Show your Bird Portraits

I have not been around here in a while, but I have still been taking pictures. Last Friday, we had 5 American Flamingos show up in Wisconsin!!! These birds have been showing up in the southern and eastern US states from hurricane Idalia. Until Friday, the farthest north they had been seen was in Indiana. This was likely a once in a lifetime experience for Wisconsin. I'm still using the 7D mkll & EF600 f4 ll. I did not need the 1.4x lll, as they were so close to us.

Jeremy
Welcome back, Jeremy!
Really nice photos you could get from this "once in a lifetime opportunity".
I hope the hurricane season won't get too strong.

Nuthatch yesterday. R5 + 100-500mm, iso 10,000. Small crop from the centre with no extra noise reduction. I don't like less than 1/500s as here for these small birds as they do twitch and blur. I do like these Nuthatches on sides of trees facing down.

These from today. I like the pose and what the wind is doing there of the Waxbill feathers in the first photo best! I didn't got the right focus point! The last 4 photos of the Night Heron are for any one willing to make a GIF from them - I have no program for this... And I don't care about the authorship.

Thanks guys. I'm in a deep hole trying to take care of many things and just haven't been able to prioritize photography, which annoys me considerably! I can't even remember where I left off posting but winter is coming so acreage life will slow down.
wow good job on that swallow in flight.. they're crazy fast movers and change directions quick

Today we went in the Zoo with a friend who was saying just few days ago he witnessed 4-5 Black Saddlebags. I really would like to make good photos of that dragon and I took the bait. Not only the "bags" were missing but in total there were very little dragons flying + in that strong wind it was nearly impossible to get a reasonable photo. Switched to the regulars and later to the duck poll where two male Mandarins were trying to capture the attention of the females. These are my favorite ducks (well, for Thanksgiving I also prefer a duck over any other bird but it's not the same species)!

Turkey vulture yesterday late afternoon in the trees in our back alley. I've never seen one before outside of pictures. There were probably 6 or 7 of them. I tried unsuccessfully to get one in flight but I couldn't lock on in time. Graceful birds in flight but they're ugly and live a disgusting lifestyle. Still, they help keep the environment a bit cleaner. _66A7650_DxO-topaz-sharpen.jpg

Good shot of an unattractive bird. The look on his(?)face gives me the impression that he is sadly aware of his lot in life.

Certainly not a beautiful bird, but it is a nice shot, dpc.

I think I'll call that photo "mixed living community".
It's the first time that I could get four different species (five individuals) so close together on one photo.
(maybe except for some winter feeding place ;))
The first one to get all five gets my thumb up (y) ;)
