Auto aperture above auto iso for video?

I am shooting real estate videos. And when shooting a house, it just has to work. When shooting outside or inside, I want the settings to accommodate that. But when In a particular room, say a room on the north side of the house (no sunshine and always darker), and I have an ISO of 6400, I want the camera to reach the lowest aperture first.

Real-estate videos are quickly made without a lot of production. So I want the most optimal settings. And when I have a different Aperture per room, I do not mind.

Crazy RF 100-500 Disaster!!

Best advice I can give is to take the tripod collar off the lens and chuck it in the waste bin.

I had an RF 70-200 bite the dust when that stupid collar popped open and the lens and camera fell to the floor. Canon ended up replacing the lens for free because they were unable to repair it. I think really they know the tripod collar has a design flaw.

When I got the new 70-200 from Canon I immediately took the tripod collar off and put it in a box. Recently I had to shoot a runway show and wanted to have the 70-200 on a monopod for a little extra stability. So I pulled that awful tripod collar out of the closet and put it on at the show. When I was packing up and going to unscrew the monopod from the tripod collar (which was attach to the camera) it again popped open and the camera and lens went falling to the ground.

By the grace of god I somehow caught them and prevented another disaster.

In my opinion the RF tripod collars which swing open under the weight of the camera should be recalled. They are flawed and your lens and camera is at risk using them.

I bet anything when these lenses start getting revised that design will be replaced.

In close I should mention the design of the EF tripod collars was pretty much bulletproof, impossible to come off when the lens and camera were connected.

RF-s - Lenses in excellent quality needed for the phantastic EOS-R7 (for photo-entusiasts, who don't need/want full-frame)!

I think some of you are forgetting some of the amazing ef-s glass than canon DID release
Yes, the 17-55 is widely known and respected. I have it and I’m not a fan
But let’s not forget the STM triplets 10-18,18-55 & 55-250
Or
Ef-s 24 pancake
Ef-s 35mm macro
Ef-s 60mm macro
Ef-s 15-85 usm
I own all those plus the others that rarely get mentioned 18-135stm, 18-200usm.
Also have all the ef-m lenses too
They are all bloody good.

It’s a shame canon dropped the M system. The missing M7 combining the best of the M6ii and M50ii would have been sweet as would a few more fast primes. The ef-m 32/1.4 is just incredible.

The R5/R6ii and RF L glass is more than I’m prepared to pay - not so much that I can’t afford it, I simply just can’t justify it - there is a difference!!

EF 50/1.4 usm vs 7artisans 55/1.4mkii

Recently picked up a used boxed pristine 7artisans 35/1.4 I’m currently using it on my M50, works great. I also have a used 7artisans 25/1.8 arriving tomorrow too
Both were ridiculously cheap so no damage to the wallet

I’m now tempted to buy a used cheap 7artisans 55/1.4 mkii as well, but
I have several 50mm inc a few non canon.
My question is would the 55mm 7artisans give me something that my canon 50/1.4 usm cannot??

My worry is that focusing the 25 & 35 manually is easy, however, the 55 is almost equivalent to 90mm (88mm) in FF and at 1.4 the DoF is gonna be crazy thin, I’m just wondering given the M50 has eye focus if I’m better off sticking with my canon ef50/1.4 ?

Optically would there be much difference ?

Any advice?

Leica announces a silver version of the SL2

Camera aesthetics are about as "modern" as their WIFI. Canon is the Jeep of cameras. Purely functional but not exactly stylish.
That is your respectable point of view, yet,a bit risky to compare Leicas with poorly assembled 4X4s.
I do really like their aesthetics, the tactile quality, the ergonomics, the menu, far less the limited choice of lenses, their WIFI and their horrible prices...
Unfortunately, you can no longer adapt Canon EF lenses, this means no T&S, no luminous teles, and, sadly, no macro ring-flash (unless in manual mode). The re-badged Nissin strobes cost twice as much...

HELP!! 70-200 stuck at 90mm

I messed up and dropped my 70-200mm 2.8 MKII now it won’t zoom in or out an stuck at 90mm. I sent it off to Canon and they quoted $1000! Originally quoted $500. I have never heard of this issue so therefore I haven’t been able to find any information on how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you have enough "points", you should have joined CPS Gold. For $100/year it gets you 20% off repairs and free return FedEx shipping. The $227 you'd have saved would more than offset the $100, and you'd have it for the next year if you needed to send anything else in. Even for the $500 quote, CPS Gold would have saved you $127 for a $27 net savings.

After almost 30 years, Canon is ending the “Kiss” branding in Japan

I am an old King Crimson/Robert Fripp fan...
I was actually signed up for the Fripp master class in Tokyo in fall '94 but my company transferred me to Zurich. I was ROYALLY pissed but looking back it was for the best. I like how my style evolved by itself, free of Fripp's influence. Login to view embedded media I'm pretty sure that class turned into the League of Crafty Guitarists.

Patent: Canon 35mm f/1.2 optical formula appears, along with a 12mm f/1.2

I suspect that the R5ii is nearly completed it's developement and now just needs it's production, assembly and marketing arranged. The problem Canon now has is an overstock of new mk1's. Canon aren't going to want to pimp the feature set of the Mk1 so that would then compete with the shiney new mk2 sales.
Once the Mk2 is announced, the old Mk1 has to be heavily discounted and that will eat into the sales of both the R5ii the 6Dii.

The 5Diii to 5Div was a huge jump in sensor design. Everything about that newer sensor was better, resolution, readout speed, ISO noise, DR. The mkiii was a major refresh of everything except the sensor, which was based on the older 5Dmkii.

The R5 is just a well rounded and capable camera. It's sensor design, user interface and build are already superior to the R and 5Dmkiv. It is 2 generations of camera later and there's not a lot to improve on it except some mild tweeking to the base specs to bring it in line with the newer R3/R6ii/R8 AF algorithms. I'd be suprised if Canon add these to the current R5...however...they could if they wanted to.

I'm a new entry to the world of Canon mirrorless. I've been a Canon shooter for nearly 40 years. I've rocked a pair of 5Diii's since they were launched (and I shot weddings professionally). I tried the EOS R and RP on launch and I didn't like them. I felt that the loss of the optical viewfinder and drastic changes to the AF system was worth the investment. To me the EOS R felt like a Gen 1 beta, so I decided to wait a few generations before I dipped my toe.
I bought an R8 a month back to ease me into the newer RF system and it's a remarkable camera. The stark contrast from the 5Diii, through the Eos R to the R8 (and R6ii) is a massive quantum leap in technology and AF capability. For me, it's now worth the effort to re-learn everything because the gains in the new system are so much better.
I'd like to pick up a R5 later in the year to use as my primary camera, finally selling my trusty old 5Diii onto their next owners. But for me, do I wait for a R5ii or get a mid life R5 and hope Canon honour their promise to add the newer features and AF algorithms? Ultimately, the R5 will be more camera that I would need. But it's a camera that is entering it's autum of it's production life. The AF has already been improved upon by the R3 and R6ii/R8.
I've had the R5 for 3 years now (from pre-order in Feb-2020) and it is a huge step from my previous 5Div. I could never go back to a DLSR now.
There are a bunch of firmware improvements that Canon could implement (IMHO) hat wouldn't impact sales of R3/R7/R6ii etc. The recent pixel shift high res feature wasn't really great in practice but good on a spec sheet.

The R6 (mark i) is still on sale at a different price to the mark ii so there is precedence for Canon keeping a cheaper R5 vs mark ii but there would need to be some compelling features in a mark ii to tempt even some mark i users to upgrade. I can't see myself upgrading for a long time to come.
The R5 is currently being discounted especially in Australia so perhaps they are reacting to the Nikon's shiny new Z8. I don't think that Canon will have problems shifting stock if they really need to :)
I think that I will pick up a second hand RP in a few months as a backup and astro timelapse/star trails on a workshop to the outback. No need for good AF with manual lenses.

R8 or R6 mark I

I was worried that this R8 would be a cut down & crippled consumer camera akin to the synical Digital Rebel range. It really isn't and it's a very serious camera. Apart from the size, tiny battery and lack of IBIS (not a deal breaker for me...I shoot stilsl and use a lot of fast primes)...it's an astonishing and capable camera. It's even got focus stacking!
I'm pleased with the R8 so far, I think it will be an excellent camera for travel. The tiny battery issue can be overcome by carrying a few of them, and since it's the same battery used in the M6 and M6II, I have 4 of them now. Bonus that one of my kids will likely be using the M6II on an upcoming trip, sharing batteries and having two cameras that can charge them directly (with power supplies for other devices) is convenient.

Jan 2012 - Shuttered: Digital cameras killed Kodak, but smartphones will kill digital cameras

I found this very prophetic 2012 article on Kodak being killed by digital photography that in turn was decimated by iPhones and Androids.

Canon releases firmware v1.1.2 for the EOS R6 Mark II

If that happened to one of my cameras in warranty I would be sending it back to Canon, hopefully they will resolve the issue or give you a better copy.
Canon has been known to fix defects even after the warranty expires.
They need to believe it was a defect and not wear and tear.

Looking for zoom lens beyond 200mm for r6 2 for high school sports that is within a $2-3k budget.

Sigma 120-300 OS HSM Sport for canon is used 2300$ and a brand new one not much more expensive.
If you want to go even lower in price take the older Sigma 120-300 2.8 (which I have) and use IBIS instead of OS
If you want to go low in price and weight than the Sigma 100-300 4,0 HSM. Looks antique with his 3 time outdated exterial design but I use it when the Canon EF 300 4.0 L is not flexible enough and while others complain about the optical flaws it is still sharp enough for the picture sizes I use

All above mentioned lenses work with the Canon RF adapter if you go with the R6 and even the speedbooster adater from Viltrox (if you choose the R7)
