Day two (same two hummingbird species) with the M6 MkII & adapted EF 70-300II IS @ 300 (x1.6)--in an effort to get flying birds (six inches from the feeder ;)) while testing the limits of the kit (in my hands). The data for each image can be seen via the download.

...a nice image (broad-billed hummingbird) with lots of color; ISO 1600 and 1/800 sec:

Most of our hummers took a vacation, but this little guy (Anna's male) is still hanging out enjoying the free food. Very dark down in the brush. R7 with 200-800 @800mm f/9 and 1/80 second @ ISO 6400 handheld. The stabilizer works really well on that lens.

At the 4-5m distance you are using, and filling much of the frame, shake is less obvious and you can get away with such low speeds.

True, but the keeper rate under these conditions is still much higher than the 800/11 (which is quite good from an IS perspective).

I saw several Bald Eagles in and around Sax-Zim Bog, while up there. These particular three were eating on a deer carcass in the median of the highway. 7D mkll / EF 600 f4 ll / 1.4x lll. Because I edited so many photos from my recent vacation, I'll just share a link to a huge gallery I created versus posting individually here, if you don't mind.

Beautiful album. Lots of interesting creatures. I especially enjoy magpies. They have an even more warped sense of humor than ravens.

Thank you! I love their loud song and calls. Sound exotic to me, maybe because I never see them.

But the 800 11 gets there with an extension tube .
Canon does not make extension tubes for the RF mount and neither does Sony for its E-mount or Nikon for Z. Extension tubes affect the cameras calculation of lens focal length for IBIS - users in systems that allow manual input for calculating IBIS have to work out for themselves what focal length to use when adding extension tubes. So, when you are using a 3rd party extension ring with your 800/11 on your R7, you are screwing up the interplay of the camera and lens image stabilizations. I wonder if this is one reason why Canon/Nikon/Sony are not making these tubes and it is inadvisable to use them when IBIS is turned on with telephotos.

At first I thought, OH NO! The eagle is hurt!
Then I realized the eagle must have been a messy eater...

Always great photos from everyone that inspire me to work harder to improve my mediocre photos!
