Will Canon rise the prices in the near future?

Did anybody hear some rumor, that Canon will rise the prices for L lenses and high end bodies in the near future?

I am looking for an prime lens for birding. So I am saving some extra money to buy the 500mm from Canon, not just the 400mm DO. I received an call from an bigger pro shop shop in the near Munich, where I was looking for this lens. The salesman told me, that they got an information Canon will rise the prices for bigger lenses in the near future. The 500mm could rise from €8799 to more than €10000. The reason is the weak Euro. Is this really coming?

Its almost impossible to predict pricing changes without inside information. The Euro situation could equate to higher prices in Europe however.

Here in the US, I've been taking advantage of the favorable currency exchange with Canada to buy gear from there at significantly reduced prices. You might investigate international options.

It's not impossible but it could just as likely be that the salesman had a quota to make this month . . . I'd be surprised if Canon hiked the prices that much to be honest.

I wouldn't be surprised if European importers will find their next batches of cameras/lenses will be more expensive. I live in the UK and now look to the Euro zone for new prices as it has gone from more expensive to cheaper than the UK.
I would suggest that you look at used models or, if you really want new, then grey imports. Both my 1DX and 24-70 F2.8 L v2 are grey imports = zero issues.

Canon Europe and Canon USA pay the factory in Yen. The price they pay always varies a little, if they must pay a substantial amount more or less, they have the option to increase prices to the end user, or hold the line.

Canon USA has been dropping prices in the USA because of the relative strong dollar. They are competing with Canon Asia, since gray market importers import from Asia and sell for hundreds of dollars less due to the difference in currency values. Sometimes we in the USA can save by buying from Canada and get a unit with US/Canada warranty.
