Yesterday, a Peregrine was reported hunting a Snipe in the local nature park. But, the Snipe escaped. Today, it was being guarded by a Cormorant in breeding plumage. (R5ii +200-800mm)

Nice photo! Me thinks the Cormorant took a little bit risky duty :): if there is no better prey the Peregrine may take it down!

The Sparkling Violetear is one of five species of hummingbird in the genus Colibri. They are characterized by patches of violet feathers, auriculars, covering the ear openings, hence their name. Large and fiercely territorial, these hummingbirds raise these patches when signaling to or fighting with others. This individual was photographed while birding at Reserva Natural Retorno del Colibrí, Colombia, November, 2025.
