Is The First Canon VCM L Zooming Coming in March?

I’m curious to see if a new 24-70mm L could reduce weight and compete with Nikons offering. The UWA L lenses makes me curious as well. A possible F2 UWA zoom and maybe a UWA Z zoom come to mind. If Canon decides to release a mkii 24-70mm L, I'd imagine they'd release a 15-35mm mkii alongside it.

If it is a VCM, it won't be named Mark II

If it's an f/2,8, I'm quite sure it will weigh less, be more compact, and be at least as good as the one by Nikon! :)

Japanese site DCLife has seen a November 2025 presentation where Canon states that they want to have 100 RF lenses in the medium term. At the end of 2025 the number was 64, including the 7 cinema RF lenses. The post does not have a roadmap or list of lenses.
This will take 4-5 years releasing 6-8 lenses per year.

I love my weather sealed, full-time manual focus override, EF 24-70 f/4 L with close focus for travelling around. I'd seriously consider the upgrade if Canon could tick those boxes once again but for RF. And if it just happened to be 2.8 but in the same price efficiency range as the EF 4 vs EF 2.8 of the same era then so much the better!

I would be excited for any type of 15-35mm successor, vcm or not. Currently a very happy 14-35 mm owner but if they manage to reduce the size and and vinjetting compared to the current 15-35 it would be perfect 👌

Why not? If focal length, f-number and L designation stay the same, I believe they'd call it mkii.
You can believe what you want, but in this case historical precedent says otherwise. There have been multiple examples where the only change was the focus motor, and the lens had the USM designation added to the name but did not have the MkII designation added (in the case of the EF 75-300/4-5.6 and EF 75-300/4-5.6 USM, both lenses were updated to a MkII then a MkIII. There was one that went the other way, the EF 90-300/4.5-5.6 USM launched then the EF 90-300/4.5-5.6 (no USM designation) launched later.

Whatever happened to the already leaked 20-50mm f4 Z lens? That seems like it would be next and coming very soon.

I LOVE my 24-105mm f2.8, but it is huge. If they can make a 700-800 gram 24-70mm f2.8 VCM Z, I would probably swap it out. But I do love that last 35mm...

I really wish they would have put IS in the VCM primes. So that's what I want - a cine-like series of primes with IS - even if they were f2. I just want a more professional build. I can't stand the cheap feeling f1.8/2 lenses.

I've seen people / business (usually but not limited to in non-English native speaking countries) selling used lenses will have a photo of the less expensive version, but either write the text as the more expensive version or leave it ambiguous. Sometimes even selling a non Canon lens as a Canon L!

"I have been told that we will see a “wide angle zoom” L VCM lens announced at some point in March."
"I wasn't told what the focal range is going to be. What constitutes a “Wide angle” lens can mean different things to different people."
It could well be a 20-50mm F4 L VCM Z.

The 20-50mm patent seems to show a fairly large focusing group that could require VCM:- https://www.thephoblographer.com/20...ens-patents-could-challenge-tamron-and-sigma/

Several ppl mentioning Nikon and competing with it's version and making the lens lighter.
While I'm all in for lighter quality lenses and 675g Nikon is indeed considerably lighter than the 900g Canon, let's realize Nikon is lacking IS.
If we get a 800g IS version, we should be veeery happy.
