Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

May that 45mm take my money

I was expecting at least €799 to €1099

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see about its performance but, as long as it performs decently by f/1.8, I may consider replacing my 35 and 50 with it.

By the way, judging by the dimensions mentioned in the patent, could such a lens perhaps use the same housing as the 24 and 35mm?

Canon EOS R6 Mark III Specifications
...
Price €2899
So specs as expected.
Interesting to see the price in € first, I hope this is incl. VAT, as I see the 99 at the end.
Otherwise, the German price would be €3449 and that would be

Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM €599
That'll be a very interesting price (incl. VAT). This could become my first f/1.2 lens :ROFLMAO:

Holy shit... if pricing for the RF45mm F1.2 stands, I´m might (just might) sell the recently purchased RF 50mm F1.4 VCM... it'll probably depend on how fast it focusses... I bet IQ is more than acceptable. Built quality wouldn't be a big issue for me because I'd rarely (never) use it in demanding conditions.

Nice to see/ hear the RRP of the R6mkiii hasn't changed compared to the mkii.

It is a quite simple Double-Gauss design.
And for that price don't expect a built better than the RF16 STM and the AF to be either slow.
But hey, it's f/1.2

I expect a very similar lens design to the existing 24 and 35mm primes: external focus, non-weather sealed, maybe even reusing the same body. Which is not bad at all...i just hope it will have decent AF speed.

This is likely the design, and it's a lot shorter than the VCM prime lenses. Short and stubby I think.

I would keep the 50 mm f1.4 VCM. It is a L series lens.

Great to have a cheap RF f1.2 lens but I am struggling to understand canon’s market segmentation for it.

50 1.2L for the photographers, 50 1.4L for the hybrid/content, 50 1.8 for the budget. 45 f/1.2 (not calling it 50 is smart) filling in a big gap between the 1.8 and 1.4. 50mm lenses sell by the boatload.

Also a valiant effort to get people to pre-order/buy both at the same time.

What a spec: 40fps, 32MP, OpenGate, PreCapture
Could replace both my R5ii and R3, if AF is top notch, tropicalisation, grip available, ergonomically at least as good as R5ii, DynamicRange and Noise between R5ii and R3, rolling shutter as fast as R5ii, panning assist, ultra high speed burst as per R3 (even R1 does'n have it). OK my dream is a baby R3 with today tech.
Or please Canon
- release an R3ii with such specs, or at least propose a R3 firmware with PreCapture (I am (as many) ready to pay for it).
- implement OpenGate on R5ii
