Will be interesting, what sensor it gets.

The AF system should be the same as the one of the 200D/SL2.

it's usually the garbage bin of cameras

hard to say really.

Canon did seem to be quite proud of moving the entire camera line to DPAF.
To me it could be really possible that Canon finally dumps the 18 MP APS-C sensor and gives this cam the 24 MP sensor.
Truely hard to believe, but then they could use the same assembly of sensor+AF+pentamirror as they use in the 200D/SL2. We'll see...

that was my thought too - but then again this camera is sold with lenses in it's lifecycle for a few hundred bucks.

I was going to say that this would be the last camera to use Canon's old sensor fabrication process, but I guess the 6D2 is also carrying that legacy forward so they'll be using those for some time longer.

I'm guessing they take the sensor out of the T6i/750D, which is 24MP but does not have the on-chip ADC.

The great thing about Canon releasing a new one is the old bodies go on a fire sale, for less than $400 it's still one of the best cameras you can get.

design rules / fab process and ADC aren't that closely related. ADC can't happen most likely without, however, for a DPAF sensor, it most likely has to be new fab process / design rules regardless.

Or DPAF. But even the Hybrid AF system is a massive improvement compared to the contrast-detect only 18MP sensor.

ummm. the 18mp sensors has Hybrid AF.
Some had, some had not!

While the 18 MP sensor of the 100D/SL1 had it the 18 MP of the 1300D/T6 had not (coming from the 7D that haven't had it either).

Yep! My 60D sure doesn't. The 650D in 2012 was the first 18MP body to sport Hybrid AF (and indeed the first Canon body to have it) but it still hasn't trickled down to the poor 1x00D line.

correct. I should have been more concise. the 18mp sensor went through several generations of Hybrid AF.
