Yes I could certainly get used to the 61 point system! Seriously while I did my test using the center point first to compare the camera and take a few variable out of the way, there is no denying that this system will be good and am sure my issue will prove trivial eventually or linked to first production unit firmware issue maybe.

Since I am getting the 1DX (no way I am going to Nikon over this!), I will need to get used to it afterall!

That's the worst thing about the this camcorder is the touch screen and interface. It can be a pain to search through the menu via touch screen compared to a sony because it doesn't move very smoothly. Had they put in a tiny nipple or joystick navigating this camcorder would be easier.

I really do doubt this rumor because I think it conflates a bunch of different things that may or may not be in development.

The number one thing that falsifies the rumor is 4K in a 1-series chassis.

Where are you going to store all that data? On two CF cards? There just isn't enough room to cheaply stream all that data onto, and unlike stills, video productions can cost over $1,000 an hour to re-shoot should memory fail. So anyone ambitious enough to try to shoot 4K will want redundant storage...and as mentioned, it's ridiculous to suggest a portable SLR form factor if you're going to require external storage anyway.

So I do believe Canon will develop a "C" DSLR intended for video purposes.

I do not believe for a minute that it will be 4K resolution, not this year or next. Maybe 2015.

I do believe Canon will develop a 4K followup to the C300. C400 perhaps. That might appear in 2013.

Fs100-Metabones is a serious competitor to the C300. It may exert a lot of price pressure on that system. But I think what's going on is Canon is servicing the rental market with its current prices, figuring anyone who needs C300 features is going to rent. People who want to own can wait or look elsewhere. Or just be happy with the all-rounder 5d3 as I am.

Actually there are 2 eyes in focus I think... the mushroom on his hat has one eye in focus too

Great shot, I love the shallow DOF with only one eye (on the guy ) in focus.

Its great that even with just one eye on the plane of focus you also managed to get the nose ring mostly in focus too... was that planned or a happy accident?

Thanks, I was actually mainly hoping the anarchy tat in between the eyes would also be in focus, but the fact that the nose ring was too, was just a little icing on the cake. As for the second eye, I sort of like the fact that it is out of focus. One of the reasons I got the 1.2 was to get portraits where the head is not all in focus, the dreamy quality and attention that it forces on the face has always fascinated me. Now I can finally replicate it.

The Arca-Swiss L bracket(802306) has a removable base plate. You can use it as QR plate or plug the bracket in and have the L bracket when needed. The plates are available separately, so you only need 1 L bracket for several bodies and never need to replace the L bracket when you change bodies.
It is easily adjustable to body size, so that is not a factor either.
The base plates have an anti-twist pin for various bodies as well.
Might be a good choice...

I recently bought a tamron 70-300 VC USD and since there is a decent amount of wildlife in my area I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm somewhat uncertain however what the best strategy is in advice regarding AF on my body. Ive never used anything other than single shot-AF (center point/recompose).

Most stuff Ive shot was moving targets (eg. deer). The 40d has only 9 AF points, and since I'm in thick forests, when Ive tried to use servo-AF it seems to just only use the center point and often focuses on objects infront of the animal, such as a tree or branch. Plus since there is no time to recompose, Im not keen on center point AF anyway.

so Ive now actually kinda given up on AF and just decided to keep the lens on manual AF near infinity, then I can always slightly tune the AF as needed.

Is there a better way for me to use the (relatively limited) AF of the 40d? how do you guys out there do sports or wildlife? all AF points, or center only? AF-servo, single, or auto AI?

Well when they do post RAW image, they better make darn sure they are compaticble with existing RAW converter!

Yeah even with ACR is makes weird result. When you apply sharpness to image it does something weird to the file...it must be software as opposed to quality our of the sensor. I hope we have yet to see the potential of the new sensor and will not do so until software issues are solved.

Downloaded it myself this morning (my box was missing the CD altogether) and it works fine. Minus the reported issues, that is.

I don't agree with Jeff's "almost silent" comment. It's more like "not as loud". Don't get me wrong, it's a great feature but to call it "Silent" mode is very misleading.

I was just out shooting with my 70-200 II today. Man, that lens is soooo sharp! I only shoot RAW and sometimes when I upload it on my computer I sit there and look at the image and wonder if I really need to sharpen PP - its amazing. Grats on the mark iii as well!!! That's more fun in one day than a photographer deserves!

50L's with datecode ux and above have focus shift improvement. Just surprised you needed +6 microfocus adjustment.

Chack out the Sigma 150mm F2.8 Macro with OS.
I've got the Canon 60mmEF-S macro and have used the 100L, but the Sigma is just wonderful.

Sharper than the 100L, and the colours, contrast and bokeh are to die for.

With the OS, it works really well hand held too.

Sure but finding a leaflet for a Canon event dated 25th October 2011 in the box suggests at least the box was lying around for a while! Maybe the Nikon D800 delayed things?

It's a bit too early to know how this is going to work. But my impression is, if you shoot JPEG, the correction is baked in and shouldn't be redone (unless you feel it needs it). If shooting RAW, the software should read the correction as metadata and apply it under your control (I.e. like a preset amount on the software's sliders). It would then be activated if you had activated it in-camera,and would not be double-dipped.

That's how I would do it if hired to design these things, but again, it's too early to know ow they will actually design these things, potentially for good reasons.

Well, just for the op's information: with magic lantern, you can release the shutter by the sound of snapping your finger near the camera - works for me. And of course ml has real timelapse, bulb ramping and advanced scripting, you could write a script to release the shutter after any wait time or in any interval you want.

metering and WB improved considerably with Canon's new color sensitive metering sensor which debuted, i think, on the 7D.

When using these cameras I have to remember to leave metering on matrix and no comp for most shots, unlike the older metering systems where the old thumb-rule had to be called on quite frequently.
My 60D's metering is about as good as it gets almost all the time. Can still trick it to mess up but not nearly as easily as the older system like the 40D.
