I have this lens, seems to work really well with the EOS R so far. Since it's a mirrorless, I'm assuming I should, using the tap in console, switch my IS to live view priority instead of viewfinder priority for the best results?

It would be nice if the switch from back screen to EVF could automatically be disabled if the tilty-flippy screen is out and tilty flipped, otherwise if you keep the camera near your body the screen blanks out.

however, the Sony A7RII is WAY more sensitive than the CAnon is.

I am sure they will have L telephoto, but I wish they weren't white! If they made them black that might be enough to make me switch from EF.

I've only used the trial version and wasn't that impressed with the performance, issues with disconnects and downloading just jpegs, but that wasn't with an EOS-R it was with the 1DX MkII and WFT-E8A. It seems most of these apps have very varied user experiences so I suggested it as it specifically states EOS-R compatibility.

I did like a couple of the other features of the app though so maybe I'll end up getting it. One thing I did find interesting from a video posted by the developer, Apple are actively pushing developers to make subscription apps, in general, for non pro software packages, I don't like that model especially for things like iOS apps.

I agree with the statement that the majority of photographers are holding back right now, waiting to see where the companies are going with mirrorless and what the future will bring. I know I won't be making any major purchases until I see where mirrorless is taking us.

For the EOS-R to thrive Canon need to bring out a 1 DR and big whites. I'd agree a 500mm F4 or a 400mm F2.8 would need to come out for it.
I'd assume it would be late 2019 / early 2020 in time of the Tokyo Olympics which might be a real battleground between Japanese Manufacturers.
Professionals might be slow to adopt a 1 DR so it would need to be good and robust. Battery life needs to be good
You'll see plenty of 1DX II's and EF lens on sidelines for years to come.

If it had a lens on it, that is likely damaged internally, even if it seems ok, I'd have it checked out. A camera can have hidden internal damage as well,(bent parts, cracked circuit boards, AF sensor off, things that are not visible. A body is not as likely to suffer damage as a lens

Canon G7 MII lacks only two things: a jack for an external microphone and a hot shoe.

I've had both lenses and would base it on what you plan to photograph. If you need technically perfect pixel peeping sharpness then go with the 35ii. I use it for landscape and it is probably sharpest lens I have right to edges. I had no issues with focus on 5dsr. I now use it on A7r3 and it works very well on that with mc11. For portraits I'd personally be perfectly happy with the original 35. I don't recall any focus issues with that one. I prefer the size and weight of the original, the 35ii feels bigger and heavier.

I ordered the 14-24 2.8 as for me it looks like it may be the best lens as it has more flexibility. The image quality was outstanding but it completely fell apart at 24mm. I've sent it straight back as there has to be something wrong with it - it would not get sharp across the frame until about f/11 at 24mm. I might order another copy though as other than the problem at 24mm it was extremely impressive.

Shrug. It’s like DXO. They publish data to promote their services. If a person reads it who has no business (in the commercial sense) reading it or basis to understand it comes away with misinterpretations, what’s the harm? It’s trivial to that reader.

The only group of non shareholders I can easily think of who might have use for this data are people who predicate their purchase decisions on popularity (perhaps some extrapolation of success to predict supported life), but people who go to that length are likely to parse the data rather than stop at a headline on an advocate/enthusiast website.

The problem doing it in body is obvious, new ones are added after bodies are released, and the body does not change or have the right info. The cost of issuing new firmware for every body would be pretty high, and most users would not update in any event. Canon does update lens tables occasionally along with firmware updates to add new lenses or make corrections, but never on any kind of regular basis.

With characteristics being in the lens, it is a elegant solution. Since I've also read of reviewers finding focus shift exists with the 50mm f/1.2 RF, it seems to still exist. The good news is that the cause of focus shift, Spherical Aberration, is low in the new lens, so its detectable but not a major issue any longer. That lens does sound like a really good one.

Rogers comment about dropping a lens certainly aligns with my views. Its why buying a used lens with a unknown history can lead to disappointing results, people often sell a lens because they are just not happy with it even though mechanically its fine. It could have been bumped too hard in shipping or dropped. I've pointed this out to people posting about dropping their lens countless times, but most think that if seems to work fine, how could it be damaged?

I also noticed that the Canon 100mm L tended to have more variation. Mine has the largest AFMA of all my L lenses, and I suspect that it is not totally as good as it should be, but I still like it. I've thought about replacing it, but with my new R, the focus is right on. I once mounted it on a Kenko TC to see if it worked. The AF motor went wild, moving focus in and out slightly like a vibrator, very fast!. After that, it made a noise when it focused. I checked, and the front lens element was loose because the ring that holds it in place had backed off part of a turn. I have the tool to tighten the ring and did, but I've always wondered if the element rotated and is decentered or out of spec. There is nothing obvious though.

Recovery time and strength differ from person to person. I used to hold the 500mm f/4L IS II with a 7DII for about 2 hours on a boat shooting intermittently. The result was my left hand barely escaped tenontitis after about 2 to 3 months later. A 400DOII is perfect for me (I can walk, handhold and shoot with it for hours). So these are my limits. But I have no complaints. I use my 500 while on a car or close by using a tripod.

I own a 6D. I started with a Billingham Eventer, which I find superb, but it is too large. I really do not mind the width and the height, but it is too deep (front to back). Then I changed for the Hadley Pro, which I like, but it is really tight for my lenses (I use a Canon 24-70 2.8, a 70-200 2.8 and a 50mm and a TC2x). So, I thought the Hadley One would be right in the middle of the Pro and the Eventer, however, these bags are not inexpensive, so I am trying to find someone with a kit similiar to mine who was already tryed it on the same bag.

Check reviews at a reliable website, there are some that are noted for weird reviews or comments.

He did not indicate that AF is faster. With the same internal components, don't expect it to be different.

Roger at Lens Rentals reviewed the lens and tore it down to compare it to the MK II. Except for a paint job and a better but fragile lens coating, its identical.
