Firmware: Canon Cinema EOS C70 v1.0.1.1

where is the r5 update?
It looks like no one informed the marketing team that this firmware update was delayed. So they released the promo video and not the firmware update, and based on the comments to you in that thread, they don't seem to know that the firmware is not available on their own website.
Kind of embarrassing for them...

Industry News: Nikon officially announces the Nikon Z fc

Probably true, but kinda doesn't make sense without prints. At least, not to me. Everyone has their "thing", I guess.
I get prints from the digitized image from film....that way I can clean it up and fix it like you might have in the darkroom days....

I pretty much only shoot film, however, in aspect ratios I just can't shoot with digital....like my 6x17 medium format view camera....one click panos, no stitching....

I also play with 6x6 (Hassy), 6x9 (fuji), 6x12 (Ondu pinhole)...and recently I dipped my toe into 35mm....but with a Russian HorizonT swing lens pano camera.

At some point, I plan to jump into 4x5 large format photography....again, something that is beyond most digital today....

Right now, I take my film to a place not far for developing, but I bring the negatives home. I've been using Silverfast with an Epson flatbed scanner, but I"m building a rig with mostly Negative Supply gear to fix up a decently high end film negative scanner, using my GFX100 as the scanning camera.

I'm thinking on very special images that I want high resolution for printing....I might scan using pixel shift and see what a 400MP image would do for me...I'm guessing that might come close to drum scanner level?

I dunno....its all just fun....

And I've really been finding that not only are legacy lenses fun on digital, combined with actual film stock, seem to give a "feel" and I dunno...texture maybe that digital just doesn't.

Don't get me wrong, I loves me some digital...but I figure the film stuff is just another arrow in my quiver of tools for creating.

It certainly (to me) has its place.

I do plan next to get some Patterson tanks and spools and try my hand at developing my own stuff. My place does it for about $7/roll....but of late, their processes seem to give less than great results...I'm thinking maybe they haven't serviced or cleaned their equipment in awhile?

Anyway....

Optical Limits reviews RF 24-105 f/4-7.1 STM

Was it? You stated, “This light and inexpensive lens is not for those who insist on turning off the advanced electronic features the lens (or car) was designed for.” Do you honestly believe many people turn off corrections for distortion or vignetting, which all lenses exhibit to some degree? Far more likely, those who want better IQ will, if possible, use a lens with less of those aberrations, to minimize the decrement to IQ that results from correcting them.
You seem nice.

Canon to announce RF mount cinema lenses alongside the Cinema EOS C300S and Cinema EOS C500S

Will these lenses be able to use Eye AF and tracking? if so it would be crazy!
That’d be an interesting addition for solo operators but what would be more amazing is to have that focus data spit out to be able to be interpreted by various focus motor systems even on a tap to focus basis.

As long as the camera themselves are RF mount then for me it’s all golden because pretty much any lens in the world can be adapted to it at that point.

But really my number one request would be to add anamorphics to the line-up. I think Canon, and potentially Sony, are the only lens companies in the world who would be able to craft an affordable medium high-end anamorphic. Maybe also Rokinon but as much as I like those lenses I still think because of scale they’d have a higher price point.

I like what Atlas and a couple of other newer players are doing, but to have a company that has the service capabilities of Canon would be a major value add. Of course there are also the $50,000 - $200,000 options but that’s ridiculously beyond my price point

Canon executive talks a bit about the future

I almost have to laugh at the comment that 'Canon will continue to “promote” the EOS M lineup.'

I held out for a long time hoping that Canon would turn the EOS M lineup into something useful, but eventually gave up and went for a Fuji X-S10 as a travel camera. The biggest shortcoming of the EOS M lineup is the lack of decent EF-M lenses - quite simply nowhere compared to what Fuji's X mount system has available. A good example is the Fuji 18-55mm f/2.8-f/4 "kit" lens - which is a great compromise for travel. Canon has nothing like it.
The EF-M lens lineup seems to be targeted more at lower-spec use cases, which is quite unfortunate. I decided I would just have to put up with Fuji's absolutely abysmal menu system...

RF 100-500 availability/delivery

Makes sense, if canon can sell direct at retail why sell to dealers at wholesale.

Just got mine directly from Canon. Frankly, would have much rather gotten it through one of our favorite retailers but took the plunge when they got stock.

Don't know the internal details and plans but Canon needs to keep both their trusted retailers happy and keep us, as consumers, happy. Is there an internal formula that determines how much of each batch goes to which entity? And, with all the supply chain issues and chip shortages, has this changed?

I may have been wrong about the EOS R3 official announcement date

I didn't know that "/s" means sarcastic, and English is my native language. So, I have learned something. Actually, it's too easy to lapse into jargon and abbreviations, which we assume everyone knows but not everybody does. I often write out in full things like, for example, "minimum focal distance" rather than use mfd all the time in case newcomers aren't familiar.
I've never heard that "/s" means sarcasm. And I'm in the US. If you want it obvious to all the different cultures of the world, you'll have to use an "obvious emoji" like :ROFLMAO: or else say "(just joking)", "(sarcasm)" or something like that.

Canon to release a 100mp EOS R system camera next year [CR2]

Look at the correctly produced examples with the same reproduction ratio in both. There is no difference. None.
A) My test was done correctly but with a different lens. B) There is still a difference in privatebydesign's shots even with the severe focus breathing and much smaller distance change. C) Even if I had performed the test incorrectly and cropped in...say...2x or 3x (I was very careful to crop 1.6x) it would still prove the point. The only thing that would change is one's evaluation of how useful APS-C would be to gain macro DoF versus mft or 1" sensors.

With the same angle of view and the same final magnification ratio DoF will also be the same.
The same magnification would result in different framing. No one ever said they wanted the same magnification.

Images and specifications for the upcoming RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS & DM-E100

Not that anyone should care what my opinion is, but here's my 2 cents: I don't like the way extending lenses look. Just seems cheap, like a less expensive design method or cheaper engineering. I like internal focusing/zooming designs, persoally. I like the compact size but had decided to keep my EF v.II and just use it with the adapter. BUT... now that CR posted the photo with the hood I'm changing my mind. First time I've seen that photo. So it's like the first version of the 24-70mm EF where all that extension is hidden inside the lens hood. It won't look like an inferior 3rd party lens after all (at least when the hood is attached). May seem trivial, but we're in the image business. Photography is about visuals. I don't want gear that looks like a Tamron or Tokina when I'm paying top dollar for Canon L lenses. Same reason I'll pay more for an Apple laptop because it not only engineered well, but it's got a durable metal case and a beautiful aesthetic as well.
FOLLOW UP: Well, I bought it anyway. I don't care for the way it LOOKS as it extends when at any setting other than 70mm but the lens PERFORMS great. It's incredibly lightweight compared to the EF version, it's very sharp, and the trap door in the lens hood is handy in case a mouse crawls in your hood. Might also be handy for rotating a polarizer filter. : ) I assign ISO to the custom function ring so at events I can rapidly adjust exposure when panning from brightly lit stage areas to dark audience areas. Kind of pricey but worth every penny IMHO.

Canon 10-18mm 4K video test (at 10mm)

A 4K video test video I did with the Canon EF-S 10-18mm IS STM lens and the Canon Rebel SL3 (250D).

In 4k mode the distortion produced by this lens is less noticeable even at 10mm, than when it is in full hd 1080, due to the sensor crop.

Image quality is close to Canon's 18-55mm, so it doesn't stand out in this regard. On the other hand, its quality / price ratio seems to me personally good as well as its ergonomics.

The STM technology that comes with it is ideal for video, making almost no noise to be noticed when focusing.

The lens's own IS also helps with low-light shooting in photo. In video, the lens IS can be combined with the video Digital IS that some cameras carry. However taking into account the image quality of the lens (close to 18-55mm IS STM), combining the lens IS stabilizer, plus the camera's own Digital IS video (which goes by software), in addition to creating crop factor, image quality is lowered.

With this camera I was able to record entire clips of almost 20 minutes. Probably more can be recorded.

What do you think about the image quality and distortion on this lens? Thanks for watching. ;)

Lexar Announces Development of SD Express Memory Cards

There were no CF Express Type-A cards available either until Sony made them.
I am not saying that I am sure that Sony could have developed SD Express in the same time frame.
I am just raising the question of why they chose CF Express Type-A.
A combined drive took a lot of ingenuity but using SD Express seems the logical choice
Sony always likes to back a memory format winner. :)

Canon Compact Camera Recommendations

If you want something that will easily fit in a pocket (i.e., considerably smaller than the M series), you may want to consider the Canon G5X or the Canon G7X. These, particularly the G7X, are near your budget, The downside to these two is that they don't have interchangeable lenses.
I think the OP was wanting a lightweight camera as opposed to the 5 series and associated lenses, not something specifically pocketable. For me, APS beats 1” every time, and if you want a small, lightweight camera system then I agree with the suggestions of M5 or M50. However if you want pocketable in a (small) coat pocket then I’d suggest the G1XIII, which is a very capable, powerful miniature camera. Only if wanting a pants or shirt pocketable camera would I choose 1”. Incidentally the G1XIII is about the same size as the mark 1 G5X.

Canon officially announced the RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF 600mm f/4L IS USM

I wonder if they will produce a 500mm lens again. Are there really enough people who want 500mm, because 400mm are too wide and 600mm are too narrow for them. 500mm would only be interestng for more people if there was a f/2.8 version, but that one would be very heavy. I expect the 200-500mm f/4 to be a good alternative to a 500mm prime.
The 500mm is a noticeably lighter lens which is shootable luggable more than the 400 or 600. My question is where is the 600 DO lens f4.
