So no-one else can patent something close enough to what you have come up with, such that you would have to pay them if you choose to use it in an actual product in the future. Or to 'block' off the use (and patenting) of relatively small variations (which are relevant to patent attorneys) thereby preventing direct steals of your innovation by the opposition.

Of course it depends on the use of this lens. It cannot be compared to a top L lens. But you can certainly take beautiful photos with it. Here is an astro photo also set to infinity.

If anyone is using R5, I always think having the silvering primes and use crop (18MP) to act as a pseudo-zoom is more viable+compact+economical than having dedicated f2.8 zoom. When E/Z mount users look down on RF users because the lack of 'cheap' f2.8 zooms, the 1.6crop plus my feet is the best zoom mechanism

The grip's removability would be just the thing for me. I very seldomly need cooling, but when I do, I do. Like shooting in direct sunlight on a hot day. I assume that this'll be more necessary with future increases in video resolution, but I've found that anything beyond 4k for me is overkill. I don't think there are too many stills + little bit of video guys like me who are going to be worried about heat dissipation for 12k video.

But knowing that a body can be quickly made into a real video rig is useful peace of mind.

I'm pleased you clarified that. I had thought that you were like the guy holding the Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8.

Looking at the photos of the new lenses, I was a little disappointed. I was hoping for something more like a shorter body or something that set the RF line really apart. These are the same as the EF version just with a permanent RF mount. I've been holding off on getting any more cinema lens having heard this rumor for the last two years. Seeing this announcement and looking at the specs, it feels like getting the EF versions is all-around better since they are cheaper ($1000.00 in some cases), you can add EF-to-RF adapters that have built in filters, and they would be backwards compatible with legacy cine cameras like my c200.

I think the measure of sharpness of a big white...is how doe sis fare with teleconverters. Both my mk1 and mk2 seem very sharp with a 1.4x TC with hardly any quality degredation. With a 2xTC is still excellent. However droppping a 1/3rd of a stop to f6.3 and the sharpness is amazing.
I think my mkII is a wee bit sharper than my mkI, however that might be the slightly better AF system. Either way, both are exceptional lenses.

Yes! 100€ doesn't sound that much. But when you think that the maximum cashback was 300€ in the latest promotions, and that was for expensive FF and L gear than i think it's fair. Some web stores have additional discounts from the list price.
So as you said for someone starting or switching to the R system it'll be nice to save e.g. 100 € on an R50+RF24-240. or 75€ if combined with the RF100-400.
And as this lasts until the Christmas time you can wait for the winter promo as well as all the black Friday, cyber Monday and other deals to add on.

and I hear you about the bulk/weight, its not something I lug around daily and at times demotivates me, but it shines in so many ways I can't give up on the R5.

I think i have ONCE in the 5 or 6 years I've been reading and writing about canon patent applications. it's a very rare thing for them to specify Tstop on a patent application. It certainly would make things easier to identify.

The RC-IP1000 controller looks suspiciously similar to the Panasonic AW-RP150. The button layout is almost identical.

Was hoping on computational stuff, like my Pixel does. Alas. Zero interest in this cam.

Given that Sony provides cameras to the AP, it seems likely there would be plenty of them at major sporting events. Maybe you’re talking about minor/local sports, or maybe your counting skills need a little work.

Making asinine statements like that does wonders for your credibility. Even if numbers are hard for you (that counting problem I mentioned earlier), the simple fact that Sony took the #2 spot away from Nikon should make it obvious to anyone that Sony gained market share. In fact, Sony had 26% of the camera market in 2022, up from barely over 10% a decade ago and more than double Nikon’s 12% share.

Canon has made gains in mirrorless and is now the #1 MILC brand by units sold, but they’re ahead of Sony only by a very slim margin.

Try to get your facts straight, that really helps if you want to have an intelligent discussion. But then, maybe you don’t.

Sad that the video capability is better than R6.

I have the Hero11 and is really fun to use. The battery is awful but, hey, it's cheap, just buy bunch of them.
I thought the video was that interpolated pixel from low pixel sensor, but no, the video quality is quite good. Comparing its 4K to R6 4K, you can see some significant difference, but for the price, it is very much acceptable. The video quality is far better than Samsung Galaxy S23. The video format still trouble some when you want to edit it in Premier Pro (slow processing time). Anyway, I might upgrade later in Hero 13 maybe even though the subscription includes a hefty discount for new camera.
