<p>We’re told to expect a replacement to the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889965-REG/Canon_PowerShot_SX50HS_Digital_Camera.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">PowerShot SX50 HS</a> in the spring for an early summer launch. Apparently this camera sells better in the spring and summer than it does in the winter.</p>
<p>We’ve seen a patent for a <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2013/12/whos-ready-for-a-100x-zoom-powershot/" target="_blank">100x zoom lens for a compact camera</a>, perhaps we’ll see such a lens in the new big zoom PowerShot camera.</p>

I bought a SX50 last year, but returned it. I had issues holding and operating it with my large hands and greatly reduced feeling in my finger tips. The zoom was too fast as well, it needs a 2 speed zoom.
Otherwise, it was a good camera. I'd buy a replacement that had a touch screen, because that's what I'd need to operate it. A 100X zoom seems a bit overboard, would such a lens get bigger and longer?

Odd thing.

I've been shooting some video lately, and it's a pain because I've been using my wife's SX260, which is 25-500mm equivalent, but has no viewfinder, just the LCD.

So I went looking for a camcorder, what with their long optical zooms and dedicated video functions. First thing I did at B&H was select "electronic viewfinder" under "features".

You know what? Not one of them has more than a 12x zoom lens built in unless it has no viewfinder. Not one, at any price. And the ones that do have an EVF start around $900.

So, I've used an SX50 that I have at work, and it or its replacement is starting to sound like a nice video camera, especially since I do a lot of shooting at airshows and model airplane airshows where the wide focal length range is really helpful.

I think it's really odd that a still camera has a bigger sensor, a far wider optical zoom range, and at half the price compared with camcorders that have EVFs.

The current SX50 is a great camera. I would like to see in a new version:
1. Dual pixel technology for faster AF.
2. Larger viewfinder.
3. Touchscreen.
4. Mode dial lock so that my wife doesn't set to self-timer every time she picks it up.
5. An increase in maximum aperture to lower diffraction limitation.

Your wife is not the only person with that problem... I am forever setting it to 2 seconds shutter delay.....
