What next for Canon?

Technology in the form of smart phones, wearables, TVs etc. is still evolving as are other areas such as the smart home.
Technology in cameras has started to slow down with incremental changes rather than anything radical. Where do you think the manufacturers will go and what do you want to see that would make you upgrade.

Some thoughts:-

1. Laser focus - point a laser dot where you want the optimum focus point to be, on the screen select the area you want to be sharp i.e. hyper focal distance - The camera then adjust focus, f stop & ISO.

In this day and age, pointing a device at someone that puts a red dot on them seems...well, let's just say it's a bad idea. Not to mention that we generally want to 'focus on the eyes' which could cause retinal damage.

But a 50mm prime is so old school. Like dial up Internet. Phones with cords...and rotary dials. Operator, put me through to Klondike-1956 (a year that saw a Canon 50/1.8 and 50/1.2 launched). Don't we want Canon to make modern, trendy stuff??

if i remember right in the days of film cameras there was a sensor for were your looking and it would focus there
if anyone can explain why we dont have this on modern dslrs

As much as I enjoy a good Shark \d\d\d\d\d Camera with a lazer on it. I would look to the cell phone world for some inspiration. As much as cell phone camera's are mocked around here they do have a few cool tricks that could be appropriated.

• Accelerometers
  • Auto pano stitching for jpeg and capture of direction info + auto shutter trigger for raw post?
  • Directional shake feedback. Could help some of us perfect their technique. Something like this was talked about when the new 70-300 was being discussed
• Multi Tone Flash
  • Sure we have Gels but why not automate it and build it into the speedlight

Funny, I just got the ART 50 and it's truly amazing.....fast AF on the ol' 5D3 to boot. No AFMA needed. My only non Canon lens. I got your winky guy.....

next things from canon?

I honestly think the next "big" thing for DSLR's is hybridization of Livewiew and OVF stills photography.

the ability to choose between an EVF feed, with mirror up or a OVF through the lens experience when you wish it - or combinations of the two with "smart" OVF overlays.

I would also love to see as a "next big thing" is smart camera grips that allow for LTE / 4G transmittal with SIM card capability with the camera able to auto-send it's JPG images to facebook, instagram, flickr,etc,etc I'd also love to see a grip with a 2x500GB SSD in a RAID 1 configuration - user changable with M.2 SSD cards.
