From POTN

Over a POTN there is a thread talking about a “1D X Successor”, basically a “slower 1DX”. Judging by the rumored price of $4000 AUD, I wouldn’t think it’s an “EOS-1″ body, perhaps a large megapixel camera above the 5D Mark III.

I believe we’ll only see one new full frame camera in 2012, unless something gets announced at the end of 2012 for availability in 2013.

Very interesting, as long as it also comes with a significant bump in the dynamic range department.

High MP cameras = aimed towards landscapers, and what do landscapers need above all else? Dynamic range.

Well, maybe not "above all else", but you get my point. :p

Folks, I posted paragraph as follows in 5D MkIII price drop thread, actualy this belongs here more. Please see below and comment. Thank you, Raj

"I hope Canon learned their lesson, you can not count on glory of the past, both 5D and 5D MK-II were continous break through but 5D III did not continue the expected tradition of big breakthrough, despite the fact it is a very good general purpose camera, in addition they raised price too high adding insult to injury. I believe the price drop is reflection of buyers power. we are hoping the new camera will at minimum keep or improve good features of 5D MK III and fill in the deficiencies, of better dynamic range, more pixels to meet the need to landscape and studio photographers, uncompressed HDMI output and may be 16 bit color depth, who knows.
Folks, please comment what would you like to see in new camera. Thank you,"

I don't understand how a "slower 1DX" at 4000 dollars is supposed to compete against a D800 for 3000 dollars?
I'm sure die hard Canon users will be happy to have a high MP offering to choose from, but from an outside observer Canon seems to be about a year behind Nikon and with a significantly higher price(and lower DR.)
As a Canon user, the news lately isn't exciting, more just depressing as Canon seems to mostly be matching Nikon's products a year later and at higher prices.
