October should be a busy announcement month for Canon, and we should see them before the PhotoPlus show begins on October 21, 2015 in New York City.

Below is a list of what we’re told will be announced in October (This list may not be complete):

ImagePROGRAF Pro-1000 17″ printer

PowerShot G16 replacement

PowerShot S120 replacement

EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM

A second EF-M lens

What we don’t have information on yet, but could be coming:

A DSLR announcement, though I wouldn’t expect a major release

A new EF-S lens

More EOS M announcements

Lots more to come…

The M15-45 would be more interesting if I didn't have the M11-22 and M18-55. The other M lens, I'd guess a macro or a superzoom (18-200?), although I'd prefer something like an M50/2 IS.

I think it's rumored that it's a pancake collapsible zoom - which may certainly be of use even if you have the rest of the lenses.

the fact that the zoom end is f/6.3 sniffs like a pancake zoom.

if it's a good performer at 15mm though it should be a nice lens. usually those zooms suffer badly at the wide end.

I'm thinking either a 50mm, or a 60mm macro STM for the other lens. I'm thinking the 50mm just because canon just did an STM design for that on the EF mount and they did actually have a patent for a 50mm mirrorless lens out there from a long time ago.

IMO though the 60mm macro would be a well served lens though, the EF-S 60mm is one sweet little lens.

what we really need is for canon to do what they did for EF mount; quickly release the "standard primes" 24/2.8,28/2.8,35/2,50/1.8,85/1.8 of normal "fast" aperture, not the L's.

then maybe something like the 17-55/2.8 EF-M.

then for the most part .. people will STFU.

even though i wouldn't really buy any of those for the M..

perhaps canon also needs to slide sigma a few yen to kick up the DN series on the M - it's simply a electronics and mount adapter plate change for sigma.

EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM

F6.3 for a 45mm lens is a joke, put it on a crop sensor and you end up with maybe three stops of usable aperture and very little in the way of dof control.

I like the focal length but the aperture is way too slow, I don't see why a constant f4 would be over large for an APS mirrorless design. They give us one of the best sensors available per camera size and then cripple it with only one decent lens, the 22 f2.

Here's hoping that it will be my EF-M 85/2.8 IS STM, sharp as hell, apochromatic :P, as compact as a fullframe Pentax 77/2.4 ... and dirt cheap ... say € 299 ... built to order just for me. :-)

Come on, it's at least *two* decent lenses, there's no way you can say the EF-M 11-22mm isn't decent. In fact it's much more than that.

Otherwise, I for one am very much ready to give up DOF control for a lens that is small and has good IQ. So Canon, make that 15-45 as small as you can without compromising too much optically, and you have a lens that will come with me on many travels.

I wouldn't know, the 11-22 is another variable aperture slow lens, f4 is OK'ish given the design theme of small, but f5.6 at 22mm is not OK AFAIAK. It wouldn't be difficult or bulky to make that 11-22 f4, then it might be worth a look, but the truth is f4 is a big compromise on a smaller sensor and as slow as I am interested in going, invariably you have to push the iso when you lose light and then the noise creeps in, and you have so little dof control.

So far I have one lens for my little M, the 22 f2.
