What happened to the SL2?

There were a number of rumours for a release this September. Any news about that? Do I just need to go ahead and get an SL1? What could you possible do differently with the SL2 than, say Wifi (a must), perhaps a titling LCD (doubt it with the t6i), smaller (is that possible), pentaprism vs mirror (only Pentax seem to get that, but I wish Canon would do it). Otherwise, I'm aching for an SL1 with the 10-18mm for hiking.

I'm also a little bit disappointed that we haven't seen a ney body yet.
But having an EOS 100D / SL1 already for about 1 year I have no urge here.

For your needs I'd say get the SL1 as cheap as it is now. And for your hikung throw in an additional 40 STM pankake. It gives you only a few gramms more but some reach and low light ability, when needed.

I suppose a SL2 / 1x0D will not come before christmas nor before spring. And then it'll cost 50-70% more than the SL1 does now. Otherwise there would have been more rumors.

I'd rather wait for new models to actually have some new technology rather than the issue a new model every year with minor changes. It would be time for a new model when they can actually have a substantial improvement.

R&D dollars at Canon and other manufacturers are getting tighter, sales are dropping. This means that the money making products (If there are any) will be getting attention. That may mean a new SL2 if its a big seller, or something else.

Don't hold your breath, I asked the Canon Reps at the Canon Expo and Photo Plus Expo in NYC and they said there is no plans for a SL2 any time soon but EOS M mirror-less is available.

I wonder why, even today we see no small camera with Dual Pixel AF. It seems quite logical to use Canon AF almost perfect (for video) as an asset to compete with mirrorless high end.

You may experience problems to dissipate heat, using the same sensor 7D Mark II ...
Or simply, Canon wants to force those who want Dual Pixel AF to pay more than $ 1,000 by a camera.

EOS M2 or even M3 (still pricey) with the EF M 11-22 UWA lens would/should handle your hiking landscape needs very well...

Its an option...

I too would be interested in seeing an SL2 hit the market with upgrades... my wife uses the SL1 + EFS 10 22 regularly for real estate.. I use it for reach and portability..

I was really hoping for an SL2, but it's looking like the new M might be the next best thing.
At least the adapter has a tripod foot, which I would use a lot.

I would get a 760D but It's basically the same price as a 70D, but worse, I should probably wait for something either cheaper or better, and ideally I want something smaller.
The 1300D will be a good choice once that comes out in two or three years...

I was hoping to get one too! The two main problems for me with the SL1 are the old sensor and old AF system. I was hoping that the SL2 would be better but alas it looks like that this camera will never make it past being more than a rumour.
