5Dmk2 Live view Exposure simulation stops working

Hi,
Probably an old topic but cant find any info.
I have 2 x 5Dmk2's and when i use Live view and with 'Exposure simulation' on (for camranger / ipad remote viewing combo), its ok for a bit then Exposure simulation stops working, no matter what i adjust the live view only show an average light levels.
First i assumed it was a camranger related problem, tried a different camera, same thing happened. So tried it just on camera live view, and happened on both. Starts off ok, then ES doesn't simulate.
Also i thought it might be because of also using a wireless TX in hotshoe for speedlights, so tested without anything in hotshoe, still eventually happened. Im stuck.
Im now assuming its a camera bug?
BTW im always using canon L lenses
Does anyone else have that problem, or have any idea what causes it or how to fox it?

thanks people

Sort of need this working as using in conjunction with camranger and iPad.

Over-lubed zoom ring?

Just got a new 16-35 f/4L (which I owned a few years back) from Amazon and the zoom ring is making an odd sound like they slopped on too much grease in the factory. Like its working out air bubbles or something whenever its turned to zoom. I've used it a little bit and sound still there. Anyone had this before? Don't recall having a lens with this issue previously. Zoom feels smooth just SOUNDS sticky :)

Get closer, with images larger than life, using the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro

The Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro was announced this week, and judging by the preorder numbers, it’s going to be a huge success. I think partially because of the very competitive pricing for this unique Macro lens.
The Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro isn’t scheduled to begin shipping until the end of July, so you have some time to save those pennies and wait impatiently for this lens.
Above is another promotional video from Canon Europe showcasing the features of the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro.

NOMATIC and Photographer Peter McKinnon Launch Latest Collection of Camera Bags on Kickstarter

Disclosure: Canon Rumors will receive a 15% commission on all sales generated by my affiliate link. I am extremely careful about which Kickstarter campaigns get posted after the issues in the past. NOMATIC and Peter MacKinnon are not going to screw anyone.
I ran a poll on Twitter and only 16% of people were against me posting this campaign.

The renowned Toronto-based photographer and filmmaker has once again collaborated with the brand on a smaller, sleeker-sized series of everyday gear essentials.
SANDY, Utah – April 13, 2021 – NOMATIC, known for continuing to innovate products to create the most functional gear, is adding three new products to its signature camera bag series with photography influencer, Peter McKinnon. The brand is launching this new collection on Kickstarter on April 13.

R5 servo / point autofocus help (coming from 5d 4)

Hi, wonder if anyone can help .

the servo tracking isn’t as direct / quick as I am used to working on 5d 4 .
basically I am used to working in single shot small point mode , then press a programmed button to engage servo tracking on that point.
then I recompose or pan the moving subject/ person for the desired shot/ framing .

what I find in the R5 is single point with servo does not track on the frame. Just the distance on that point .
and in servo tracking (face detection) case 1 , it can be a bit jumpy and take few seconds to lock on , if model is not fully front face on .
which is often the case.
I’m a professional lifestyle. Fashion and portrait photographer , so I need to be seamless between single shot and a cf button to engage servo.

ive set up AF-on button to switch between single shot and servo. That works well .
And m-Fn to switch face tracking on off.
and focus point select button with top dial to switch between focus point area mode and tracking mode.

why can’t I just engage servo on single point mode and that point will track ?
that would be the simplest , as I used my 5d 4 .

the face tracking is good , but not as good as the reviews are saying/ showing . Of eyes are not looking to camera , a lot of the time I don’t have models actually looking to camera.
I’ve often got to wave camera around till it gets a basic area to track , then it will refine itself and find and eye .
and if there are 3 or 4 people in the shot -it will lock to the most front facing face , which isn’t always what I need.
as I said I shoot a lot of natural lifestyle and fashion , and Models are often looking of to the distance or at each other .. not the camera.

often I have to jump between same shot but switch focus to product in their hand , then back to face really quickly to get 2 options of the same pose.

but for more static portraits the eye detect works fairly well .

it seems over complicated to me .

I think it should just have , single point , that can be superseded by servo tracking on that point. (By custom button)
And that can then be switched to eye detect at any time . With custom button.
- but single point won’t override to eye detect with my custom button .

any ideas folks?

Prefer EF 70-200 f2.8 Over RF, Am I Crazy?

I'm primarily focused on using the 70-200 for sports, and I feel crazy, but does the throw distance on the RF bother anyone else? Or bother enough to not get it? I rented it, and am surprised at how noticeable it is. And how stiff the zoom is as well as ring dampening. I understand this was all necessary with the new telescoping design, but am shocked its barely a footnote in most reviews. Anyone shooting sports with the RF version and think you get used it?

Patent: Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L USM

I have been reporting for a long while that an RF 35mm f/1.2L USM was coming for the RF mount. Here we have a very detailed patent showing four different optical formulas for such a lens.
The RF 35mm f/1.2L USM is on the known RF lens roadmap, so I think we may see this lens sometime in 2021.

Canon price gouging in UK

Those of us who remember the UK before we were members of the European single market may recall being price gouged by certain companies. Post-Brexit it's beginning to re-emerge and Canon is leading the way. Based on an exchange rate of £1 = 1.15 €, Canon's latest products are 11% higher here than in the EU. Nikon and Sony, in comparison, are less than half of that more expensive. Here are some prices I have gleaned from the official Canon, Nikon and Sony stores in Germany and France compared with the UK.

Canon EOS R5
EU price 4499,99 €
UK £4299.99 = 4945 €
RF 100-500mm
EU price 3099,99 €
UK 2979.99 = 3426 €
RF 800mm
EU price 1049.99 €
UK £999.99 = 1150 €

Nikon Z7II
EU price 3399.00 €
UK £2999 = 3449 €
Nikon Z6II
EU price 2199.00 €
UK £1999 = 2299 €
NIKKOR Z 14-24mm
EU price 2699.00 €
UK £2499 = 2874 €

Sony A1
EU price 7299,00 €
UK £6500 = 7475 €
Sony A7SIII
EU price 4199,00 €
UK £3800 = 4370 €
FE 200-600mm
EU price 2099,00 €
UK £1800 = 2070,00 €

Just noticed new firmware version 1.3.1 for the R5 on Canon site

I happened to click on the support site for the R5 and noticed a new firmware version, v1.3.1, is available as of today. I didn't see any mention of it yet, so thought I would share. Thoughts?

Looks like there is one item that was added to version 1.3.

13. Fixes a phenomenon, in which when shooting with Canon Log 3, if the [View Assist.] setting is set to [On], the image in the viewfinder and on the LCD screen is displayed brighter than it should be.

*Items 1 through 12 apply to Version 1.3.0, whereas Item 13 applies to Version 1.3.1.

Video on RF 100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM, RF 400mm F2.8 L IS USM, and RF 600mm F4 L IS USM

Just ran across this before going to bed... figured I would share it as it's the first place I seen all three new lenses in action (samples included).

Personally, I'm getting excited for the macro now (1/2 of the video was on that, other half was on the zooms). To be honest... the zooms are out of my means (but is sure fun to look at).

EDIT....
@Canon Rumors Guy

Just noticed you posted the Adorama Links on all three lenses, if you want to merge this info with that post... feel free.

Canon nFD 800mm f/5.6 L

Used an R6 with a Novaflex FD to RF adaptor. All
Shot at f/5.6. The horses were shot handheld, which wasn’t easy, the rest on a tripod. Light was better with the horses though, so they turned out a bit better anyway I think. I was a good bit closer to the horses than the alligators...

R5 Firmware 1.3 disables Samyang AF 14mm F2.8 RF

CONFIRMED:

While Samyang lens firmware was updated to Version 3 in November 2020 to enable IBIS on the Canon R5, working well with Canon R5 firmware Version 1.2, the most recent revision of Canon R5 firmware to Version 1.3 released on March 29, 2021 has now disabled all communication protocols between the Samyang AF 14mm F2.8 RF and the Canon R5, making the Samyang lens unusable, with the dreaded F00 aperture and no AF. I'm in touch with Samyang's North American tech rep, and will be confirming the problem with him tomorrow.
