From Bill Wadman
Like I've said in the past, I love write ups by real people. This is a good quick read.

Thanks Bill

Just curious…. how many people cover the “Canon” badge on their cameras?

  1. I don’t cover them up, but have thought about it. If there was only a cheap easy way to cover up those silly white lenses. Marketing genius by canon tho.

  2. Covering the logo on the camera?!

What about the “Canon 5D Mark II” on the strap in big red letters! Arrrgghhh! I gave the new strap to my brother-in-law when I gave him my 20D, keeping the faded, well-worn plain “Canon Digital” strap (and that, four years ago, gave me the willies to walk around advertising, “expensive camera,” steal me!). I’m going overseas in January and I’d rather be shooting pictures rather than being a target.

I might consider blacking out the Canon logo. As Jonny Carrol said, the white lenses are obvious, but the red line on the L lens is pretty bright, too…

What I need is some silver to make my camera look like a Rebel!

  3. Back in the 1960’s, some of us got together and bought cameras from Hong Kong. We could not import them unless the badge was removed or painted black first. Sometimes, the seller would mail the badge separately so you could put it back on after you received it.

I’ve never considered painting it out, since that reminds me of the grey market, and would likely void the warranty.

There are lens covers available for many of the white lenses, so that option is always available.

I don’t use a strap, so mine just sits in the box. That may change, with the 5D being heavier than my 40D.
