Well I personally am about to pick up a 5dII. Coming from an xti, Im more than confidant that it will be a great upgrade in all aspects. Much greater than a jump from 5dII to 5DIII. However, what I wonder is, if this camera is announced end of the month. Will we see the 5DII dip below 2000 again? I feel like I should wait a few more weeks to find out..

I have said it elsewhere and I am confident that they could easily reprice the 5D2 at $1999 retail price and continue to sell boatloads of them for another year or 2
I expect the new one to come in around $3000 hopefully a bit less :) thats a big difference to someone that want to get in at the ground floor of full frame.
The other benefit canon gain by keeping the 5D2 around as the entry level FF is keeps more people on the hook for the addictive full frame L glass and helps creat more L addicts. I expect they would keep the 5D2 around for this reason alone the fact that they can still make piles of cash just selling the bodies even though they have been superceeded will be pure gravy.

2012 is shaping up to be a very expensive year for photographers :( :'(

The time to buy the 5D MK II was in December. Canon was desparately trying to meet sales quotas for the end of the fiscal year. (They had a terrible 4th quarter). Prices are now going up, they were under $2,000 with a $100 or more of freebies thrown in.

Historically, prices of a popular old model can rise once the new model comes out, and people realize that it costs $800 more, and start buying up the last of the old stock. Prices will drop for used ones after a few months.
