300 2.8L lens cover fit question

I have the old 300 2.8 L USM (the NON-IS) lens, and my question is - does the E-145C lens cover currently on sale for the 300 2.8L IS2 fit on my lens? Based on the numbers, the E-145C might fit but have a somewhat loose fit on my 300 2.8 NON-IS lens. Anyone tried?

EF 300 2.8 L -
lens cap E-137
lens hood ET-118 / ET-118 II

EF 300 2.8 L IS -
lens cap E-145
lens hood ET-120

EF 300 2.8 L IS II -
lens cap E-145C
lens hood ET-120(W II)

I haven't tried, but I just measured the lens hood & cover for the IS Mk-II: the outside diameter of the lens hood is 142mm. The Lens Cover seems slightly bigger, but is held snug by the adjustable velcro.

No, they will not fit the older lens.

You used to be able to purchase third party caps. I think some found Tupperware lits that snapped on rather than the pull over hood affair. I made a leather slip-on cover for my old Nikon 300mm f/2.8 by sewing a leather cap to fit to fit it, It was a little complex, since I lined it with velvet to keep it from scratching.

Contact Don Zeck and see if C2 caps are still available
