Generally, replacement bodies have held the new price of the model they replaced, or dropped slightly. It all depends on the competition and the cost of manufacturing the body.

Canon is very good at working the tradeoffs to get the best possible performance for the lowest cost to manufacture. This has been their main strength for the past 50 years. They are able to price their cameras competitively and have a much larger profit margine than the smaller competitors. Thats why sony is feared so much by Canon and Nikon, because Sony can build for even less. Sony merely fails to capitolize on their advantage due to shoddy management. They drop support for models after a couple of years, and just infuriate serious photographers. If they get their act together, they could easily be on top, but it will take a few years of better customer support to convince me.
