Flash Advice Please

Hi Roger
I'm just starting to shoot wildlife with a flash, but during daylight. My suggestion is practice before you go by using people at night and lit with a spotlight similar to what you expect. Doing a Google search, I also came across this video which may be helpful:

Firmware: Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

With how much software is already working in the RF lenses (Focus by wire, control ring, cropping the sensor to match the image circle, and so on) I believe they would prefer to solve it on that layer rather than touch the production process.
I still believe Canon was a little aggressive with the MFD claim. Really pushed it to show it is different from the EF version. For marketing. But apparently they are making it work as claimed.

5.9K RAW video recording still a possibility for the EOS-1D X Mark III

Following a bike on a road or track is very basic stuff. It's not like game play. But yes most SONY shootes who think following an object no matter the speed on a set path is "sports" that needs an OVF would be delusional. ;)
Sounds like you haven't tried it. Try it out and let us know how it worked out for you.

470EX-AI Problem confirmation

From my experience, it usually picks the ceiling to bounce off of. You can also choose not to use the automatic rotation feature and set it to the angle you want... just like other flashes. And surprise, surprise, when I'm outside with no walls/ceiling it chooses to point the flash at the subject (no bounce).

I have multiple 600s, but for single flash out and about, I choose the 470. It is smaller and lighter, and the rotating head has cut down on the number of times I've switched camera orientations without adjusting the flash head (which leads to misfires into a wall).

Print Studio Pro and LR and Windows 10

The installer should identity the LR folder and install it correctly. Did you use a recent installer from Canon web site?

Anyway you don't need the add-on to print from LR.

I usually don't use it, because it can't perform output sharpening (something LR can do automatically when printing) so you have to do it yourself separately for the given target output. But it does have some specific features that may be useful.

Consumer RF mount zoom lenses coming in the first half of 2020 [CR2]

It's a common term used for hundreds of lenses, both prime and zoom. Both professional and consumer. I'm not following your logic here. Why you are linking it your mind with those mirrored lenses is beyond me.

"Constant aperture" is the far more common term for what you are meaning when you say "fixed aperture", which generally does mean "fixed aperture" that only offer a single aperture setting.

Canon too busy working on "those dumb RF lenses" to make the great EF 50 prime we all need

FAKE NEWS! Misleading headline and the story takes a innocuous quote and plunks it down into the story ignoring the actual statement.

Canon Quote:

That's a far cry from the fake news headline: "Canon Done Making EF Lenses Unless Photographers Demand More."

No. They are simply concentrating their resources for the time being on developing new RF lenses. The EF lens lineup is very robust and while there may be individual lenses that some people would like to see added to the lineup, it's understandable if Canon hasn't seen a market for those lenses.

No one, including Canon, knows what the future of the camera market may be. They are busy building out the RF system, but if DSLRs remain a popular item (and I think they will) Canon is going to continue to sell and support DSLRs.
It’s easier to predict the past than the future.

EOS R related announcements coming for CP+ [CR2]

The DiG!C 8 controls AF/metering in the 1D X Mark III in the same way that what was essentially a DiG!C 5 controlled AF/metering in the 1D X Mark II and 5D Mark IV.

For image processing, the 1D X Mark II used dual DiG!C 6+ processors. The 1D X mark III uses a single DiG!C X processor.
Not the point and really doesn't matter. More than 1 processor is used for the whole sheeeee bang. Would not the metering have to do, in part, with the total output ability? RE better DR? I don't know. Don't really care. Do you know? The point is better DR. How that is accomplished, ultimately, is pure speculation on anyone's part around these parts on the internet forum. I've said it before. I'll say it again: The tech side is not within my realm.

What is your favorite new feature of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III

Yep I understand you meant there was little room for improvement, but your post brought me to the idea that this camera will show the current limits of Canon's tech.
Canon is lagging behind in low light and dynamic range at the moment. If there's no improvement, what's the point in releasing new cameras? Right now the 1DXIII's specs seem to be only shining in autofocus and fps (in terms of the stills photography). It's a flagship with all the best tech from Canon. It probably sets the bar for what Canon has in the sensor tech department, so I'm curious to see the reviews on low light and DR.

I think Canon can potentially improve the DR by one stop or so, at least in terms of the physical limits.

But in practice I bet 1DXIII will likely have the same DR and low light performance as 1DXII.

One stop improvement at the sensor level requires doubling sensor efficiency. Everyone, including Canon, already have sensors with better than 50% efficiency.

Sports R: Why not now?

I suspect that a few years from now we might see, in hindsight, that the main purpose for many of the design decisions Canon made regarding the 1D X Mark III were not motivated by the desire to produce the ultimate sports/action DSLR as a last hurrah, but rather by the strategy to use the 1D X Mark III as a test bed for the systems Canon planned to use in upcoming pro-grade mirrorless bodies.
