It looks like the rumors over the last few months are coming to fruition shortly. Canon will announce two camera bodies very soon alongside the recently uncovered Canon RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM.

The long rumored Canon EOS R8 will be announced, along with the Canon EOS R50. If we're going by the information in this post, the Canon EOS R8 will be full-frame and the Canon EOS R50 will be APS-C and will likely be the evolution of the EOS M system to the RF mount.

There is also another STM lens coming with these cameras, the Canon RF-S 55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM.

  1. EOS R8 for 1499, well 1500$ USD. For that price it might have some form of in body stabilisation. Or does that price come with a new sensor?
The R8 costing exactly the same as the R7 would not make a lot of sense to me.
  2. If the R8 is comparable with the R6 (I can renounce the double slot, which surely wont be there, and drive speed could be even 1fps I don't care, but not much else), my R6 will be on the market asap.
  3. Please give me the EOS R upgrade. Smaller body than the R6 but WITH top LCD. It can be slow (7fps is fine) but with IBIS. With enough buttons and dials – I don't mind the touch bar

I have never had a camera with a top LCD. What makes it such a good feature on the R and R5?
  5. Yes! A new entry-level full-frame body is coming! :) I'm so excited (but not doing the dance just yet :) )
1.499 $ sounds more like a slightly upgraded RP successor to me instead of an true R successor. Possible Canon is merging those cameras to one offering, meaning there will be no R9 (RP successor).

If the R8 is a true R successor, than...

    Please upgrade to...:
    - 8 FPS mechanical with full focusing ability... of course, more is welcome if possible at that price point.
    - better AF such as R7
    - joystick or dial instead of a Touch Bar
    - maybe IBIS --> to me, having no IBIS would not be a dealbreaker I guess

    Please keep:
    - the top dial
    - the sensor (it's old, I know, but it still renders beautiful images and could cut costs - also 30 MP is a sweet spot imho)
    - the ergonomics of the R
    - possibility to attach the BG-E22 and therefore
    - the battery (good enough for 500 pics...)
  6. I have never had a camera with a top LCD. What makes it such a good feature on the R and R5?
I actually use it a lot to check my settings while shooting or using the camera on a tripod. Also, I don't like the wheel of the R6. But that's just my personal taste.
  7. R8 hoping for IBIS, one card slot, new AF, no video time limit, uncropped 4k 30 with the 30 minute limit lifted, 10 fps, newer sensor with improved dynamic range over the RP.

Not too much to ask for $1,500 is it?

They’ve been pretty tight lipped in it since up until now, Rumors had it as another APS-C slotted between the R7 and R10.
