D w/ 10-22mm.

Glass/plexiglass is truly my nemesis; I hate seeing my fat arse in the dang image ;) I had both of my high-end filters, which DID NOT fit my lens (did I mention I'm still learning on the Tamron?) . . .

I'm going to scrutinize the image when I get home, but it was ISO 1600 and I was at 6400 with the 5DmkII, so wish me luck

Upgrade from 400D with a low budget

Hello Forum,

I follow this website and forum for some months and I hope you can give me an advise.

Since a couple of years I own a Canon EOS 400D with an Sigma 18 - 200mm DC OS.
First I used it as fotoscout in clubs and took only photos in JPEG.
At the beginning of 2012 I startet with "photography", read magazins and enlarged my knowledge and startet to take photos in RAW.
So in April 2012 I bought the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II, to see, how good the camera is and I was really impressed about the result.
The IQ can be really good (for my level and in comparison to the Sigma lens.)
To get an better IQ on all my pictures, I bought in January 2013 the Canon EF-S 15 - 85 IS USM which is a really good and sharp lens.

If i would only take pictures outdoor, with good light, I would say the 400D is enough for me.
But I also often take pictures indoor and the noise of the 400D over ISO 400 is too much.
The flash (Speedlight 430 EX II) is a great assistance, but it don't help to stay under ISO 800 in every situation.

I mainly use the camera for this genres:

- Landscape
- Indoor / Outdoor portraits
- Indoor / outdoor family/party photos
- sometimes wildlife/animals

The main reason to get a new camera is the bad ISO-performance over ISO 400 of the 400D.

Yesterday I bought an Canon 70 - 200 L F/4 IS USM on ebay (for a good price i hope) and now my budget is very low (under 1000$ - I'm a family father and photography is one of my hobbies).

I waited long time for the 70D, but do I really need the new camera?
I think the price for the body (1199$) is too much for me.

Should I stay in the rebel line and buy the 700D or should I buy the 60D for the low price?
I think the IQ of both is nearly the same and I think the ISO-performance is ok for me.

I like the turnable display for pictures in special perspectives.
But I don't really need the touch screen, it's just nice to have.
At the moment I don't make videos, but if I want to, I think the 700D is better in case of the continues AF.

Or should I stay on the 400D and wait until the 70D (if it comes out) gets cheaper?

Questions over questions...

I hope you can help me.
And sorry for my bad english ;-)

Thank you in advance.

I need a 24mm focal lenght Lens.. is the 24mm f2.8 IS right for me?

i tried the EF 17-40mm and was not satisfied, then i tried the 24-105mm and was also not satisfied.

is there really no 24mm lens with better image quality in the canon lineup that does not cost a fortune??
the borders looked bad with the 17-40mm and 24-105mm.
i compared the images to my uncles images and his 14-24mm nikkor lens is much better.
the nikkor is sharper and has less distortions.

so i thought i buy the EF 24mm f2.8 IS.
it´s a prime and i expect better image quality then the zooms, right?

is the 24mm f2.8 IS noticable better than the zooms i have tested?

i really only need the 24mm, but the image quality has to be great from center to border.
is there another 24mm lens option for me, around 600-800 euro?

before i forget, i have a 5D MK3.

ps: the 24-70mm f2.8 II is to expensive.

Help with Bird ID?

Hi, hoping someone can assist with positive id for this bird. My best guess is that it is either a Western Kingbird or a Cassin's Kingbird. They appear to be very similar to me and I'm not sure I can properly Id the bird.

The Cassin's Kingbird is rare here in Central Florida, they've been seen nonetheless. A Western Kingbird sighting is apparently somewhat rare here as well, they are known to migrate a bit south of where I'm at from my understanding.

There are wingbars as can be seen, yet I'm told one of the more telling differences is the white chin and malar contrasting with the darker head and breast. I don't see that it this one at all. They are very similar and I'm really just not sure, hopefully someone from the midwestern states can Id it more positively for me!

Thanks all,
Ken :o

Is my Canon lens defect?

Hello,

I have a quite new 70-200 IS USM and have trouble with manual focus on it. If I turn the focusring the focussing doesn't follow fast and properly. E.g. if I try to focus manually from infinity to close focus then if I turn the focus at first nothing happens and then if follow but not with a constant movement.

Something must be really wrong or is it me?

Cheers
Andreas

A light at the end of the tunnel?

I spoke to someone at NAB last week about the yet-to-be-officiall-announced EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x. I was told that the lens is now “expected to arrive in the fall of 2013. The design and functionality of the lens are set, Canon is now waiting for the manufacturing process to be finalized so production can begin”.

I got to hold and play with the 200-400 a bit last week, and I must say the weight of it shocked me. It’s going to be pretty close to the EF 600 f/4L IS II. I’m sure everything else about the lens is top notch, as we’re still being told to expect a price north of $10,000 USD.

Boston

Hey guys! I'm sure you're all aware of the terrible explosions in Boston. Just another sign of how street photography can be dangerous sometimes, especially when we don't think about it and don't expect anything like that. I hope none of those who live in Boston or visited it yesterday got injured. Take care!

How do you buy equipment?

Good morning everyone, I would like to know how most of you acquire your photo gear, do you pay cash for everything or is there a way to finace some gear at a lower rate than credit cards? I save money as much as I can but things come up and you have to pay for stuff, and so I put my photography purchases on hold and it seems like it stays there forever. I have a full time job and I make money here and there from photography but its annoying borrowing equipment or renting all the time and missing opportunities for great shots or business.

Tokina 50-135mm f/2.8 DX

Has anyone shot on the Tokina 50-135? I'm looking for a telephoto zoom for my 7D but I find that the lovely 70-200mm L is too tight on the crop sensor. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this lens and could comment on it's sharpness and AF performance. I hear a lot of positive reviews of Tokina's 11-16. I'm hoping this lens is similar. Thanks.

Im just wondering what the breakdown of canonrumors' is.

Im pretty sure I overspend on this hobby of mine which I still consider as a new hobby (2-3 years now?) but I once read online, "some people's hobbies are boats, some are cars, both are much more expensive then photography." I guess thats how I justify my almost 10k worth of gear that doesnt pay back a single cent.

Currently I have a 5D mk3, 24-70L mk1, 24-105L, 50L, 70-200L 2.8 IS II, despite all that Im still thinking of picking up a 24-70L mk2. My girlfriend keeps stealing my mk1 =[

Greetings all :)

I have loved the informative and polite feedback offered by everyone on this forum. You convinced me to go from a camcorder to a DSLR (60D) and now I am thinking of halting my investment into the 60D to do an upgrade.

Currently I have a 60D, Canon 50mm 1.8, Tamron 17-50 2.8, Sigma 85 2.8 lenses

I have made some great progress in filming/editing and need to learn a lot more! Just finally got my glidecam!!!

I feel though that the 60D is limited in its capability especially since I've always loved the quality of the 5D Mark II and the GH2. I think the most basic difference to me is that the 5D Mark II is better in low light and the GH2 has better image quality when properly lit, which is most of the time...

I am leaning toward the GH3, and hoping for a future hack.

I wonder what everyone's opinions are?

I am a hobbyist, love shooting adventures into NYC, interviewing/documentary, and making small videos for family etc. "filmic" style

Thanks!

18mp Sensor (Same as SL1)

DIGIC V (no one has said it will get DIGIC 6)

6.5fps

Wifi

GPS

3.2″ Touchscreen LCD (No mention of swivel)

Magnesium Alloy Construction

Weathersealed

Slightly larger than the EOS 60D

$1199 USD Body Only
