That section does not cover eye controlled autofocus, I've been thru the chapter that has eye controlled autofocus but still can not get it working properly with my back button focus settings. It is working but not exactly picking up where I am looking, may be need to do calibration again. I might also have to change how I set up my back button focusing to suit eye controlled auto focus. I am using 3 back buttons for back button focusing at the moment. Thanks for your input.

I almost got crazy trying to set the eye controlled AF working on my R5 II. It just didn't focus where it should.
Until I read somewhere that the shutter release button should configured so it would enable not only shutter release and metering, but also the use of Eye AF. No idea whether it's the same with the R1...

You may have a problem with your choice of 5v power for the dummy battery. As you suggest it’s likely the current is inadequate. For most AC to DC power supplies, you’ll see the output amperage on the power supply. There are two or more indicator locations on the 50D (according to the user manual I just read) that show the battery condition. That applies whether you are using a real battery or the dummy battery. Check your camera to see if it registers a full battery when using the dummy battery. I have a third party brand dummy battery that I use with my Canon 60D. That power supply provides 30 watts (1-2 amps) at the 8.4v required. It’s not the voltage that’s the likely problem with your equipment. It’s probably the amperage (current).

R5 Mk 1, Firmware 2.1.0.. The checkered flag button doesn't work for me in video mode. I mean the right-most one with the grid, official name "AF point selection" button.

That is it works before recording, including button customizations, but once I start recording it does nothing.

E.g. I set it to "Movie Servo AF enable/disable" and it only works before recording. The same function works during recording when I put it on the "Depth-of-field preview" button or the "Auto Exposure lock" button.

Same with other functions, they just won't work during recording when I put them on that button, yet work fine on others.

Does it work for you? Any ideas besides a full reset?

Yesterday’s Nikon was the first I’ve seen for several years now. My experience is that the very long zoom compacts are niche products with birders, and I see more birders than most.

Just saw this and I'm going to try and track one down to play with.

Two thoughts:

It flabbergasts me that this didn't launch focused on the sporting (birding/hunting) market first.
If OIS is only in play for the visible light optics, hitting a pin (or a deer) might be fairly difficult as your laser would drift differently than what you see through the monocular.

The second one is less of an issue for golf as most pins have retroreflectors in them now, but for 300yds on an animal? That'll be tough.

That said, super neat product and I'll be interested to test it vs the hunting focused options I have already.

The flange focal distance of RF mount is 20mm. The flange focal distance of Z mount is 16mm. Without using something exotic like an adapter with internal elements the adapter would have to be -4mm thick.

Good that Canon is removing many paper handling limitations of the previous models - with my PRO-10 I have to get panorama prints printed by an external lab. But how easy is to get pre-cut panorama paper? I've seen some but based on A4 size - I'd like something based on A3/A3+. It is true one can get a roll and cut it themselves., but may require de-curling.

It's certainly interesting prospect. The EF 8-15mm L f4 fisheye is a great and small lens that sits easy in a travel bag and can go wider than anything else. I've been a bif fan of this lens since it's launch and it's easily the most versatile fisheye lens ever made. Sometimes I de-fish the images in lightroom for good effect and I get images that are wider in perspective than my EF 11-24mm. Sure the corners are stretchy and mush....but as an occasional (and light weight) lens it's verry useful.
Addding a drop in element that allows this sweet little lens to become a 16mm rectilinear prime really adds a lot more to it's versatility.

Yes and no. It's suprising how many new EF lenses are still being sold across the world. It's still a significant market for Canon. Many have not migrated to RF cameras and many that have are happy with their EF glass,

11. The accuracy of the timecode when the camera is turned off and the [Time Code Run] setting is set to [Free Run] has been improved.

Along with fixing some of their bugs from that latest firmware announced in December.
