Show your Bird Portraits

Very nice with the snow in the background.
100% agree! And the warm color from the sun light is adding to it!
Thanks guys.
I thought the same way: white bird + white snow = should look great.
TBH, that one was at bright midday, as I right now have sunlight on the ponds only at that time.
So I tweaked the WB a bit, setting it to "shadow". And I think it isn't so wrong, because the egret was in the shadow.
But that adds the warm colour to the sunny parts.
This is how the second pic looks like with AWB. The upper one is "my" setting.
I re-posted it for direct comparison. (I know why I prefer RAW files ;) )

I love these shots, It is odd for me to see egrets in snow, since they are gone from here way before snow.

I am also a bit surprised that they come to my region as their residence.
That is the "positive" effect of climate change, as they normally go further south in the winter.
They normally leave sometime around April again.

I was in Hawaii for 2 weeks in October. First time there so most birds were new to me. I was able to find 8 endemic birds and photograph 6 of them. Lighting was always extremely tough though, with harsh shadows from branches and leaves or birds half in the light and half in the dark. Photos taken with 7D mkll / EF600 f4 ll / 1.4x lll

One of my favorite local American Kestrels who at times really seems to ham it up for the camera.

Concerning the light conditions: welcome to Hawaii:)! In the Common birds section - one mistake :))): Yellow-billed Cardinal, the ID off course is right (as I always expect from you!) but I have never seen it alive - it exist only on Big Island (forget photos :()! Nice shots and I didn't know you are going to make the full circle in Hawaii - it's the best decision

As always so many wonderful photos!

I found a link from the US Fish and Wildlife Service regarding the barred owl out competing the spotted owl and some other problems. They want to do a culling but are giving the opertunity to make comments on it.

This has been going on for many years. The Barred Owl is considered invasive to the Pacific NW. They are thriving out there, though. They have tried to thin the population for quite some time, unsuccessfully. I'm sure this will get huge push back, even though it may be needed to save another species.

As Jeremy noticed: all the same! The first Night Heron is kind of strange: not juvenile and not an adult. They use to molt differently but I can't recall any thing as lacking contrast as this one. Next one is the typical juvenile! And Yellow-faced Canary - now I know what they use for nest building (I have never seen a nest of these guys!).
And just a Red-vented Bulbul.
