yep i noticed that too and the veiwfinder is sooooo much better for manual focus, I'm not really worried about changing screens in this one it has a much more 1D feel to it for MF

I'm pretty sure on the 1Dmk3 the little green circle in the VF lights up when MF is achieved you dont get the actual AF point light up

Yo Wicked, just tested it and yes you are correct about the green light, it does also slightly flicker my red selected focus point. I wish the 5d had an option to always have the focus point on in red, i have a hard time using the focus point settings it has to get what i want. The 1d settings i have is the red square focus point is always on.

so far I absolutely love the size, build quality handling, viewfinder, speed and versitility
but i'm quite concerned the image quality is lower than the 5Dmk2 but i think I have to wait until
decent raw converters are available.
IMO the jpegs out of camera are next to useless

In cam multi-exposure is really nice because it works in live view. You can line up your shots and still save all the raws for processing later.

You guys have a distinct advantage in the wildlife photography as far as access to the exotic fauna. Kookaberra and Kangaroo shots, posted like it's no big deal. Cool.

This is what I'm seeing also, clear as day. I still hope that it is because of the raw converter, maybe even the release candidate of ACR is doing something wrong with the 5D3 raws? the DPP preview is sharp its only once you start processing the detail disapears. The DPP preview is noticably sharper than ACR 6.7

I have the same wired remote, and it takes at least a year before it drains the battery (including light use), so not a problem IMO.

I can block sites, which I've now done with Ryther. I do NOT control what Google puts through the adsense network. The scam sites change URL's too, so it's an ongoing battle.

Great, can't wait to see how this turns out. I had the Tamron 17-50 VC, but sold it because the focus motor was just too slow. If they do make a product out of this patent, I sure hope it has the new USD motor. I see no reason why they would not put it in.

There have been a number of threads that point to the comparison. this one merely points to a site that points to the comparison.

I certainly did not notice that one was outdoing the other by any noticible worthwhile amount. However, the high ISO images were taken with bright light and the story may change with low light at warm temperatures which are more realistic for use in the dark. For sports use to freeze motion in brightly lit arenas, the results should be realistic.

I managed to order a D800 a few days ago while Amazon UK dropped its price to £ 2,100.

As I'm not heavily invested in either system I couldn't really justify paying an extra 30% for the 5D Mark III.

The £ 900 saving is hard to argue with!

Don't forget to order the Nikon Software, its free with Canon but extra with Nikon.

The Nikon 70-200mm VR II is sharp, but its focus breathing is extreme, so that is a detractor if you expect 70mm up close.

Many of the common Nikon lenses are priced much higher, and some equivalents to Canon are not available. However, Nikon is rapidly cranking out some good but expensive primes. No f/1.2 lenses though, not that I could afford them anyway.

I have 16 canon lenses including TC's currently, so I'm not likely to sell them all. It would cost less to switch to a 1D MK IV or 1D X compared to replacing them with 6or 8 Nikkor lenses(including TC's).

my 5D MK II is sold, so I'kk want a replacement I like by may. My 5D MK III arrives Tuesday.

I find it annoying they included an in-camera HDR feature.. the last thing anyone wants to do is encourage people to do HDRs.

Anyone know if they will actually end at the end of this month? I just purchased the 5dIII & 70-200L IS II, so funds are low, but I really am looking at the 85mm L II as well as prices are lower, Im debating buying this new now with rebates or even used as they are lower as well right now, any suggestions on what you see happening and if in fact this is the best time to buy? Wedding season is coming up so I would like to have it within the next 3 months.

I believe that both companies knew what are the specs of the 5DMIII & D800 as both cameras were in the hands of beta testers. But Canon gave Nikon a strong 'punch' by not pricing the 5DMIII close to the MII. I suspect that Nikon priced D800 aggressively to compete with the 5DMIII at what they thought it to be priced around $3000.

So Nikon Marketing are getting slapped right now as they see the strong 5DMIII demand despite the high price tag. So every Nikon D800 sold (@ $3000) will be considered a LOSS, in Nikon books.

Think about what else you must buy to use a body. Nikon makes a ton of money on lenses, batteries, flashes, they even charge you for software that Canon gives free. And ... they charge you again after a major upgrade.

Its like printer and ink, sell the body low, but the lenses high and make as many add-ons as possible.

I don't know if this applies to you, but the effect you describe may be something like the following:

When viewing an original photo and a downsized version on a high resultion screen it is not unusual that the downsized version will look somewhat worse. This is an effect due to losing detailed information in the image, but it is only visible, if the image is presented larger than the target size of the downsized version.

You can verify this easily by using a size like 800x530 for an image and then you compare it on your viewer presenting the image to use screen estate equivalent to more pixels than the picture size. You will see that your viewer will render the image differently than the original, because the viewer will try to adapt your picture to the available screen estate, thus making it appear fuzzy. The downsized picture won't look fuzzy once viewer in smaller size.

Some of the other videos I saw didn't seem to have much of a difference in the sound, but when trying it in person you can really tell a difference. Tried to capture the volume difference. The silent mode in person is pretty good. It's pretty close to the sound of the live view shutter sound.

I'm not sure of all your details but if you feel you were mistreated or misinformed you should call back ask for mgt. This is a fine company and they will make you whole if they can.

The other day I have just tested out my new Zeiss f/2 35mm and I feel that it has better IQ and sharpness compared to the L and F lenses. However one of the most arguable features that photogs don't like about zeiss is because it is not an F lens. Would you all prefer the IQ or overall performances of zeiss lenses or would u stick to your own camera's respected lenses?
