Here at CR, many people complain that there is excess Canon entry level models. The grass always seems greener on the neighbor's side. ... The market regulates itself according to supply and demand. It's easy to Canon and Nikon know the current inventory at stores like Adorama and BH, but the small shops who import illegally unknown there old stock. When new models are released, these small shops NOT offer immediately to the buyer, it has to first get rid of the old models. My friends in the USA are complaining on a full stomach. They feel bad to have many model options.

All official stock from Canon South Africa ... scroll through ... they're still trying to sell EOS 600D cameras!

I like the 500D, myself. Is that the entry level camera body, or the close-up lens? :

In this aspect, Canon really annoys your customers. Why the same camera has 3 diferrentes names in different countries? :-X EOS 450D is the same XSi, and even Kiss (something I do not remember). :-\ Nikon does not this bullshit.

When Canon brought out the AE-1, AT-1, AV-1, A-1 & AE-1 Program they revolutionised photography now they are way behind Sony, Panasonic and Olympus in innovation and are openning up the market to new entrants possibly from China. Who ever made this decision is an idiot.

Anonymous people are always trashing Canon on online forums, imagining that Canon is "way behind". In reality, Canon is doing just fine ... and helping photographers make great photos.

If this camera were listing for $199'ish (US) body only or $299-$399 kit maybe I could see the sense.

Why don't you tell us how they can sell it for $199. I could see the "sense" of that if bankruptcy is the goal.
