Weather Sealing on Canon Eos R5

Hello, earlier today my camera was slightly dirty so what I did was clean it with some water and pour it over my camera with my weather-sealed lens as well.

Right after I had a thought and wondered if it really was ok to clean it with water slightly.

Everything seems fine and honestly, there seems to be no water damage and I wasn't hosing it down so I came to the conclusion that it was alright, but I just have some slight concerns.

Overall, I don’t see any damage and everything seems to be working fine and the SD cards/rubber gaskets seem fine as well.

This RF-S 22mm f/2 photo looks real to me

Canon-RF-S-22mm-f2-STM-APS-C-lens-768x548.jpg

I just came across this on a different site. My EF-M 22mm is one of my favorite and most used lenses. This photo looks legit to me (although it might just be a mock up), but I still don't think I would get it. Even with the introduction of the R mount APS-C, I will probably be keeping my M50 unless they come out with an actual compact R body to replace the M bodies. While I seem to be one of the few who believed APS-C R was imminent AND that APS-C M still potentially had a place in the lineup, the replacement of EF-M lenses with RF-S equivalents has me wondering if they will actually be fully phasing out M afterall.

But as it stands, the R7 (or even R10) is not compact enough for me to want to get rid of my M50 just yet. They are different cameras that serve different purposes. But I am excited at the prospect of more pancake, walk-around lenses.

AWAKENING | A Short Film shot on the Canon R6

Over the past month I've had the pleasure of going out and capturing a ton of footage and putting it together into this short film. I spent a lot of time waking up at around three in the morning, driving out to Shenandoah National Park, and filming with my Canon EOS R6, but it was time well spent. God revealed the beauty of his creation over those trips and I can't wait to return to the mountains and capture more! Until then, enjoy 'Awakening,' my latest short film!

Has anyone found a strobe that will keep up with high speed continuous shooting?

My R6 will shoot at up to 12 frames per second. I'd like to have a set of studio strobes that will keep up with that shooting speed for at least a full second to capture people in motion.

I have two different strobes that will keep up for eight frames before they start missing shots. In order to get that level of performance I run them at a lower power, typically 1/8. I'm working in a studio so I don't have to overpower the sun.

I have several strobes that only do one or two exposures before they start to skip shots. As you might expect, these are the less expensive units. :)

This kind of performance doesn't seem to be listed by the strobe manufacturers and I can't find any youtube videos that discuss this. I'm hoping someone in this forum has played around with this kind of sequential stroboscopic photography and can offer some hints on what gear worked for them.

Thanks in advance!

Bird discussion of R7

As I was out this morning with my R5 with the RF 100-500mm and RF 2x, I zoomed back to 600mm to catch a heated argument between a Peregrine Falcon and Red Kite. The R7 is total garbage, screamed the Kite, it's useless without a grip as it hurts my little talon. Nonsense, shouted back the Peregrine, at 30 fps, think of how many pigeons in flight I can catch.

Canon is gearing up to finally release a high megapixel camera with 100+ megapixels [CR3]

It has been long rumoured that Canon would develop a high-megapixel camera to the lineup. There have been a lot of reports and wishes for something like a Canon EOS R5s.
Yesterday we posted what to expect from Canon, which lead to some new information about Canon’s plans.
We have been told that Canon is indeed going to release a full-frame RF mount camera with 100+ megapixels some time in the first half of 2023. The announcement could come later in 2022.
The Canon EOS R7 had been rumoured for years, and it has finally been announced, so if you’re in the market for 100+ megapixels, hang tight, you will be taken care of.

Here are some rumoured RF-S lenses that may be coming in the near future.

With the reality that is RF-S lenses, Photo Rumors has posted a list of rumoured upcoming RF-S lenses. Some of them look like they could be using the optical formulas from a few EF-M lenses.
Using the optical designs of EF-M lenses will definitely help keep development costs and time required to bring the lenses to market much more managable than all-new designs.
As the supply chain issues begin to improve, I’d expect to see more RF-S lenses in 2022.
Rumored RF-S Lenses

Canon RF-S 11-55mm f/4-4.5 IS STM (18mm-88mm equivalent)
Canon RF-S 16-55mm f/2.8 IS USM (25mm-88mm equivalent)
Canon RF-S 22mm f/2 STM (35mm equivalent)
Canon RF-S 32mm f/1.4 STM (50mm equivalent)
Canon RF-S 55-250mm f/4.5-7.1 IS STM (88mm – 400mm equivalent)

We have not been able to independtly verify that these lenses are in fact on the horizon. Whenever we do, we’ll let you know.

What’s next from Canon?

As with any camera launch, this time the Canon EOS R7 and Canon EOS R10, the day after has people asking “what’s next?”. We get it, that’s what we’re in the business of.
The information about what’s next is fairly vague, but we think there are some realistic rumors floating around.
The next RF mount camera will be a full-frame model and it won’t be the Canon EOS R1, as we expect that at some point in 2023, even if folks wish it was coming sooner. With Canon still having issues meeting the demand for the Canon EOS R3, I think that expecting new tech from Canon in the near term is unlikely.
We will see a replacement or two for the Canon EOS R...

RF 24-70 peeling film inside the lens

Hey all,
I've been shooting with my RF 24-70 for just over a year. I do a lot of action sports filming on the Canon C70. I noticed that the internal film(not sure how best to describe it) surrounding the front element has began to peel away inside of my lens... Additionally, I'm noticing that this lens does not perform well in the elements. We are out shooting action sports in the desert frequently and I've noticed that there's a decent amount of sand and dirt INSIDE of my lens.
Anyone know if this is covered by warranty or the best way to go about repairing? Additionally, if you can give me an idea on how long I should expect to not have this lens in my possession while it's getting repaired by canon that'd be fantastic.
Cheers,
Dylan

Canon should make a R6C... think about it.

So the Canon R5C is a hit... people love it. Excellent shooter.

I shoot on the C70 and R3, love both of them, and will probably buy the R5c at some point.

But a more compelling camera to me would be like a Canon R6C.

So it would have

- 4k/60
- Oversampled 1080/120
- Same body as the R6, but with a fan.
- Same OS switching.

Price?
Well, I think if they targeted the $3,000 mark it would really affect the market. Probably dip into Panasonic Gh6 territory.

Thoughts?

Is the RF 100mm Macro really a 140mm lens?

I've never had a macro lens with a magnification greater than 1:1 so it occured to me that as the RF macro has a 1:1.4 magnification does this change it's focal length to that more resembling a 135?

Just that I rarely use my 135L because it's such a tailored reach whereby the 100mm focal length is good for portraits and detail shots during a wedding.

TIA!

Any new word on the R1?

I saw a YouTube video the other day that was talking a bit about the coming Canon R1.
It mentioned that Canon might be announcing it in October.

It has grown fairly silent here on the R1...and new news? The projected price on that video was between $5999-$6999.

If that's the case, I'm not doing too bad in my savings for a new Canon.....

Anyway, anyone know or heard anything?

Thanks in advance,

cayenne

Patent: A new optical design for Tilt-Shift lenses

Northlight Images has found a US patent showcasing a new way to design tilt-shift lenses.
Says Northlight Images:
When you tilt a lens there is often some unwanted shift introduced, by dint of the lens design and where the physical axis of tilt runs with respect to it.
It’s why I modified my original TS-E90mm) – the new version, as with the 17/24mm, has the ability to change the shift/tilt axis relationship. However, Canon has looked at correcting.
In the patent, the unwanted shift from tilt is referred to as composition shift (a useful term – I may be using it in future ;-)  )
The tilt function of the new lens designs is given by offsetting a lens element in front of the stop – the shift is offset by an opposite movement on the rear (camera) side of the stop.
We have had RF mount tilt-shift lenses on...

Great Joy EF Mount 1.8 Anamorphic Lens: For Stills, how to do a RAW workflow with de-squeeze of anamorphic image?

Hi all,
I'm looking at this indegogo Lens in EF mount:

Great Joy 50mm 1.8 Anamorphic Lens

It appears I can use this on older Canon Cine cameras with adapter AND on RF mount mirrorless with adapter (just not the one with drop in filters).

Anyway, as I've posted previously I'm slightly obsessed with panoramic aspect ratio images.
I've shooting film because I can shoot pano without having to do multiple images and stitch...helpful when you want to shoot long exposures of water landscapes with ND filters, etc....things you can do with multi-shot and stitch.

I'm going to play with using the anamorphic lenses to shoot stills, and desqueeze into pano. I may play with video a bit too, but believe it or not, I'm looking at this for stills primarily to start with.

My main question is...HOW can I do a RAW workflow with the need to de-squeeze?

I don't know that there is a way in Capture One, my primary RAW stills tool to de-squeeze the image. If I use C1, I think I'd need to start with RAW image in squeezed mode and do my adjustments as best I could and when done, send it to Affinity Photo to de-squeeze it, etc.

I have On1 and I don't think it would desqueeze in there either.

Heck I don't believe Lightroom had de-squeeze or does it these days?

I had one other thought...perhaps use Davinci Resolve or FCPX...those should be able to de-squeeze it...and I know they will work with still images. But...do they treat a file from a canon camera or Leica or a fuji camera as a "raw" image....and allow you do do your adjustments, etc in an analogous RAW workflow like I would do in C1?

Or, does anyone know a de-squeeze tool.....

What if I sent the raw image, for example a Leica, that shoots raw in DNG files. If I sent that to FCPX or Resolve only to de-squeeze, and exported that out as a DNG file...would it still be RAW when it came back into say Capture One and allow me the same breadth of editing power for RAW work as when it came straight out of the camera?

Would it do the same for a Canon file or Fuji RAW file on a Resolve->C1 work flow.

I'm a bit confused how RAW an image stays if it come and goes and DNG files?

Anyway...hoping someone can give me some advice or insight into RAW workflow with an anamorphic still image.

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Settings R3 for team sport

Hi everyone, since a few weeks I am the proud owner of a Canon R3. I really like the camera but as many others am struggling a bit with all the new focus and subject tracking options. I have 2 questions

1. When I have Subject Tracking on and I select my cat for example, I half press the shutter button for it to lock focus and start following the cat. Seems to go well for a second or 5 but then all of a sudden the camera also starts detecting random other objects in the frame for no reason (Like a lamp which isn't even moving). Any ways to keep your focus on the subject you chose?

2. what are more ideal settings for a team sport like volleybal? I can imagine subject tracking works fine on a one player sport like gymnastics. But when there are 10 players in the field, what would be the ideal focus points to set? Eye tracking will certainly be problematic since there are multiple players in the field. Would it be best to just turn subject tracking off all together and start working just in Servo mode like I used to do with the 1Dx III ?
I have a volleybal shoot tomorrow to practice a bit with the camera but would love to read your opinions on best settings to test out.

Thanks!
