I have made one mention about an RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS VCM in the pipeline. That mention came from anonymous places, and there really isn't anything that I can confirm about its existence.

If it is a VCM, it won't be named Mark III’m curious to see if a new 24-70mm L could reduce weight and compete with Nikons offering. The UWA L lenses makes me curious as well. A possible F2 UWA zoom and maybe a UWA Z zoom come to mind. If Canon decides to release a mkii 24-70mm L, I'd imagine they'd release a 15-35mm mkii alongside it.
If it's an f/2,8, I'm quite sure it will weigh less, be more compact, and be at least as good as the one by Nikon!I’m curious to see if a new 24-70mm L could reduce weight and compete with Nikons offering. I would be excited for any type of 15-35mm successor, vcm or not. Currently a very happy 14-35 mm owner but if they manage to reduce the size and and vinjetting compared to the current 15-35 it would be perfectI’m curious to see if a new 24-70mm L could reduce weight and compete with Nikons offering. You can believe what you want, but in this case historical precedent says otherwise. There have been multiple examples where the only change was the focus motor, and the lens had the USM designation added to the name but did not have the MkII designation added (in the case of the EF 75-300/4-5.6 and EF 75-300/4-5.6 USM, both lenses were updated to a MkII then a MkIII. There was one that went the other way, the EF 90-300/4.5-5.6 USM launched then the EF 90-300/4.5-5.6 (no USM designation) launched later. Why not? If focal length, f-number and L designation stay the same, I believe they'd call it mkii.
The Ouija board says AugustYes! Fantastic rumor.
This is the lens I'm waiting for!
Please Canon sell it before July so I can take it to Iceland.
I've seen people / business (usually but not limited to in non-English native speaking countries) selling used lenses will have a photo of the less expensive version, but either write the text as the more expensive version or leave it ambiguous. Sometimes even selling a non Canon lens as a Canon L!You can believe what you want, but in this case historical precedent says otherwise.
