From Sebastian Wiegartner

German filmaker Sebastian Wiegärtner has spent some time with the new Canon C300 and compares its noise performance against the Sony F3. At the end he also throws in the Canon 7D for good measure.

from Wiegartnerfilms

I like the form factor of the C300, wow, what a bummer. But I also like the superb image out of my Sony F3 with S-Log and the ability shooting 4:4:4 1080p with 60 frames per seconds. You can get a Sony F3 with S-Log for €13,900 in Europe (without external recorder full set incl. KiPro recorder costs you €14,400), of course more expensive than the C300, but you can upgrade later if you need 4:4:4 or S-Log for a project. Personally I want to own both of these great cameras!

Anyone know the bitrate on the Sony with S-Log?

The onboard recorder (XDCAM CODEC) uses Variable Bit Rate so it will change depending on the content.
In HQ mode the maximum bit rate it can record is 35 Mb/s.

However the real idea with the F3 is to record with an external recorder.
It has dual link HDSDI out.
So the bit rate depends on the recorder.
For example with the Convergent Design Gemini you can record uncompressed, so the bit rate would be in the region of 130 MB/s (Bytes not bits).

No, I do mean Bytes per second.

Uncompressed 10-Bit 4:4:4 video (which is RGB) is probably a lot more data that you are used to if you are used to compressed formats, if you know what I mean.

Have a play with this calculator:

http://lab.rarevision.com/uncompressed_calc/

AJA have some nice calculators for this sort of thing also.

The camera is just spewing out the video through dual link HDSDI (which from memory is 3G too on the F3).
So it's probably easier for the camera to do this data rate than to compress and record it on the fly.
