Two New Lenses, Including an RF 85mm f/1.4L VCM Coming September 9

Finally a good news. I like VCM, and 85mm would be nice to have. Hopefully not too expensive.
I was excited about the C50, but now less and less. Seems to me like an R6c. I hope to be in the wrong.

I keep reading “replacement” for the R5C but don’t think the article author understands what replacement means.

How can a 4K camera (even from a 6K sensor) that may not shoot photos replace a hybrid 8K hybrid camera.

That’s like saying the C80 is a replacement for the R5C. They are very different things.

I shoot 8K immersive 180 footage for Vision Pro with my R5C , can I buy this replacement camera and do the same?

Doesn’t seem like it. So how is it a replacement ?

Yes! Finally the 85mm F1.4 L VCM is coming! Now I have to decide whether I'll go for the 50mm or the 85mm. Great choices :) Probably 50mm because I have the 85mm F2 and it works well and only shows weaknesses in low light. If possible, I might swap it at one point.

The VCM line-up seems complete, except for the glaring hole that is the 28mm F1.4. Maybe, just maybe, they'll also be able to add a 100mm F1.4. I don´t believe a 135mm F1.4 would fit the size of the VCM lenses.

I will autobuy the 85 and still keep the 50!

My theory has always been, that the primary reason for Canon to make the R5C, was because they needed a portable/compact and "affordable" 8K videocamera for their VR180 lenses/ecosystem (where 8K/highres is important). So yes, I totally agree. C50 doesn't sound like an R5C replacement from what we have heard so far.

Since we're filling gaps, why not a 65 f/1.4 to fill the gap between 50 and 85? Also, a 100 f/1.4 would have to have a 71mm front element minimum. All the rest of the VCM lenses use 67mm filters.

I started with the wide ones and very happy with them. Now aiming for the 85. I had similar dilemma with the 35. I had the F1.8 and had to think twice on the VCM. If you are a fast shooter like me, get VCM.

I secretly hope that 11-55 will be aps-c and not FF. 2.8 all the way
I think that would be an impressive lens indeed. Personally, I don't see this being a FF lens with this kind of zoom range. An 11mm lens on full-frame is still pretty exotic. The EF 11-24 and RF 10-20mm f/4 zooms are incredible, but stretching out beyond 24mm seems unlikely if they want to cover a full-frame image circle.

Haha, sounds great! :) At least, 65mm would be something absolutely new and a creative choice. How about a 43mm to mimic the human eye and "close the gap" between 35 and 50mm? :)

I also own the 35mm F1.8. I usually use it for landscapes or as a walk around lens and it performs well. Of course, I am not shooting "fast" with it. I´d love to add a fast prime though for family shots/ everyday play and so on and so forth. I'll probably start with the 50mm F1.4 VCM. I rented it recently and I absolutely loved it (not the price tag in Germany though). The 50mm F1.2 is great too, but don´t usually shoot f1.2 and the weight concerns me. VCM lenses are a great compromise for me.
