Two New Lenses, Including an RF 85mm f/1.4L VCM Coming September 9

A 11-55mm f2.0 would pair so well with a 50-150 f2.0 like the Sony GM one but I think I'm just dreaming... It would most probably be a f2.8 or f2.8-4.0
I'm afraid it will be an affordable lens, rather f/4 to f/6,3...
Developing a high quality 11-55 f/2 would be a very difficult task for optical engineers, but even more for your bank account...
But let us dream: The 11-55 f/2 + 70-200 Z + extender + TSE is all I would ever need for travel.

My theory has always been, that the primary reason for Canon to make the R5C, was because they needed a portable/compact and "affordable" 8K videocamera for their VR180 lenses/ecosystem (where 8K/highres is important). So yes, I totally agree. C50 doesn't sound like an R5C replacement from what we have heard so far.
Thank you! I keep hearing it’s a replacment and feel like I’m going crazy.

It seems like a great smaller C80 and a fine camera in its own right but that’s something new. It’s not replacing anything.

Depending on price, that 85/1.4L might be a nice addition to the lens lineup. Although as time goes on, I've come to the realization that I am not a portrait photographer so that might not be of much value to me.

This 11-55 sounds interesting. It would be a really nice focal length range for a crop body, especially with a relatively fast aperture, say f/2.8. Making it full frame though - that would mean big and expensive. Still useful on both formats, but mucho$$$.

Yes! Finally the 85mm F1.4 L VCM is coming! Now I have to decide whether I'll go for the 50mm or the 85mm. Great choices :) Probably 50mm because I have the 85mm F2 and it works well and only shows weaknesses in low light. If possible, I might swap it at one point.

The VCM line-up seems complete, except for the glaring hole that is the 28mm F1.4. Maybe, just maybe, they'll also be able to add a 100mm F1.4. I don´t believe a 135mm F1.4 would fit the size of the VCM lenses.
Let me help you: You need both! ;)

Can the R5c be discontinued while the dual fisheye is still being sold?
The dual fisheye is compatible with a range of cameras including the R5 R52 C400 C80 ect. But clearly it benefits most from 8K cameras.

While my use case is specific it seems to be an area canon are interested in. I don’t see canon discontinuing the R5C. The C50 certainly doesn’t replace it and neither does the R52 as while it’s 8K many of video modes are line skipped not oversampled like with the R5C.

Canon has nothing else in the line up like the R5C, there are no 8K cinema cameras to replace it.

I keep reading “replacement” for the R5C but don’t think the article author understands what replacement means.

How can a 4K camera (even from a 6K sensor) that may not shoot photos replace a hybrid 8K hybrid camera.

That’s like saying the C80 is a replacement for the R5C. They are very different things.

I shoot 8K immersive 180 footage for Vision Pro with my R5C , can I buy this replacement camera and do the same?

Doesn’t seem like it. So how is it a replacement ?
It means that there will not be an R5CII, it is the replacement in a sense that the R5C is Canon's entry level Cinema camera. 8k is simply not and most likely will not be an entry level Cinema standard resolution. The R5C is done. I sold mine and purchased the C70. My R5C for what is was without IBIS, couldn't match my C70, the C70 is on another level. I have an R5II, so the R5C was useless.

The RF 10-20 is F4 is priced at $2500. While perhaps not impossible, increasing zoom range by 150% and making it two stops faster would at least add another zero to the price.

An 85mm f/1.4 (not to mention 100 or 135mm) won't fit the size of current VCM lenses.

Happy for you but this isn’t about owning the best toy in your estimation. It’s about having options for people that want them.

The C70 doesn’t take photos and the R52 line skipped video can’t match the R5C and I can’t afford to have a camera overheat so the R5C suits me fine.

I can’t imagine it will be discontinued but I guess we’ll find out next week.

Sony introduced a tiltable EVF on it's latest Fx2. I would not be surprised if they followed up with removeable EVF on it's Fx3. After all, higher end Cinema rigs do have removeable EVFs. Cinematographers and filmmakers have requested them
Question will be, is Canon going to introduce an Fx3 competitor without an EVF accessory? Yes, I would purchase the accessory.
