Two New Lenses, Including an RF 85mm f/1.4L VCM Coming September 9

I think that would be an impressive lens indeed. Personally, I don't see this being a FF lens with this kind of zoom range. An 11mm lens on full-frame is still pretty exotic. The EF 11-24 and RF 10-20mm f/4 zooms are incredible, but stretching out beyond 24mm seems unlikely if they want to cover a full-frame image circle.

They will just make the corners black and correct it in camera

Back when the R7 and R10 were about to be released, there was a rumor of a RF-S 11-55mm F4-4.5 IS STM. Hoping it got faster to go with a higher end R7 II, but honestly, I’d buy it at that spec.

Haha a $1000 viewfinder, I won’t buy it unless it’s at least $2000. Oh and the xlr adapter should be $2500 at least!

Happy for you but this isn’t about owning the best toy in your estimation. It’s about having options for people that want them.

The C70 doesn’t take photos and the R52 line skipped video can’t match the R5C and I can’t afford to have a camera overheat so the R5C suits me fine.

I can’t imagine it will be discontinued but I guess we’ll find out next week.

Canon Rumors even mentioned the 32MP spec before taking the post down, which just adds to the mystery.

So what do you reckon, are we getting 45MP with 8K, or 32MP with 6K/7K?

Also, in the teaser video I spotted the number “52” flashing real quick. Maybe a hint at the R5 Mark II, or just a coincidence?

An 85mm f/1.4 (not to mention 100 or 135mm) won't fit the size of current VCM lenses.

I figured for the same for a 100mm or 135mm, but I thought they might be able to keep the same size for the 85mm

Haha, sounds great! At least, 65mm would be something absolutely new and a creative choice. How about a 43mm to mimic the human eye and "close the gap" between 35 and 50mm?

Go to the Sigma website and look at their cine prime lenses.

Finally a good news. I like VCM, and 85mm would be nice to have. Hopefully not too expensive.
I was excited about the C50, but now less and less. Seems to me like an R6c. I hope to be in the wrong.

Maybe it's a hint that the R5II will get those downsampled finemodes, we ask for, while getting a new level of heat metering. I'd love to see a firmware update after which I can finally fry an egg on the back of my camera while waiting for the perfect shot

I doubt they would put info about an R5 II firmware update in teaser for a new cinema camera, it would be out of place to be honest.

Canon and Apple having major releases on the same day is kind of rare… I guess tech bloggers will be busy.. Usually they are at least a day apart, if not a week.

Sounds a bit too wide-angle for full-frame. Don't you think it could be a successor of the EF-S 17-55mm?
With an equivalent of 18-88mm it might be quite useful, especially if it has a f/2.8 aperture (which I doubt).

Also secretly hoping the 11-55mm is an APS-C zoom. I remember a post in the past mentioning an 11-55mm for APS-C but I thought it was a port of the EF-M 11-22mm with a typo. This zoom range is good enough for a one-and-done lens for APS-C RF mount cameras. I hope they can keep it small and add IS. Variable aperture is ok, hoping for 3.5-5.6 but will be OK with 4.0-6.3 as well if it’s extra small.

Canon's widest CN-E lens that I can find is 14mm for S35 (14-35 T1.7). Going wider and FF for $30K seems like a good financial decision.

I did. Apparently, Sigma not only has a 65mm cine lens, they also have a 65mm F2 full frame lens (contemporary line). I did not know that, probably because it is only available for e-and l-mount. Before looking it up, I thought the Canon MP-E65mm f/2.5 1-5x Macro was the only ff 65mm lens.

Haha, just googled the lens. Apparently, it is from 1960 I started researching 65mm as well as 40mm and 43mm (there is one I found) but I won't hijacker the thread for these anymore.

The 11-55 will be an amazingly versatile lens, no matter if it's for FF or APS-C. It could be an expensive cinema lens tho.
