Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

Hmmm, comparing grey import prices on the R5mkii with RRP of the R6mkiii... yeah, that totally makes sense...
Of course, grey imports of the r6iii will take a while, but I'd rather compare grey import with grey import prices or RRP also with RRP.
I don't compare a price with R6 Mark III but respond: "I don't know where you can get such a price for a used R5 MK2. The only person I know that can get a price around 3200€-3300€ are Canon's employees (for a new one)." The R6 Mark III is rumoured to cost €2899. A new R5 Mark2 can be bought today in grey import for €3,070.50

Grey market ?
Sure, but from a very reliable company, Panamoz. The price was 2/3rds. of what I would have paid buying from French, German or Italian stores.
I can understand a real store with employees, situated in an expensive area, needs a higher margin. But, since I don't need a demo or any other service, I prefer to buy where I get the same items, legally, fully taxed (!!!) , at a much lower price, and a 3 years no fuss warranty.
On the other hand, if I need service or some explanations about a product, I buy where I get them. I think it's being dishonest to try on shoes in a store, only to order them online later on.

FF is not only the camera but also the system of lenses that comes with it. Initially RF-S was lens-starved, but now with the Sigma additions it has developed into a nice little system. What I mean is that I assume that the main "lure" for EF-S holdouts is RF-S. And whoever among the EF-S holdouts was susceptible to transition to FF, most of them have probably already done so, given the time since EF(-S) has been declared "dead".
Don't they have the R50 and R100 for that? We can agree that they are limited, but so are the xxxD and xxxxD cameras...
Disclaimer: I am speculating about the market and Canon's strategy, as I do not have any data or insights beyond what we all have access to
My bad.. I didn't look up the right body. R100 is much cheaper :)

as per https://personal.canon.jp/product/camera/eos/ the EOS Kiss X90 (90D) is still available new
And https://personal.canon.jp/product/camera/ef#ef-s has the EF-S10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-S24mm F2.8 STM still available plus stock on shelves with dealers.
so EF-S is not quite dead yet but definitely on palliative care.

* we are all speculating!

I like the prices I am seeing for R5 Mk2 compared to the rumored R6 Mk3 prices. Is anyone else considering the R5 Mk2 over the R6 Mk3?
That depend at what price you can get a R5 MK2 but I feel like R5 MK1, R6 MK2 and R5 MK2 are all viable alternatives to R6 Mk3 depending on your AF/MP needs and budget.
I chose the R5 MK2 due to the price I could get and the rumour of no new tilt-shift LCD mechanism for R6 MK3 (we will see if I made the right choice or not).

EF(-S) is not dead in that you can still buy new gear which is under support... but it is dead in the sense that Canon is not developing the system anymore. They may build small batches of EF(-S) gear as market requires, but large parts of the systems have been discontinued now and Canon wants you to buy RF(-S)... and I think this is more than speculation ;)

Two questions about panamoz:
1.) If my camera needs a repair (maybe after years): would I be able to send to Canon CPS? Or would I have to take elsewhere?
2.) If I have to send in my camera to panamoz, does it have to leave the country?

thx

What I know is:
- After the 3 years of Panamoz warranty, you can send the camera anywhere, including to CPS.
- Panamoz have local repair stations (often the same ones used by guess whom...) in most European countries. (France, Germany, Italy are a certainty).
I wouldn't worry at all, they are a very reliable company, even according to the internet "experts".
PS: Until now, I've saved at least Euro 3500 buying from them. (RF 100-500, R5 II, RF 15-35 f/2,8) No issues at all!

Thx for your reply. Sounds good so far.
I´m looking into them atm. I'll probably try with a lower priced lens first, then with a higher tier lens or camera. I need to make my own experience with them.

Pay attention to prices!
Some lenses, I don't know why, can cost much more than sold by conventional stores. The RF 50mm f/1,8 costs Euro 402 at Panamoz! Twice as much as what you'd pay to conventional online seller. Usually, you can save a lot on the more expensive items, not so on basic ones.

The Canon R6 Mark III will be announced in about 24 hours. I think this camera will be successful. It is a model that both seasoned professionals, amateurs and camera newbies can all appreciate. If it is priced too high then Canon will quietly reduce the price until it does pick up more volume. But I have a good feeling about this one. Sony has almost no new cameras of interest in 2025. This is the year for the others. For Lumix then Nikon, and now it is Canon's time to shine.

Panamoz never had good prices on lenses, not sure why.

The non-L lenses do not really have competitive prices but the L-lenses do.

The 6D Mark II is made out of polycarbonate resin with a few parts of magnesium alloy, with its weather sealing relying on tightly assembled plastics - it's mostly a plastic camera (I had it, I upgraded to the R6). Plastic on top, plastic at the bottom, plastic on the sides, plastic doors.

I don't buy the "love letter" story though, sorry. The R6 was released at almost 1000€ more than the 6D Mark II, here. The camera went upmarket and we paid for it.

To be honest, I've been imagining the R6s in the future will take the place the 5D DSLRs had in the market, with the R5s going to an upper level, above €5000, closer to the concept of the Sony A1. Clearly that's not happening now, but I'd say it may happen within a generation or two.

Did your 6D Mark II ever leak? (Though, again, I made the exception for build quality which includes weather resistance. And NO camera which can not be submerged in water is weather sealed. Too many talk about how "this camera has weather sealing and that camera does not have weather sealing." Unless it's an open truss telescope, all lenses have weather resistance to one degree or another, and all camera's with light boxes also have environmental barriers between the inside of the camera and the outside of the camera.)

I'm not the one that claims the R6 was a love letter. That was another user. Maybe include that in a reply to that user's comment?

In many cases the 6-Series cameras have already replaced 5-Series cameras for certain photographers. Many 5D Mark II and 5D Mark III users decided they didn't need 30+ MP and went with the 6D Mark II instead. Many more 5-Series DSLR shooters went with the R6 when the price of the R5 came in over $4K + tax in the U.S.

He is tagged in the same post, in case you missed it, so he got the notification as well, but you were the one referring to build quality.

In the meantime, an article that refers to that has been released:
