Canon Canada has done what we knew was coming. They have redone the CPS program to come more inline with the USA and European programs.

  1. Can the original EOS-1D or 1Ds (Mark I) still qualify as one of the cameras you need for CPS?

  2. From the Canon Canada CPS website:

    Equipment requirements:
Platinum membership requires at least 2 x 5Dmkll or better cameras and 3 x L series lenses from the eligible equipment list above. Gold membership requires 2 x 40D or better cameras and 2 x L series lenses from the eligible equipment list. Members will be required at time of application to list the equipment, along with serial numbers, that they possess and intend to be covered by CPS service policies. Members are responsible for maintaining their record of equipment, adding new gear and removing retired or sold items when necessary. Products not on the members list at the time of service request will not qualify for CPS turnaround targets or rates.

  3. Staggeringly enough, the website seems to list all of the camera and lenses that qualify. It also has this…
“Please contact your CPS representative when in doubt. New products will be added to this list as they are released into the market and older products will be removed as their service life expires”

  4. One thing to keep in mind, that I learned just now after communicating with Canon Canada’s CPS, is that the equipment one lists on the application will primarily be used to determine eligibility. It’s not intended to be a complete list of your equipment.

    Therefore two points:

    – List the most impressive equipment you own.
    – Once approved you’ll be able to add all of your eligible equipment to your list.
