Insta360 Ace Pro 2 specifications leak ahead of announcement

Insta360 makes a lot of popular action style cameras. It seems the action camera segment has a lot of great competition between Insta360, DJI and stalwart GoPro. Insta360 has a partnership with Leica and their lenses are branded as such. They’re obviously not made by Leica, but are Leica built to Leica’s suggested design. Insta360

GoPro Announces Two New Cameras: The $399 HERO13 Black and the $199 HERO

The HERO13 Black certainly has an appealing aesthetic, but I'm actually more intrigued by that $199 HERO model. It could potentially be a fantastic entry-level option for individuals who don't necessarily require all the high-end features and capabilities. I'm quite curious to understand how the performance and feature set of this more affordable HERO camera compares to some of the older GoPro models on the market.

Are we finally going to get f/2.8 constant aperture zoom lenses for APS-C/RF-S?

Thank you for the info on R7 and 15-85 compatibility. For the moment I’m still using my 80D with it that replaced the 7D that didn’t age well (dead pixels), but sometimes I wonder whether the le s is not also aging. I really hope a 15-85 or at least 15-60 will come out. The 15 part is key here as makes a huge difference to me with an 18 found on ma y other lenses.
I misread it as "canon dream sandwiches"... was wondering why Canon is into sandwich-making now too??

Check out the Canon Cinema EOS C400 Masterclass

his courses are overpriced and overrated

$250 for everything doesn't seem overpriced, this isn't 5DayDeal sewer level stuff.

To be "overrated", you have to first be rated, so that would mean a lot of people have found great value in what he provides. Educational resources will be great for some, and not for others.

I purchased a pricey course for Resolve last year, and it was personality over education and I was extremely bummed about it. However, I wouldn't call it overrated, as many others obviously love the courses. It was also 4 times the price!

Canon EOS R5 Mark II for Bird Photography Feedback

As an example, I've been reliably able to follow birds with a long lens for many years. However, with prior cameras the AF could not always keep up and the frame rates did not always yield an optimal image. Now, with the R3 and my 600/4 II + 1.4x TC, I can follow a bird just as well across the sky, but usually all the images are in focus and with 30 fps, I can pick a shot with the optimal wing position. It's not that I could not achieve similar results before, but with the 1D X there was an element of luck whereas with the R3 the results are more reproducible...and keepers are more common (though at 30 fps, the keeper rate is pretty poor).
In the mid range of the R series like the R7, the only real advantage over my Nikon D500 is the lightness of the RF telephotos and the bodies and perhaps the eye detection. The lightness was the main reason I changed but otherwise nothing much has improved and the viewfinder is way behind the optical one.

Canon recalls the Speedlite EL-5, because they can’t make flashes

Well, as a follow up the second time is a charm. Still a lot of questions and shaky confidence in this unit. Repair order from CPS indicated they replaced a circuit board and no overnight drainage so far. Not sure why they didn't do that the first time....? I see they've dropped the EL 5 price $100 so I'm suspecting they may discontinue it? Crazy.

Well, I just had the worst experience with Canon Professional Services on the EL-5 recall. I read about the recall here. I'm wondering why I had to find out about it on this forum as opposed to getting a notification directly from Canon, but that's another issue I suppose.
I've been a Canon user for 30 years and a CPS member most of that time. I've always had incredible service with them and one reason I've stuck with them through most of my career. I have EF lenses from 14 2.8, through 400 2.8 (50 1.2, 35 1.4, 135 f2, 70-200 2.8 and more) Usually you ship a repair on a Monday and you will receive it by Friday that week. Amazing. I only switched to mirrorless early this year with an R5 & R6 mkII, don't shoot video (except for one client doing some shorts on the iPhone.)
I've have a complete Godox system from the V1, AD200, AD100 & 600. However I felt like the V1 didn't work great with the R5 and I was intrigued with the ST-E10 and several reviews of the EL-5 that were very positive. So purchased in early August the El-5 and transmitter and discovered the battery problem, having it discharge in the middle of shoots.
Sent to CPS last week (I'm a gold member, could qualify for the platinum) describing the problem and recall notification. Got it back on that Friday and the service detail I received indicated that the "product was examined and it was found that the product performed according to specifications. We recommend storing your battery separate from the flash." It was cleaned and checked, product functions were confirmed. Thank you for using Canon!"

I apologize for the long rant, I have tried both batteries in the strobe and they discharge within 2 days. Why the recall then? I'm about to make a nasty call to CPS to ask that the unit be replaced since obviously this is one of the defective ones and others have stated here that their EL-5 doesn't have the problem. WTF!!!! Any advice is appreciated.

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM

100-400 IS II + 2X II + 2x III + 1.4x III

Focus was hard, it would break in the middle of the zoom range, but focus at 400mm?? not sure what was the issue, but manual and auto focus both were hard.

full
I've tried using extension tubes on mine. Autofocus becomes unusable on the R5, but I can manually focus *IF* the subject is slow enough. Unlike many lenses the extension tubes don't accentuate chromatic aberrations very noticeably

Canon R5 Mark II and R6 Mark II Rule the Rankings

OK. Is it for some video needs? I hardly imagine non-EVF camera usage scenarios for myself.
However, Canon wasn't noticed as attentively listening to its customers company.
Not for for video needs, I still use my original M and M6II and like the space saving of not having an EVF. For most of the family pictures with the R8 I don’t use the EVF either.
When I used the M50, the EVF drove me nuts, it distorted like crazy and gave me a headache. I strongly suspect that model only has an EVF to make it look more ‘professional’, it’s certainly not there to be used.

The majority of people isn’t going to use large and heavy lenses on such a camera, so the stability argument goes out the window as well. So I’ll take a smaller, cheaper camera over one with an atrocious token EVF.

FWIW, the R8 EVF is a joy to use.

camera clicking and video jumping on R5M2

I posted this in another thread but the thread is for a different issue. When I am using my R5M2 in video mode with auto focus and image stabilization on, my camera clicks louder than normal when it is focusing between near and far objects and the video noticeably twists/distorts periodically. Has anyone seen this in their R5M2s? It only does this in video mode and works fine in image mode. If I turn image stabilization off the issue goes away. Below is a link to a short video I took with my phone looking through the viewfinder as it seems to be more pronounced that way than using the rear screen, however it still does it when not looking through the viewfinder.

Edit, the video won't play unless downloaded, only drawback from my file sharing system.

Canon Patent Application: Actively Cooled Small Cini Camera

In this patent application (2024-135864) Canon is exploring increasing the heat dissipation in a small R5C-looking camera body. In particular, Canon is worried about the heat buildup around the media card, and looking to improve heat dissipation around the card without increasing the size of the camera. With good reason, those CF Express cards can get quite toasty.
