RODE launches the Wireless GO (Gen 3) microphone/recorder system

I can’t think of a legitimate reason anyone should buy these over the Rode Wireless PRO microphone system. For $55 more, the PROs come with $200 worth of quality, locking Lavalier mics, include the $75 charging case and also include timecode sync ability. Realistically, these should cost $175-200. At $300, GET THE PRO SYSTEM! $55 gets you $275 worth of accessories you’ll actually use on every job. Locking lavs!! A true connection and charging/storage case - it’s a no brainer.

These are a rip off by comparison…

Canon Camera and Lens Predictions for 2025

Since we already have the 17-55mm for EF, I'd love to see an actual upgrade with a little more zoom range.
Sigma had a very versatile 17-70mm Contemporary 2.8-4 back in the EF days, I would love if Canon could come up with a similar design, maybe a 15-65mm 2.8-4.

My other wish would be finally getting the 22mm f/2 pancake for RF-S. Perfect 35mm equivalent and ultra small. But I still have the theory that Canon ditched that lens because it was too good and too cheap.

I think a G7X Mark IV is a safe bet. Canon would be really stupid to ignore the latest trend that lets the old G7X Mark II fly off the shelves. In Germany it even beats the Fujifilm X100VI sales right now. Generation Tiktok is going crazy for these premium compacts.

EOS R1 Pre-Capture Feature Unable to assign to 'Hot Button'

Its quite easy to set this up: First first go to ''Customize Buttons for Shooting' in the green menu, the scroll and select the 'AF-ON' button and select that. Then select option 6 in your screen shot above and press 'Info Detail set'. Then set half press to Metering and AF start. Should be greyed out already and Full press to 'Switch ES Cont. Shooting modes' and press 'Info Detail Set' and then select High Speed Continuous. This will give you half press for your current frame rate and full press to 40 FPS. If you need screen shots let me know. I did a video here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/e1p6...yph44FoM?rlkey=ogsq1qzsx4u45dubrliwekjbp&dl=0
Thank you for clarifying. I do not use back button focus, but for those that do this is very useful information that was not clear.

Patent Application: Canon Body Cap Style Lens Designs

Not sure how useful the 28mm is vs the existing 28mm pancake which is similar size. I was surprised at how decent that lens is for the size, price and weight. It's the main lens I carry when up in the hills this time of year, my winter camping kit for UK mountains adds up in weight fast between 4 season tent and extra layers, crampons, few days of food and fuel etc so I'd leave my photo stuff at home due to weight until I picked that lens up recently.

The Canon EOS R6 Mark III is “definitely” coming in Q1 of 2025

Have you tried back button focus so that a quick full press of the shutter button avoids pre-shooting but a half press does actuate it.
Thank you for that, I’ll test it out! Unfortunately I ran out of back buttons for other things. And it’d be still annoying since the pre-shoot takes some buffer and also consumes much more power but better than nothing

There are a couple of “higher-end” RF-S zoom lenses coming with the EOS R7 Mark II

I just looked at the specs for Tamron's 17-70mm f/2.8 APS-C lens on the Sony platform.

At over one and three-quarters the weight and length (and nearly half again the price) of my Sigma RF-S 18-50mm f.2.8, I'm glad I got the Sigma.

The Tamron has optical image stabilization built in. That probably accounts for much of its greater weight and price.

I'm very impressed by the R7's IBIS, which makes my EF 200mm f/2.8L USM + EF 1.4 III teleconverter (which is not a stabilized lens on its own) easily hand-holdable on the R7 (pretty good for an effective focal length of 448mm), so I'll stick with the Sigma with the R7's IBIS. The attached photos were taken handheld with the EF 200+teleconverter this summer. Of course the light was good enough for a shutter speed of 1/1,600 at ISO 400, but the images are certainly sharp enough.

The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN normal zoom is also a very sharp lens, as can be seen from the attached pix- including the 1/40 second 3200 ISO 50mm indoor candid. I try to avoid that kind of ISO, since my ancient laptop took nearly an hour to write out a JPEG of that shot at DxO PhotoLab 8's highest noise reduction setting (which nevertheless did a very nice job).

Megapixels

I am thinking of starting with 500 f/4 II. R1 and/or R5 w/ and w/o 1.4xtc.

Then 500 no tc, f/4, shutter 1/2500 or 1/3200 and set the ISO to get proper exposure. I have the four bodies to test: M6 II, 5D IV, R5 and R1.

Hopefully I’ll get some cooperative birds. That is often a big assumption.

Canon has a global shutter camera in the pipeline

I take it you are using the R1 in anti-flicker mode, correct?
Also, do you have footage on your YouTube channel?
Sure, the R1 automatically detects the refresh rate of lights and adjust accordingly… this is less effective in mixed lighting… but even this doesn’t fix the moire when shooting with LED walls… those artifacts are caused by the sensor's pixel grid interfering with the pixel grid of the LED wall. This seems largely a non-issue in raw and FHD. However, it’s a genuine problem when filming in 4K.

RF 100-500 Sports

I have this lens as well and use it for track season, and I will use it for motorsports at some point. I agree with Neuro that it is a good lens. I have not used it on my R1 yet, but I will do so in the spring. I have also used it with a 2xTC to shoot pictures of the moon with some fantastic results on my R5.

To the OP, become friends with the coaches and get sideline access, even better, just go to the game while carrying your camera and go down to the field, I have never been stopped or questioned when carrying my camera to the field; just make sure you are not interfering with the event and no one typically cares. I do have credentials that helps as well but I only wear them from time to time. Reach out to your state's version of milesplit and offer to shoot for free for a credential. Wearing that to any event typically results in no one asking questions, plus it typically gets your free and preferred parking and free event entry with a little social engineering. "Hi, I'm media where can I park" I have yet to have to pay for parking since getting that, and they just point me to the preferred parking area, and off I go.

SIGMA RF mount lens information finally coming in February 2024? [CR1]

While I keep hoping for a 200-ish mm 1:1 macro lens, having a bunch of the DC DN APS-C lenses available in RF mount would be great. I have the EF-M 56mm f/1.4 and it's small, light-weight, has silent AF and very good IQ. Any of the lenses from the https://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/dc-dn page would be a good fit on RF-S bodies.

Does anyone want the SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art for RF as well?
I WANT EM ALL! The 16mm f1.4 for my M50 MK 2 is still my favorite but, I NEED it for my R50! I need them all! Come on Sigma, it's the end of the year!

Canon Unveils New Global Shutter Sensor for Third-Party Use

They seem to sell them mainly for industrial uses. They've been selling a 250 MP APS-H sensor for several years.
Thanks. A number of vendors who sell astro cameras also sell variants of those cameras as industrial cameras, and my sense is that the industrial market is much larger than the astro market, but I don't know for sure.

I'm definitely not in the market for a 250MP sensor . And it's only been the last few years that APS-C and FF sensor astro cameras have become relatively affordable. I have one APS-C camera and one that has a 13 x 8.8 mm sensor. For narrowband imaging, the cost of my filters was more than the cost of my APS-C camera, which is why I didn't go full frame.

Canon and Amazon Win Default Judgment Against Counterfeiters

I was told that by someone I trust who sells on Amazon. So definitely anecdotal. As I said, batteries I buy from B&H, things like memory cards and filters, too.
I buy my things from B&H or Adorama as well.
That probably aligns with my understanding as well then, that co-mingling was ended for a number of product categories. If the person who told you trades in one or more of those, it would have been ended for them even though it's not entirely ended.
