Sony doesn't really have any "innovative & unique glass". FE 50-150mm F2 GM & FE 14mm F1.8 GM maybe?
Hmm, I wouldn't say that. The 200-600mm was innovative at the time being. Also the 12-24mm F2.8 was a worlds first (or so Sony marketing made me believe?). There is one little detail on a Sony lens that I find "innovative". The max magnification on the Sony 70-200mm f/4 G II Macro is .5 and with 2x teleconverter it is even 1.0.
Canon has more "innovation" in the RF lineup that Sony. The VCM lineup is innovation. The 28-70 f/2 was innovative, it needs a diet for V2. The 100-300 2.8, those f/11 prime lenses, the 85 DS, The 100-500 and the UD front element, the 5.2mm dual lens fisheye, and they have huge glass.
I wouldn't count the amount against each other. I think they are innovative in different ways. Sony is extremely good in finding innovative ways to trim weight. Canon was innovative with the RF 28-70mm F2, Sony too by trimming it significantly. My prediction is Canon will match it and a few years later Sony will release a 24-70mm F2 and so on and so on...
Whether any of those fit what you want is a different thing.
Agreed, fit what you want or need is important. Take the 70-200mm F4 offerings for a quick comparison:
Sony: 0.5 max magnification, internal zoom, weight: 795gr.
Canon: 0.28 max. magnification, external zoom, weight: 695gr.
There are a lot of people who opt for Sony versions, but there are also a lot of people who opt for Canons version. And then there are those who want the best of both worlds and want all the good features in one lens threatening to leave Sony or Canon blah, blah...
We have great choices, but choice nonetheless means you gotta choose and live with or without certain features. I chose Canon and sticking with the e.g. I´d stick with Canon again because size and weight are very important for me. I don´t need or want an internal zoom, love the collapsible design and I prefer Canons offering even though I don't have .5 max magnification. No need to whine.
PS: I never liked the EF 70-200mm versions... too bulky, the collapsible RF version made me fall in love with this standard zoom.
