RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM

I suspect the profile isn’t marking those areas as ‘out of frame, paint it black’, which means it tries to stretch the neighboring pixels to fill it.

I wonder if Adobe is experimenting with having generative AI fill in those black borders and forgot to turn on the settings for the ‘dumb’ border algorithm.
How does Canon's DPP rendering look? First day I had the 10-20mm, DPP looked fine, but the corrections wouldn't just transfer with RAWs to LR Classic.

Some images from Italy (Central Alps and Rome) taken with the new king of wides :giggle: at least in terms of field of view.

Some of the images are single shots, some are panoramas. It is funny how, no matter how wide a lens I have, sooner or later I find myself wanting wider for some shot :ROFLMAO:

A few considerations:

  • Loved size and weight: it's no effort to carry around and even my 10yo daughter was comfortable holding it on the R5+battery grip
    • added bonus: she found it funny and wanted to take photos of us and me to take photos of her, which is an increasingly rare occurrence nowadays
  • It's well built and does not feel cheap
  • Not a huge fan of the lens cap - it takes a while to mount sometimes
  • The lens is sharp and cannot fault its image quality
  • I guess, as photographer, 10mm is fun but, ultimately, too wide in most circumstances - difficult to achieve a good composition without too many unwanted elements in
  • 20mm is a much more versatile fl, especially if people are involved
  • Panoramas are doable at 20mm but at 10mm you get in iffy land... too much distortion
All in all, I will keep it, but it is a niche lens for me - I really really want the 35mm f/1.2L as some of you may recall

Latest update to LR has corrected the 24-105 2.8 issue!

I've had more practice correcting the distortion and vignetting. Here I've used LR CC's RF 14-35mm profile to start, and then expanded with the distortion slider until I was just at the limits of where the lenshood petals are visible. If you've seen Fro's video about this lens, you know that without correction it captures slightly more than 10mm.

Vignette, exposure, contrast, and sharpness slightly corrected in LR CC--globally, without selective editing.

A couple from Glacier 3000 during a trip to Les Diablerets, Switzerland. Sun broke through sometimes, but the ~3000 m peaks with the bridge between them were mostly in the clouds.

I am historically awful with ultra-wide angle lenses, but I decided to rent the RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM for my current trip to Scotland. I haven't had any landscape opportunities with family and all, but I head to St Andrews tomorrow and I'll definitely get out and do that coast line. This is just a standard in a museum image, but I think I may have to buy one of these lenses and spend a lot of time with it and find some inspiration from people that are good with these sorts of lenses.
