First rumor!
I've been told today that internally Canon has bumped the 5D Mark III launch deadline ahead about 6 months. With the limitations of the Mark II as far as adding features via firmware (more on that in a second), Canon feels the camera needs an update to utilize the features of current dSLR's.
The email said we can rest assured that Canon will not be on a 3 year product cycle for the 5D line. The source went on to say the 3D is a myth, there are no plans for it currently. The 5D Mark III would get the full frame and 7D autofocus system and a better featureset for video.
720p & 60fps
A clarification. I'm told that Canon is omitting 720p and 60fps from the 5D Mark II firmware update. The firmware update will have the 24/25p update.

Before people start cancelling orders. I still think this is a late 2010/early 2011 camera and the rumor is CR1.

You need to focus video?? Seriously, the resolution of video means that accurate focussing of wide aperture lenses is not very critical, and perfectly compatible with the LCD’s resolution.
Liveview is not a solution to the problem of focussing f2 lenses for stills because the screen is too slow to update for a lot of typical fast lens work. It’s way faster than Nikon’s liveview, but still a long way from being instant like the optical finder. The 7D’s mandatory screen shows that Canon is giving up on manual focus, except perhaps for the 1 series. That means I will quit EOS, as manual focus is at least as important as AF for a serious photographer.

Its a nice story, but I would call it CR0.
There are some prototypes in the working, that there is no 3D in the making is simply untrue. It all about proposition.
Marketing staff has not yet decided if there will be 5DIII or 3D.
Its said to be released march/april timeframe.
That was the mentioned time frame in one of the developers meetings. Heard nothing about it anymore ever since…. (status as of early december).
